We’re in front of the mirror in the morning to get ready. When we apply our makeup, everything seems perfect. However, as soon as we head out into the street and feel the heat, everything starts melting. It’s hard to wear makeup in summer, since our cosmetics can suffer the consequences. Yet, there are still ways to keep yourself looking fresh. Professional makeup artist Maria Solans reveals some tips on how to get your makeup to last, even on the hottest days.

1. Moisturize the skin

It’s hard to apply makeup with sweat on the face, since the makeup can start melting before you know it. That’s why it’s important to apply hydrating cream or a pre-base, which moisturizes the skin and minimizes the appearance of pores. This is especially important if you have mixed or oily skin.

2. Choose the right texture

If your skin is oily, choose cream bases because they will last longer. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, you should opt for hydrating liquid bases to avoid cracking.

3. Less is more

When the temperature rises, it’s best to choose light bases that help even out the tone without being heavy. Another summer option is bronzing powder, which can give a light golden touch to the skin.

4. Seal the makeup

It’s vitally important to seal the makeup base with loose, translucent powder. They shouldn’t cover the face, but leave it free of shine. You can also spray a little thermal water before and after applying the base for it to stay better.

5. Appropriate products for the eyes

Eyelashes protect the eyes from sweat and residue, so it’s best to use waterproof mascara and cream-based eye shadow. They’re easier to apply, and you’ll have a more long-lasting result and will look fabulous.

6. Retouch correctly

Applying layers of powder will only make you feel uncomfortable and contaminate your sponges and brushes with sweat. It’s best to always carry absorbent towels, since these won’t remove makeup, but will absorb sweat and oil.

7. Illuminate the skin

If your skin is already a little tan, you don’t need to apply a base to even out the tone. Just use a good lipstick on previously hydrated lips to look made up. You can also use a contour to lighten up your skin in key areas: cheekbones, lacrimal, and nose.

With these simple tricks, you’ll look fresh, natural, and stylish this summer. Have fun and don’t worry about how long your makeup will last.
