What’s next from ‘Kaththi’?

The team ‘Kaththi’ has somehow found a trick to satisfy the fans of Vijay by releasing the promo videos of ‘Aathi’ & ‘Selfie Pulla’ in the last two days. If the former was a classy romantic number, which was shot in indoors using, green mat technology, the latter one was a massy, crowd pleaser one. The chemistry between Vijay & Samantha is quite evident in both the songs, and the fans are expecting another surprise tonight from Murugadoss and his team.

Ayngaran International has promised that the trailer will be out before Sunday via their personal page, and the fans are expecting something another promo video today and tomorrow. Will it be the ‘Pakkam Vanthu’ song today, and ‘Sword of Destiny’ tomorrow? Let’s wait and enjoy the ride!

Thiruma statement to Ban ‘Kaththi’

A recently released statement from Thol.Thirumavalavan of Viduthali Siruthaigal says that they had made a request to ban the release of AR Murugadoss’ Vijay and Samantha starrer Kaththi. This Anirudh musical was all set to release on Diwali and it seems like it might not happen after all.

The producer of this film is Lyca and sources say that Lyca mobiles have business connections to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakshe and his son. Therefore, to ensure no businesses of that accord enter India, there has been a request to ban this film. Suspicion is that Lyca might be Mahinda Rajapakshe’s benami firm and that he could be having collections of cash here through the firm. The individual asking for the ban clearly states that he has nothing against Vijay or AR Murugadoss but is to do with problems apart from cinema.

'Kaththi' in trouble, verdict today!

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s AR Murgadoss directed Kaththi, produced by Lyca Productions is in trouble. The film has been censored with a U certificate and is all set to release worldwide on Diwali day –
October 22.  Tamizhar Vazhvurimai  Katchi leader Velmurugan has been fiercely protesting against the film.

They say the film’s producer Lyca Productions is close to Sri Lankan president Rajapakse. They want the film’s producers name to change. On Saturday evening Thol. Thirumavalavan, president of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi joined the ‘ban Kaththi’ fray.

External players have been putting pressure on Kaththi producer to change the banner. But Lyca is making it clear that the film will release only under their banner name.

Meanwhile a crucial meeting between Tamil groups, Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners' Association, exhibitors and distributors was supposed to take place on Saturday  But it has been postponed to Sunday. Today’s meeting is all important , as a final decision will be taken on whether the film will release in Tamil Nadu for Diwali.

Lyca on their part are playing it cool and are saying it that they will release it in other parts of the world on Diwali day irrespective on whether it releases in TN or not.

Will 'Kaththi' turn out to be another 'Thalaivaa'?

It is Monday morning (Oct 20), two days before Diwali and Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi due for release on festival day (Oct 22) is still on knife edge!

The producer is refusing to take his name off the films banner and the protesters led by Velmurugan are sticking to their stand of removal of Lyca from the promotions of the film.

Sunday meeting arranged by the trade never took place as the producers Lyca Productions and its associates Karunamoorthy of Ayngaran were trying for police protection. The TN Theatre Owners
Association led by Abirami Ramanathan did not want to take any risk, so they did not start advance booking for Kaththi on Sunday.

Abirami Ramanathan said : “We will take a final call on Kaththi release on Monday. No theatre owner including myself will want to take any kind of risk in the present condition.” At the same time the protesters are sticking to their demand that Lyca be removed as producers of movie.

Trailer: Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Kaththi'

Meanwhile AR Murgadoss released the long awaited trailer of the film on Sunday evening. The trailer has been well received and has created a huge buzz around Kaththi. At the same time the overseas and India domestic prints of the film have been dispatched from Chennai labs.

The big question being asked by Vijay fans is whether Kaththi will turn out to be another Thalaivaa ? Remember due to controversies Thalaivaa could not be released in Tamil Nadu simultaneously with the rest of the world and finally made it to screens after two weeks after its release.

Kaththi - Trailer Review

After several moments of uncertainity, the trailer of  Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi was released on Oct 19 amidst roaring response from fans.

