UV exposure can be very damaging to the skin, since it aids the development of premature aging, melanoma, and other types of skin cancer.

The skin phototype is the group of physical or racial characteristics, which determines if the skin of a person burns, tans, or “becomes red” when exposed to the sun’s rays. By being aware of this, it will tell us what kind of protection we need to use.

With this test, you’ll find out what kind of skin phototype you have and discover what precautions you must take to protect yourself from the sun rays (you will need a pen and paper).

Now that you know your skin phototype, it’s best for you to care for your skin with more than just sunscreen. Here are some recommendations:

1)Clothing: long sleeves, no low necklines or light colors.

2)Curtains on windows.

3)Sunscreen should be applied to the whole body, not just the face.

4)Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before going outside. This should be done EVERY DAY. It doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy. Do this, especially if your skin photoype is I or II.

5)If you’re at the beach, reapply sunscreen every 2 to 3 hours.

6)For babies under 6 months of age, avoid using sunscreen. The best thing for them is to completely avoid prolonged exposure to the sun rays.
