Today many people care about the way they look. Everybody wants to be in a good shape, so you eat healthy food, train hard, and avoid bad habits. Then you decide to make a little break, just for a day or two and discover a terrible truth, you gain a few pounds. So, you start pondering “What do I do wrong? Why I still have a few extra pounds?”

If you don’t know what it is, here is a simple explanation. If you gain a few pounds just in a day, it is not because you gain fat. Fat needs more time to accumulate. It is a long-lasting process which requires weeks and even months. That is why you cannot gain extra pounds because of fat. The reason is glycogen, which contains primarily of water.

When you lose your weight quickly, you also lose glycogen stores. So your liver and muscle need to replace the shortage of water and they hold onto any bit of glucose consumed and its accompanying water. This way you gain a few extra pounds in a day, which in fact is your water weight. To avoid such situation Tara recommends following these rules.

Intermittent Fasting

Our body produces growth hormone which is a perfect fat burner. When you become older, this hormone develops slower. That’s why many people who look good when they were young, gain extra weight in adulthood. To increase the amount of growth hormone you need to prolong the time between meals. It is better not to eat late at night because our body requires at least 12–16 hours to produce the hormone.

Workouts

Hard workouts can be a reason for water retention. If you think you gain water weight, decrease the intensity of the exercises, but don’t stop doing them because exercises stimulate blood flow.

More Water

It may sound weird, but water weight can be a result of water lack in your body. That’s why your organism tries to store as much water as possible. If you drink enough of water, there is no such necessity. Experts recommend drinking at least 2 liters of water a day. Keep in mind, you should drink 2 liters of water, not beverages, juice or other soda drinks.

No Salt

Salt retains water in your body. The more salt you eat, the less water weight you lose.

Fruits and Vegetables

Try to eat less food which contains simple carbs and replace it with fresh fruits and vegetables.
