'Thozha' audio review

Cast: Karthi, Nagarjuna, Tamannaah
Music: Gopi Sundar
Direction: Vamsi Paidipalli

Baby Odathey
Singers: Shankar Mahadevan
‘Baby Odathey’ is very fresh and the jazzy arrangements make this track the pick of the album! The sweet tenors play it well along with the chords. There’s a quirky undercurrent throughout the entire track. Quirky is the word!

Door Number
Singers: Geetha Madhuri
The contemporary kuthu song in the album! ‘Door Number’ is aimed at the masses and is a typical run off the mill number with a tune that is as old as the hills. Not this time please!

Eiffel Mele
Singers: Ranjith, Suchitra
Weirdly enough, ‘Eiffel Mele’ is in the ‘Gopala Gopala’, ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ mould when it comes to the background arrangements which are earthy but foot tapping at the same time. One of the better tracks of the album which has an essence to become a chartbuster! Suchitra – Welcome back!

Nagarum
Singers: Karthik
‘Nagarum’ is a harmless, easy on the ears peppy track which has a fair usage of string section in the background. Karthik shoulders this number where the composer delivers a simple rhythmic tune backed by just violins & guitar strumming in the interludes.

Enadhuyire
Singers: Vijay Prakash
‘Enadhuyire’ starts off way too slowly to make an impact. The mild arrangements add to the soothing factor. Vijay Prakash chips in with his signature styled rendition which goes well with the background chords. A short, calming track!

Thozhaa
Singers: Anirudh, Haricharan
‘Thozhaa follows a ‘Bryan Adams-esque’ structure accompanied by pulsating background arrangements. Anirudh who has rendered the vocals has adhered to the ‘rock’ needs of the track as the tune is set in such a genre. In all probabilities, it would be playing out as a montage in the movie.

Pudhidhaa
Singers: Karthik
The main highlight of this song is the organic fusion of instruments allowing the vocals to have a ball. Interludes with sharp saxophones, bagpipes, clarinets kick in to stir up the tune even more. ‘Pudhidhaa’ has a good acoustic scope and the chorus, lyrics all contribute in keeping up this melody’s appeal.

On the whole, Gopi Sunder dishes us an all-round album which has an amalgamation of styles for both Tamil(Eiffel Mele) and Telugu(Door Number) listeners (although the heart of the album sounds like a Malayalam’esque soundtrack with those soothing melodies). Most of the songs are pleasant and easy on the ears which would probably aid the movie’s narrative as a pelican cross.

Five reasons why you should watch Thozha

Karthi and Nagarjuna’s Thozha is all set for a grand release on March 25, Holi and Easter weekend. We lists out five reasons to watch the film on big screen…

Classic remake

Thozha’s original version, ‘The Intouchables’ is a classic that deals about the beautiful bonding between a quadriplegic billionaire and a caretaker, who comes from the bottom of the society.

If Vamshi Paidipally has adapted ‘The Intouchables’ by retaining the essence, Thozha is sure to be a unique feel-good ride for family audiences.

Nagarjuna’s comeback

Telugu Superstar Nagarjuna has rarely acted in straight Tamil films. But whenever he did, he has given us unique movie watching experience. One can hope that Thozha will also be a quality film with phenomenal performance from Nagarjuna.

Karthi-Tamannaah pair

Karthi and Tamannaah is known as lucky pair that they have two given super hits, Paiyaa and Siruthai. In Thozha, Karthi plays the role of a care taker while Tamannaah will be seen as the secretary to Nagarjuna and already, their adorable chemistry is well evident in the theatrical trailer.

PS Vinod’s visuals

After Aaranya Kaandam and David, splendid cinematographer PS Vinod is making his comeback with Thozha in Kollywood.

In the theatrical trailer, Vinod’s crystal clear visuals with grandeur written all over were the major attraction.

PVP Cinema

PVP Cinema has always given outstanding films in Kollywood and they are known for high production values. For Thozha, they have spent lavishly by shooting in the most expensive places in Europe and France.