Let us see what the trailer had in store for us:

The official trailer of Kaththi, directed by AR Murgadoss, clocks 1 minute and 36 seconds. It showcases glimpses of the plotline which seems to have Vijay playing the role of a messiah like leader among a group of villagers. Murugadoss has ensured that the trailer doesn’t give away much of the story to the audience.

Vijay looks intense in the trailer and the role appears to have lot of meat for the dialogues. Although it was earlier told that Vijay appears in a double role in the movie, one couldn’t make out the double role from the trailer. It is understandable that Murugadoss is trying to conceal the surprise factors.

The main star of the trailer is undoubtedly Anirudh who starts off the trailer with a different version of the theme music and uses the instrumental version of ‘Selfie Pulla’ for the light hearted scenes. The trailer also showcases Neil Nithin Mukesh who plays the baddy, in a very suave manner. It is surprising to note that Neil has got his lip sync almost perfect. The cinematography of the trailer is distinctly different with several color tones used.

The trailer also carries lots of preachy, message oriented dialogues that reminds us of Vijay’s earlier releases like Sura, Kuruvi and a few other films. Indian by Shankar-Kamal is the most accomplished movie in this vigilante genre and one has to  wait and watch what AR Murugadoss has got to offer in Kaththi.

Uncertainty over 'Kaththi' release continues!

There is still uncertainty over the release of Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s Kaththi. Late on Monday night Ayngaran International who are marketing the film said that all issues surrounding the film are over and the logo of Lyca will be removed from the title cards.

A official press release said: “We are happy to announce that all the issues have been solved amicably. Kaththi is releasing globally as a Deepavali Dhamaka. Reservation will start in theatres tomorrow morning.”

Meanwhile unidentified persons hurled stones at Chennai’s prestigious Sathyam complex late on Monday night, which broke glass panes in the front (see pic).  The producers claimed that they had met all the demands of various Tamil outfits that had been agitating against the film and called for its boycott. Their grievances were that Lyca had business links with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The president of the Chennai Theatre Owners’ Association, Abhirami Ramanathan, had made it clear earlier that they were unwilling to go ahead with the release if the Tamil outfits and the Ayngaran International couldn't reach a compromise.

But T Velmurugan, leader of the Tamizhar Vazhvurimai Katchi, who had brought together several Tamil outfits against the release of the film, said that no communication had reached him about removing the Lyca banner from the title cards.

Vijay confirms 'Kaththi' release in TN

Ilayathalapathy Vijay has issued a press statement, where he updates on Kaththi issue. The actor says, the producers Lyca Productions have agreed to remove their name from all the publicity material of the film, including the title card.

This is due to the protests from some pro-Tamil outfits. He says it is an amicable settlement. Vijay also went on to thank AIADMK chief and former CM Jayalalitha, the Tamil Nadu Police, the theatre owners in the state and his producers for their support in the ongoing issue.

Vijay also wished everybody a happy Diwali and requested his fans and others to enjoy Kaththi in theatres. The advance booking for the film opened in all Chennai multiplexes.

‘Kaththi’ to Rock Abroad

Release details may be precarious back here in Tamil Nadu, but the film is marching steadily towards a record screening abroad. Director AR Murugadoss’ Vijay-Samantha starrer ‘Kaththi’ is facing a number of problems back home in Tamil Nadu, owing to the film’s producers Lyca Productions being a close associate of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is still unclear whether the film will really hit the screens here for Diwali, as promised. However, the film has a record number of screens, ready to have it up and running overseas.

‘Kaththi’ will release in a whooping 118 screens in Malaysia, and a little over 100 screens across the USA. In the UK, 70 screens have been blocked for the film, while France had reserved 24 screens for the flick. It is worth mentioning that ‘Kaththi’ will be the first film to be screened in Norway’s Colosseum Theatre, including which, it has 6 screens in the country.

‘Kaththi’ hits a million within 24 hours

Till this second, the release of the much anticipated movies is unsure in TN, but the craze for the movie has not lost a bit. The trailer of ‘Kaththi’ released last evening 6 P.M, and at the brink of 24th hour the trailer had hit 1 million views and still going strong.

