1. Easter Island

In the South Pacific, you can find this gem of an island that is unlike any other island in the world and this is mainly due to the giant stone carved statues that are found throughout the land. Easter Islands giant stone statues were officially found in 1722, when you walk the islands lands from the only town of the island you will think that the statues are just giant heads but in reality, they once stood much taller but in the course of centuries the heavy and grand statues have sank into the earth. Very little is known about the giant statues that are known as one of the worlds Seven Wonders, although it is believed that they were fashioned to let travelers and the gods know that they pray. This is all just theory though and there was never any written history referring to the massive sculptures. There are about 887 ancient sculptures on Easter Island.

6. Santorini, Greece

Almost all of the Greek islands are quite astonishing when it comes to history and downright beauty and Santorini is among the best of the best when it comes to these two standards. It is said that before 3,600 years ago the island didnt exist, which is quite true, the island is actually a rim of a submerged volcano that erupted some 36 centuries from the present time, the eruption as it is written in history was one of the biggest and most violent eruptions to ever take place on earth. The eruption was so powerful that it blew chunks of the ground in a circular pattern, creating many of the small islands in the vicinity of Santorini. On the island it is common rumor that the best place to see the sunset is on the island of Santorini and this may very well be true but you will never know until you see it for yourself.

The island attracts millions of visitors each year and there is a good cause for this tourist influx. Even those that are native Italians come to the island to take part in its luxuries the main one being the natural thermal spas that are heated from volcanic activity. 9. Palm Island, Dubai

The uniquely designed Palm Island in Dubai is a spectacle of modern technology to say the least about the ingeniously developed island. Palm Island is in the Persian Gulf and is the largest manmade island in the world known today. The island is impressively shaped to resemble a palm tree and is almost exactly symmetrical in every detail. At night the city lights up in the shape of a palm tree, bright lights carve out the darkness with yellows and golds and if you were to look down on the island from space it would be no problem to see the unique island. There is actually more than one island in the works, thee to be precise which should all be completed in the next decade and a half or so but construction of the islands is already in full swing. It is definitely an island you should visit at least once in your life.

10. Vieques, Puerto Rico

Puerto Ricos island resort is by far Vieques a small but booming little island perfect for visitors looking to escape the normal island experience. The island was once the site exclusive for military procedures only; it was the place the US Army did the majority of their survival training for many years, since then though the island has remained largely underdeveloped. It is this that makes the island so unique by definition. Viequess nature thrives in the under populated island the wild forests and animal inhabited lands are the perfect place to roam the lands in search of photo opportunities of wild animals in their natural state. There is some one of a kind swimming opportunities on the island as well being that there are many bio-luminescent bays to swim in, which are most intriguing at night when the moon is not so bright, on a dark night the waters glow blue and green from million of tiny micro organisms.

Once you visit some of the islands in this excellent list you are sure to visit them all as they are the jewels of the world and the buttons of Mother Natures Blouse. If you miss out on seeing them during your life then hopefully there is a thing such as reincarnation and you are made into a lady bug on one of the magnificent islands because it would sure be a shame to miss out on their prestige. As you can see from this list they are all wonderful places to visit and none is really better than the other but they all have their own aspects that will suit different peoples needs. Which one will you visit first?