Right from Nagarjuna’s wheel chair to the cars used in the film, everything is extravagant. Look forward to watch the breezy feel good ride on this Friday.

Thozha Review

Director: Vamshi Paidipally
Cast: Nagarjuna, Karthi, Tamannaah, Prakash Raj

When was the last time we saw a Tamil film with chirpy characters infusing positivity throughout and make us laugh and cry till we leave leave the movie hall with moist eyes?

Director Vamshi has given us the best possible adaptation of French classic  'The Intouchables' with flavors that suit the taste of our audiences. The biggest strength of the film is the endearing bromance (or call it chemistry?) between the spontaneous Karthi and a dignified Nagarjuna.

The colorful visuals, jaw dropping locations and the alluring Tamannaah add bonus points to this charming ride for which we are sold out the moment, a lovely bond is established between Karthi and Nagarjuna.

Seenu ( Karthi) is a carefree youngster, who is just released on parole and his mother (Jayasudha) and siblings hate him. For Seenu, money is everything and he thinks that rich people are the luckiest on the earth. We also have Vikram (Nagarjuna), a quadriplegic billionaire who was paralyzed from the neck down in a para-gliding accident. Vikram is under enormous stress, which he doesn't tell anyone and hates being seen with sympathy.

Seenu is appointed as Vikram's caretaker much to the surprise of his smart secretary (Tamannaah) and best friend (Prakash Raj).  The rest of the film says how Seenu and Vikram help out each other in making their lives better and life is all about enjoying the moment.

The film beautifully portrays the fact that each and every one in the world has problems but if they get someone, who can show unconditional love, they are blessed.

Thozha is easily one of the finest performances from Karthi, he steals the show with a pich-perfect performance. His comic one liners and sparkling screen presence are a major plus. What a spontaneous actor he is?Nagarjuna has made use of all his expertise in the film that he shines with his subtle expressions and the effort he has put in to dub his own lines too definitely deserve an applause.

Tamannaah has very little in terms of performance but she looks good, and is there throughout.  The actress has pulled it off with great élan. The rest of the actors including Prakash Raj, Kalpana, Vivek and the brief cameos of Anushka and Shriya too helped in the seamless flow of the movie.

PS Vinod's scintillating visuals are a big plus, especially the France portions are a visual extravaganza. Praveen KL's editing is flawless that he hasn't used any jump cuts to speed up the flow and allowed the characters to settle in, which has certainly helped in conveying the core feel of the movie.

The biggest worry of Thozha is the length but with so many positive factors around, we can ignore it. Overall, here is a a breezy feel good ride, which shouldn't be missed! One of the best, seen in a long time.

Karthi:Appreciations pouring in for 'Thozha'

The thanksgiving meet of PVP Cinema’s Thozha has happened at Prasad Labs, Chennai.

Speaking at the event, Karthi said : “ I've got more hugs and appreciations from media friends for my performance in Thozha, similar acknowledgement has only happened during my first film, Paruthiveeran”.

The actor also said that the biggest of all appreciations is from his mother, as she liked his performance as a happy-go-lucky guy. “Thozha was a self realization for me to understand the values of life. We all are working hard to meet our financial needs and completely missing the beauty of life. I've felt bad for not spending time with my daughter as she would have fallen asleep whenever I return back to home”, added Karthi.

Telugu Superstar Nagarjuna has said that the success of Thozha has increased his confidence level and he will be working hard to act in more such quality films. “I've been in the industry for thirty years and there were times, when I lose interest. But Thozha has renewed my energy levels, thanks to Karthi and I'm sure that my next film will as good as this one”, said Nagarjuna.

Thozha director Vamshi revealed that the legendary director Mahendran has called him after seeing the film and he would fall on his feet for all those kind words.

Vamshi also thanked Raju Murugan and Murugesh Babu for their wonderful dialogues.
