Significance Of Decorating Christmas Tree With Ornaments

You might have asked a million people as to why they decorate the Christmas tree during this festive season. There is a lot of significance behind decorating the Christmas tree and many who believe in myths will surely enjoy this read. There are people all around the world who decorate the Christmas tree every year without stopping to wonder why this has become a tradition after all.

It is said that the legend of the Christmas tree goes back to the seventh century when St. Boniface travelled to northern Germany in order to convert the pagan tribes of the area to Christianity. It was the belief that he used the triangular shape of the fir tree as a teaching aid to explain the holy trinity which is The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. While this is the legend for where Christmas trees hail from, however there is very little actual evidence to support this myth or belief.

The significance of why Christians decorate the Christmas tree goes back a long time ago when people used to decorate the winter trees outside their home which had no leaves on it. People felt that when the leaves fell from the trees, the spirit of the tree abandoned it. This made the people very sad as they felt that without the spirits the tree would no longer survive. It was after this, when people decided to decorate the Christmas tree with ornaments and make it look beautiful to attract the spirits once again. Christians decorated the Christmas tree with bright colours and lights so that it will show life within the tree. This is one of the reasons as to why Christians decorate the Christmas tree.

Another reason which is unknown to many is this - It is believed that the Christmas tree was decorated to attract people to Christmas fairs where merchants sold gifts, food and other items in the days leading up to the grand day of Christmas. This was one way of attracting people to unite on the beautiful day.

One the other hand, it is said that the Christmas tree is decorated with symbols/ornaments which have a spiritual meaning behind it. Here are some of the ornaments which need to be decked on the Christmas tree. Take a look:
