Hair Care Tips

Brush your hair regularly before going to bed each night.

Wash your hair with a mild shampoo. Use very little but enough to cover hair completely with lather. Use a conditioner  to keep hair manageable.

Avoid brushing wet hair. This will cause the hair to stretch and finally break. Finger-dry, or use a wide-toothed comb instead of a brush to gently remove the knots.

Restrict blow-drying your hair. The process of blow-drying is harsh on hair as it robs it of moisture.

Avoid dyes. Use mehandi (henna) instead as a conditioner and colouring agent.

Take a calcium supplement or drink two glasses of milk a day.

Always hold hair dryer away from your hair. Direct air from the hair dryer down hair shaft and not directly into the roots and keep it moving.

After a perm, never brush your hair. Instead comb hair gently.

Trim your hair once in 7 weeks to avoid split ends.

Avoid pulling back your hair tightly.

Never use a rubber band on your hair as it can pull and damage hair considerably.

Never go out in the sun without having your head covered.

Stimulate circulation by massaging your head with oil to which some vitamin E has been added. This will make hair soft and silky.

Never wash your hair with very hot or very cold water.

Learn to relax. Hair loss can happen because of stress. Eat foods that are rich in vitamin B, C and E.

Add iron and minerals in the natural form in your diet.

If your hair is oily, cut down on fried food and fat. Drink plenty of water.

Obviously, cleansing and washing the hair is done to beat the dirt and oil out of your hair that tends to build up after a day or two. It is suggested to keep your scalp clean as a grimy scalp gives open invitation to the invasion of bacteria that turn your scalp into a breeding ground thereby causing numerous hair and scalp infections.

After meticulous cleansing of your manes, get started with the toning process. The toning procedure involves gentle massage of head and scalp which supports proper blood circulation throughout the scalp. This is often considered as an exercise for scalp, which when proceeded regularly rejuvenates the hair growth. The grand finale is in the form of conditioning; conditioning expands over applying hair conditioner which reinstates moisture to even the roughest curls.

Trimming your hair every six weeks helps you get rid of brittle ends and keeps the hair shiny and bouncy .

Sparkling Eyes

Your eyes are the windows to your soul. And healthy, sparkling eyes are the sign of a well-adjusted, happy, human being. Needless to say that this is a very attractive quality as well as a sign of true beauty. Something that every person aims for.

Now how does one go about achieving this It’s quite simple really. One must try to remain calm and relaxed in the most adverse circumstances. Life does not always go the way we want, but always works out best in the long run. If we are accepting and content with our lot then our path automatically smoothens out. But this is the way to true inner beauty. Let’s see how we can handle these windows to our soul externally.

The easiest way is through make-up. You can always emphasize or intensify the shape and colour of your eyes with the help of a kohl pencil, eyeliners and eye shadows. But the best way to maintain that inner sparkle is to take care of your health. Avoid long hours and do not overstrain your eyes.

How Should We Avoid Eye-Strain

One of the most common causes of eyestrain is inadequate lighting while reading or even doing housework, like cleaning, mending or sewing. This causes a weary, dull feeling that can simply be avoided by proper lighting.

Another common fault is the angle at which you tend to hold a paper or book while reading. People generally tend to hold it too close to their eyes and strain them in the process. The correct method is to hold the book about ten inches away from your face. i.e. neither too close nor too far. The same goes for watching television or when using the computer.

Lastly, if none of the above tips seem to help, then you must consult an optician to check your number. Do not worry as you can go in for contact lenses. In any case, nowadays spectacles have become a wonderful accessory. If you already have spectacles, then make sure you get your eyes tested every two years or so in order to keep a check on your number.

Simple Home Remedies For Tired Eyes

1. To soothe tired eyes, dip cotton pads in chilled milk and place on closed eyes for 10 minutes. Now relax completely.

2. Alternatively, you can place slices of cucumber or grated cucumber on closed eyelids for about 10 minutes and relax completely.

