Special Sambar
 
Ingredients
 
Tur Dhal - 1/4 cup
 
Brinjal - 1
 
Drumstick - 1
 
Shallot (Small Onion) - 10
 
Tomato - 1
 
Green Chillies - 2
 
Salt - As required
 
Tamarind - In the size of small lemon
 
 
 
Masala (Set 2):
 
Roasted gram a.k.a FRIED CHANNA DAL - 2 spoon
 
Tomato - 1
 
Coconut - 1 spoon
 
Sambar powder - 4 spoons
 
 
 
For Seasoning:
 
Mustard seeds - 1/4 spoon
 
Cumin seeds - 1/4 spoon
 
Black gram - 1/4 spoons
 
Cayenne pepper (Vatral Milagaai) - 1
 
Asafetida - little
 
Curry leaves, coriander leaves - as required
 
 
 
1. Cook Tur dal
 
2. Cut vegetables into small pieces
 
3. Remove skin from Onions
 
4. Add cooked Tur dal, 4 cup water, cut vegetables, green chillies, tomato, half the amount of onions and salt and allow them to cook
 
5. Grind 'set 2' using mixie.
 
6. Mix the above grinded mixture with 'tamarind dissolved water' (Puli Karaichal)
 
7. Add it to the boiling Sambar
 
8. After the vegetables get cooked. Check salt and remove it from stove.
 
9. Now pour oil in a Kadai for seasoning.
 
10. Add mustard seeds, Cumin seeds, Black gram.
 
11. Then add asafoetida, cayenne pepper, Curry leaves and remaining onions.
 
12. Once they get cooked properly, pour Sambar into the kadai. Remove after it boils.
 
13. Garnish with Coriander leaves.
