Where Do You Think You Can Find Happiness? Science Have An Answer For You!

We, human beings, are always looking for something that we call “happiness.” Over time, the evolution of technology and new discoveries in medicine have increased people’s life expectancy and quality. According to the Maslow’s theory, as the human attends its basic needs, he climbs up the pyramid looking for an almost spiritual evolution.
And if you think happiness is to have a quiet, full and relaxed life, science has shocking news for you!
As reported by scientists, true happiness lasts much longer than a brief dose of dopamine, so it should not be classified as a “simple” emotion. Each person has its own “happiness point” defined by genetics and personality. The sense of happiness includes cognitive reflections, but a large part of it is the product of a mental calculation, of how you compute your expectations and acceptance of what you cannot change among other factors.
Basically, happiness is a state of mind and can be intentional and strategic.
Recent studies point out that activities that cause uncertainty, discomfort and even guilt are associated with memorable experiences of happiness. Happiness can come in unexpected ways, and this is scientifically proven!
So, what do you have to keep in mind to be happy?
1. Take risks
Venture beyond your limits. When you go to that restaurant you love, try a different dish, or try to go to a different restaurant. Explore the unknown. Be curious. Do not be afraid of the complicated, of the uncertainty, even if this might be exhausting.
Studies conducted by Kashdan and Steger suggest that curious people invest in activities that cause them discomfort as this is a stepping stone to higher psychological states. This is not easy to achieve, but is the way to become wiser and stronger against negative feelings.
2. Do not be so nitpicky
Protect yourself from getting worn out by small details. Although, at the same time, be careful not to be so detached. Psychologist Joseph Forgas’ studies show that positive people are less skeptical, less critical and more receptive to strangers than other people. This certainly makes them more susceptible to lies, but do not worry too much about your performance — it is okay if you are not the best at what you do.
3. Be happy for the others
Really celebrate your friends’ achievements — this will make you happy as well! According to a recent poll by Gallup World Poll, the best index for happiness at work was whether the person had a best friend to talk about it, someone who would be willing to cheer you up and vice versa. The support of others alleviates life difficulties. This is even true for couples as data from psychologist Shelly Gable indicate that romantic partners who are unhappy about their relationships often break up.
4. Accept negative feelings
Pretending not to be upset will not make it better. Being open can help you become more flexible. According to a study by George Bonanno, a psychologist at Columbia University, people who had better accepted their anger and negative emotions after 9/11 were able to recover faster than the others. Life is not easy, and you just have to learn how to deal with your emotions in an honest way.
5. Do not waste time with momentary bliss
Stay focused on your goals. Do not waste time in a long bath, with a bar of chocolate, or watching TV. According to studies conducted by Michael Teger and his Colorado State University colleagues, happier people tend to sacrifice short-term pleasures when there is a good opportunity to progress toward what they want. This does not mean that you should avoid everything that is not related to your goal; you just do not have to do it all the time. Combine what you like the most with your goals.
Did you imagine that you could be happy like this? How about sharing this post with your friends and trying out these tips recommended by the science of happiness?
