It’s a proud moment to all the Tamils when a fellow Tamil succeed to become the CEO of the most powerful technology company in the world. Sundar Pichai is announced as the next CEO of Google yesterday. This is a quick wrap up of 5 things you need to know to understand who Sundar Pichai is.

1. Pichai Sundararajan was born in 1972 in Tamil Nadu to a middle class parents.

His father was an electrical engineer and worked long hours to support their family. They lived in a two-room apartment without a TV or a car. They got their first phone, a rotary, when Pichai was 12.

2. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur in Metallurgical Engineering.

In 1993, he migrated to US and got his Masters degree from Standford University and MBA from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

3. Pichai joined Google in 2004 as its vice president of product management to lead Google’s Chrome browser and operating system.



He is one of the fastest grown employee of Google. He launched Chrome in 2008. In 2013, he was put in charge for Android. By 2014, he was given free rein to oversee products like Google+, Adwords/Adsense, and commerce products.

4. He is married to his long time girlfriend Anjali Pichai and have a daughter and a son.

He is also a big cricketer. Pichai loves to play chess in his free time.

5. Sundar’s net worth is probably in multi millions.

Google reportedly paid him $50 Million to keep Sundar. In 2011, Twitter tried to snap him off from Google to become the product head at Twitter. GOogle offered Pichai $50 million in stocks to turn down Twitter. According to Business Insider, Microsoft also considered Pichai as its new CEO to replace Steve Ballmer.