3. To completely relax the eyes and the surrounding muscles, close your eyes and think of something that is pleasant or soothing and at a distance. Now gently open your eyes and look into the distance. Next focus on an object at arm’s length. Do this extremely relaxing exercise four to five times a day.

Make Your Eyes Sparkle

Soak 1 tsp. dry amla in one cup of water overnight. Next morning strain it through a muslin cloth and then add one extra cup of water. Splash your eyes with this solution each morning and watch your eyes sparkle.

Problems With Puffy Eyes

All you need to do is grate a potato with its peel and apply on your closed eyelids for about 20 minutes and relax completely. You may even take a nap. You will wake up feeling extremely fresh.

Tips For Dark Circles

1. Apply cucumber juice below your eyes every night just before going to bed.
2. Mix the pulp of a quarter tomato, turmeric powder, lemon juice and gramflour (besan). Apply this mixture on your dark circles and wash off once it dries.

Long Hair Care Tips

Taking care of your long tresses can take more time as compared to the short hair or tresses with normal length. Additionally washing, conditioning and drying long hair is a Herculean task in itself. So, here are some tips on how you can manage your long hair:

* Try not to sleep in tightly braided manes or in tight ponytail, as this can result in hair loss or hair breakage.

* Always ensure that your hair is not braided tightly as it may also result in hair fall.

* Use soft and specially treated hair-bands that act softly on your scalp, which will prevent hair fall. Also avoid using side-clips and bows.

* If you like your black long hair to grow further, always maintain your hair by trimming your hair once every 3 months. In case you don’t go for it, tresses may end up brittle ends and cause them to break off and your hair begin to loose their natural shine and beauty.

* Utilizing hairbrushes is not good as using brush to detangle your hair makes tresses stretch which further make them break. However, you can use your fingers or wide toothcomb to help you detangle your manes for you.

* Act gently on detangling, pulling down your hair as being harsh on them, may cause breakage as well.

* Detangle your hair before going for a hair wash as this helps your hair dry and style easily after washing as this decreases the knots and tangles.

* Avoid rubbing your hair with towel for drying your hair; instead blot the water out of your hair.

* Brushing your hair is very important as it spread the hair oil across the length of your hair and so it is advisable to go for long strokes from roots to the tips.

Hair Conditioner

Stop being jealous of those gorgeous locks you’re always seeing in hair commercials! You can have hair just like them. The secret is choosing a conditioner that’s made for your specific type of hair. Check out these conditioning tips here and get the hair you’ve been waiting for!

Do you want that vibrant, glossy hair that’s in every hair commercial? It’s all about the conditioner you choose. Sure, shampoo starts the process by cleansing and nourishing your hair, but even clean hair can appear dry and damaged if you don’t use conditioner. If you’ve ever washed your hair without conditioning it, you probably realized that already. Conditioner softens and smoothes, moisturizes and shines, untangles and protects hair from damage. It’s essentially the key to perfect hair!

Choosing the right conditioner. It’s true that all conditioners will, well, condition your hair, but they’re not created equal. You must use the type of conditioner that is right for your hair type and texture — and use it correctly. Otherwise you may still be unhappy with the way your hair looks.

Conditioners for oily hair. You may want to just skip conditioning your hair if it’s super-oily — and you can — but don’t forget about some of the great benefits of a good conditioner, like protecting your hair, giving it more shine, and smoothing it out so it doesn’t tangle as much. Instead of skipping it, try a conditioner with light moisturizing action. Also, be extra careful not to condition your scalp — that’s where the sebum (what you think of as oil) is secreted, so there’s plenty of moisture there already. Instead, start to apply conditioner about midway through your hair and work down towards the ends.

