Once in a while throughout life, every person feels emptiness. It’s an inevitable, yet very uncomfortable feeling, which can torment us a lot. There’s a number of reasons why you can experience emptiness in your life, the key ones being the following:
1. You don’t have enough time for yourself, your soul, and your needs.
2. You don’t do things that you really enjoy.
3. You spend time with people who don’t belong in your life.
The good news is that emptiness is an important marker of your necessity to change your lifestyle, thoughts, and attitudes because you’ve outgrown yourself. You just need to get rid of what’s bothering you and renovate.
Many psychologists think that a man or a woman who suffers emptiness should address a counselor. However, if you don’t have such opportunity now, there’s a number of practices that will help to tackle it. Here’s what psychologist Ashley Eder advises:
1. Find time to explore your inner world.
There are so many tasks we need to do on a daily basis that we neglect ourselves. What do you feel? What do you want? Who are you? Writing or drawing is really helpful. You can make audio or video records as well.
2. Acknowledge the feelings.
Some people might repress emptiness because they don’t consider themselves entitled to experiencing it or think it’s wrong. This feeling is absolutely normal and if you accept it, you’ll become less anxious about it.
3. Care about yourself and your needs.
Emptiness is most scared of love. Hug yourself. Tell what a great person you are. Say that you love and care about yourself. Make yourself a small present: a book, a horse ride, a trip to a place where you wanted to go — whatever makes you happy!
Remember, you are unique! You are beautiful and you deserve to be loved in every possible way, and above all — by yourself.
