'Theri' gets a rousing welcome in Kerala!

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Theri, directed by Atlee, has opened to a spectacular welcome in Kerala (See pic). The film has reportedly been released in more than 200 screens and the shows have started as early as 2 am in the morning in some centres. The film took 98 percent opening the highest for any Tamil film so far in the state.

 

The first half of the film happens in Kerala (Though the portions were shot in Goa and matched as Kerala) and almost all characters speak Malayalam (with Tamil subtitles).

The distribution rights of Theri in Kerala has been bought by Friday Film House in association with Carnival Cinemas for a record price of Rs. 5.6 crores.

“We have been receiving fabulous reports from all the release centres and today’s collection is expected to be a record in Kerala for a non-Malayalam film,” says Sandra Thomas of Friday Film House.

Theri:A new record for non-Rajini Tamil films in USA

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Theri  has created a new record for non-Rajini Tamil films in USA. The premiere collection for the film in North America and Canada is $251k (approx 1.5cr). Till now among Tamil films, only Rajinikanth’s Endhiran and Lingaa have crossed 250k$ mark in the premiere opening.

Interesting fact is that Theri has surpassed the life time US box office collection of Vijay’s previous film Puli with its premiere opening itself.

Also, early estimates from Tamil Nadu trade indicate that Theri is the best day one opening in Ilayathalapathy’s career and if Chengalpattu theaters have screened the film with early morning shows, the film would have created a new record

Humongous opening for 'Theri' in TN

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Theri has taken a humongous opening and has created new record in many territories.

In Tamil Nadu, the film has approximately grossed 13.5 cr on its first day and it is career best opening for Vijay. Apparently, Theri wasn’t screened in nearly 60 theaters in Chengalpattu but still the opening was phenomenal.

“#Theri - Thursday, April 14- TN Net (Tax Free) without taking #Chengalpet - Rs 13.5 Cr (Approximate) - Superb, #Vijay's highest day 1”, posted senior Tamil trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai.

In Kerala, Theri has surpassed Shankar’s ‘I’ by grossing 3.3cr and the film has registered the biggest opening ever in Mollywood. In USA, Theri has become unstoppable that the film has grossed half a million dollar mark and trade pundits predict that it will easily cross one million, which has been achieved only by Shankar, Rajini and  Kamal Haasan.

Not only USA, Theri has taken a tremendous opening in key overseas markets as well. “Going through the international data and I must say, Tamil film #Theri has taken a SUPERB start in key international markets”, wrote trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Twitter.

'Theri' surpasses Akshay Kumar’s 'Airlift' opening business in Australia

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Theri is doing massive business in overseas market. In North America (US and Canada), the film has grossed 900k $ (5.99 cr) and all set to touch the magical one million mark.

Also, in USA the film has surpassed the life time collection of Vijay’s previous best Kaththi by grossing 632k$.

Till now, only Rajinikanth, Kamal, Mani Ratnam and Shankar movies have grossed one million in North America territory and with Theri, Ilayathalapathy is going to join the prestigious league.

Theri’s Australia box office performance has surprised everyone as the film has surpassed Akshay Kumar’s Airlift’s opening business. As usual, Theri is super strong in Vijay’s fort, United Kingdom and France, where large number of Sri Lankan Tamil audiences are ardent fans of the actor.

In UK, Theri has grossed 1.96 cr till Saturday and in USA, the film has grossed 1.32 cr. In Chennai city, Theri has grossed more than 3 cr in its first four days while TN, Kerala and Karnataka numbers will be updated soon.

Vijay celebrates 'Theri' success with team

Theri success party was held recently and most of the members from the team including Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Atlee,  Thanu, Mahendran, Rajendran, Nainika, Meena and Kaali Venkat  attended it.

“It was a simple private party and outsiders weren't invited. The whole team had a good time and they are happy as the film is doing well at the box office”, says our source.

Apparently, the film’s director Atlee is planning to meet the media today and convey his thanks for the extraordinary support. Trade sources say that the film is holding well in India and smashing records in overseas.

In UK, Theri has officially surpassed the opening weekend collection of Superstar Rajinikanth’s Endhiran.

'Theri' joins the 100 crore club

Thanu’s V creations have officially announced that his film Theri starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay has successfully grossed 100cr within six days and has also unveiled a special poster on their official Twitter handle. The film’s director Atlee, music composer GV Prakash and Vijay’s official Twitter handle too shared the poster and have confirmed the news.

Earlier, Vijay’s Thuppakki and Kaththi too have grossed 100crs worldwide and Theri is the third film of the actor to touch the magical figure.  One more exciting report for Vijay fans is that Theri has also grossed more than one MILLION in North America and Canada, which is a remarkable achievement.

Meanwhile, second schedule of Vijay’s new film with director Bharathan will commence from May 2nd. To be produced by Vijaya Productions, the yet –untitled film has Keerthy Suresh, Jagapathi Babu, Daniel Balaji and Sathish in important roles.