Another option is a spray conditioner — a conditioner that you apply to hair that is dry by spraying it as needed. You can buy ready-made spray conditioners or create your own spray conditioner by mixing a bit of regular conditioner (about a tablespoon) with water in a spray bottle.
What to look for:

1.Tea tree oil — it absorbs some of the grease, so your hair will still retain that bounce, not be weighed down by excess oil.Conditioners for dry hair. If your hair is dry, remember this never-fail conditioning rule: you MUST use conditioner every time you shampoo your hair. In fact, you can use conditioner even when you don’t shampoo. That is, because your hair is dry, you should not wash it every day — the cleaning agents in shampoos will take a toll and dry it out even more. Instead, on non-shampoo days, rinse your hair in warm water and then condition it. The conditioner will restore softness without the extra dose of detergents from another shampoo. The best conditioners for dry hair are thick and creamy conditioners — the drier your hair, the more moisturizing your conditioner needs to be. Stay away from clear conditioners which are harsher on the hair. You may also want to use a leave-in conditioner, which keeps conditioning your hair even after your shower — protecting it from damage from the sun and other elements and also reducing tangles. But if you use hair care products like gel, mousse, or pomades, skip the leave-in conditioner since these products will accomplish all that for you. When applying conditioner, give extra attention to the tips of your hair — they’re the oldest part of your hair and have been exposed to the elements the longest, so they’re likely to be the most damaged part of your hair as well. You should also apply a deep conditioning treatment once a week to really hydrate your hair and correct any damage that may occur that week. You can purchase a product designed for deep conditioning or simply apply regular conditioner to your hair, cover with a shower cap, and allow it to sit for at least 30 minutes.Ingredients to look for:

2.Natural oils, especially olive oil and jojoba oil — they restore moisture to your hair and keep it looking glossy and beautiful.Don’t overcondition! You can have too much of a good thing. If you use too much conditioner, your hair will feel greasy and weighed down, not light and bouncy, and may not hold a style. How much is too much? It depends on the length of your hair. Short-haired women can usually get away with a teaspoon-sized squirt of conditioner. Long-haired ladies need about a tablespoon’s worth. Start with less; you can always add more conditioner if necessary.Conditioning Your Hair the Right Way
Regardless of your hair type, follow these steps to ensure you’re making the most of your conditioner:

- Start shampooing according to the directions on the bottle. Wring hair gently to remove excess water; this helps the conditioner penetrate your hair.

- Squirt the appropriate amount of conditioner (see above) into your hand and rub to form a lather. Unlike shampoo, which is applied to the scalp, rub condition into the length of your hair, trying to avoid your scalp. If you have very long hair, it might be easier to pull it into a ponytail for conditioning your hair.

- Allow the conditioner to set for at least a few seconds. If your hair tends to be dry, leave it on for at least 30 seconds.

- Rinse hair with warm water to remove the conditioner.

- Towel-dry your hair gently before styling. Do not rub your hair with a towel or it may cause the hairs to break or split.

By choosing the right conditioner and using it correctly, perfect, glossy hair is just a shower away!

Nail Care

Beautiful, natural nails require care and proper manicuring. A shortish nail that is straight across the top with rounded edges is the current in style shape. Here are nail care tips for polishing your nails so they will look beautiful and stay looking fresh longer.

Filing Nails:
File nails when the white part of the nail tip has grown 1/4″ from the pink part of the nail. Filing nails before the nail is 1/4″ long can weaken the nail. Allowing the nail to grow to a length longer than the base pink nail length will be sure to make them break easily. Nail files from side to side would weaken nails. When filing, go from the corner to the center in one direction. Follow the groove on the side of your nail.

Buffing Nails:
Buffing nails can give them a shinier finish. Start at the cuticle and work your way down to the tip with medium pressure. Don’t use a back and forth movement as heat builds up and this can damage your nails. Continue lightly until all ridges on the nail surface have disappeared.

Clean Nails:
Be sure that nails are clean and dry, free of any oil or lotion, before applying polish. Remove any old polish from nails.

Base Coat:
Always use a Base Coat and let it dry for at least 1 minute. The Base Coat helps to keep nail polish from chipping and makes polish last longer.

Applying Polish:
Apply two coats of polish. You should be able to cover the nail in three stokes, one on each side and then one in the middle.

Drying Time:
Always allow your polish to dry thoroughly for several minutes before you apply the next coat. This will avoid the new coat from dragging on the surface of the previous coat and allow the next layer adhere better. Darker shades take longer to dry. Avoid fast drying polish. It does not last as long.
