Reasons Why Buddhism Is Not A Religion

Buddhism is perhaps the most discussed religion today for many reasons. It elucidates its validity in the current age of turmoil, violence and disregard for human life itself.

 The question 'Is Buddhism a religion or philosophy?' has taken centre stage as far as understanding Buddhist doctrines take us. In this article, we discuss just that -- Is Buddhism a religion or a philosophy?; we go on to ascertain the reasons why Buddhism is not a religion.

In light of this, our arguments are against Buddhism satisfying the tag of religion which is misconstrued as being a way of life, for it isn't leading people anywhere and evidently dividing people, classes and communities.

Does Not Believe In The Worship of a Particular Deity



Unlike other religions Buddhism does not believe in deities and idol worship as such. It does not idealize anybody as God either. This is one of the foremost reasons why Buddhism is not a religion.

Is Not Rigid



Most religions are rigid as far as embracing certain dogmas are concerned. Buddhism, since its years of evolution, has steadily distanced itself from rigidity.

Empowers The Self



While several religions require you to worship a God to empower yourself, Buddhism teaches otherwise. It teaches you to empower yourself. This again is a prominent reason why Buddhism is a philosophy and not a religion.
