Moving Statues Of A Man And Woman Passing Through Each Other Every Day

This is The Statue of Love sculpture inspired by love story of Ali and Nino.

The story was written by Azerbaijani author published under the pseudonym name Kurban Said, and tells the story of a romantic affair between a Muslim boy, Ali, and Georgian princess, Nino. They faced many struggles in their way due to their different cultural and religious backgrounds.

The synopsis on Amazon reads: "Ali and Nino, two lovers from vastly different backgrounds, grow up together in carefree innocence in Baku on the Caspian Sea. Here, where Eastern and Occidental collide, they are inevitably drawn into the events of the First World War and the Russian Revolution. Torn apart by the turmoil, Ali joins the defense of Azerbajan from the onslaught of the Red Army, and Nino flees to the safety of Paris with their child, not knowing whether they will ever see each other again."

The book was first published in 1937 and has since been translated into 37 languages and turned into a movie. But this kinetic structure in Batumi, Georgia pays homage to one of the most romantic epic novels of all time.

Created by Georgian artist Tamar Kvesitadze, both statues move and change their position every 10 minutes, until they become one... and passes through each other. The 7 ton statues start their motion at 7pm every day and are controlled by computer and lit with dramatic color lighting.