Meanwhile, there are some sources claims that the producer, Lyca has decided to take off their name in TN alone to get the movie on time to theatres, but nothing has been confirmed so far. However, the promotions for the movie in Kerala and the rest of the world are happening in full swing, and the fans are upbeat to see their idol after 9 long months, on screen.

‘Kaththi’ latest press meet details..

Velmurugan, the founder of ‘Tamilar Vaazhurimai Kootamaippu’ is still firm with his decision to act against Lyca productions and he met the press to confirm the same. “Ayngaran is okay to release the movie without Lyca’s logo in TN, but Lyca is not co-operating for the same” – concluded Velmurugan.

He added that the FEFSI Siva has assured that they would not work with Lyca in the future and the theatre owners also looking forward to screen the movie only if does not carry any threat from the protestors.

So, the release of ‘Kaththi’ is still unsure and we tried getting a word from, Abirami Ramanathan, the president of the theatre owners association says that he will release the movie if the producers give the print, else he wouldn’t .

Kaththi Movie Review

Cast:    Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Sathish, Prabhu, Subbu Panchu Arunachalam, Sayaji Shinde
Direction:    AR Murugadoss
Production:    Lyca Productions, Ayngaran International
Music:    Anirudh

The fans would automatically expect too much if a successful pair joins hands once again, and in the case of Vijay – A.R. Murugugadoss it has gone a step ahead. When A.R.M mentioned that Kaththi will be better than Thuppakki, many questioned it, and started to think what would be in store this time. But, the pair has delivered what they promised, and scaled a new peak. Let’s see how they did it in detail.

Plot:

Kaththi is all about, how Jeevanandham, a social activist fight against a monstrous MNC company to restore farming. The other Vijay, ‘Kathiresan’, a small time thief, but an ultra intelligent youngster, who  swaps position with Jeevanandham because of destiny, and leads the war with the corporate heads by, Neil Nithin Mukesh, which tries to steal the fertile lands from villagers.

Cast Performance:

Vijay as Jeevanandham & Kathiresan has delivered a lifetime performance, and showed a brilliant variety in both the roles, albeit not even a great makeover between both the roles. Samantha is cute and complements really well with Vijay for 3 songs, and her smile demands the viewers to take a note out of her as well.  Sathish’s one liners do not make us to ROFL, but it was enough to evoke much needed laugh in this social drama. Neil Nithin Mukesh deserves a special mention for delivering the dialogues beautifully, and he fits the bill perfectly as a chairman of an MNC.

Direction & Screenplay:

It will be an understatement to say that, Murugadoss has mastered the skills of commercial film making. He has raised the bar once again, and mixed the colorful elements in the right proportion of a social drama, and penned an excellent screenplay. Though there are some logical loopholes; those have been brilliantly plastered by cinematic liberties. It will take another Murugadoss’ish effort to shadow ‘Kaththi’.

Technical aspects:

Music – Anirudh has proven what he could do provided if he gets a big movie in his hand. The crowd erupts whenever ‘The Sword of Destiny’ starts to feature, and the youngsters go berserk when they see his name, on screen. This effort will put, Anirudh in a different league, and given his consistency, he is sure to go places.

Cinematography – With just a movie to his name prior to this one, George C William’s work is impressive. He has given a different tone to the ‘Jeevanandham’ episode, and captured the moods of ‘Kathiresan’ in a brighter shade. The jail breaking sequence, and the 360 degree flip inside the tunnel are jaw dropping.

Choreography – Shobi has understood the trap, rap, and kuthu genre to deliver a viral dance moves for all the three songs. The ‘Selfie Pulla’ will be the next big hit in the coming months, and will feature in all the dance competitions.

Action – Anal Arasu has taken an innovative route to script fight episodes. The pre interval block, and the climax fights are mind blowing, and sure to set a trend for the future movies. The cartwheel spin, and knife spin are, ‘once more’ materials.

Dialogues – Murugudoss has conveyed the much needed message to this generation via his brilliant dialogues, and made use of harsh facts to highlight the importance of water and farming. Vijay has voiced the powerful dialogues with a swag of his own to add more firepower to it.

What worked:

Murugadoss has made use of Vijay’s potential and delivered a powerful social drama with a few twists in both the halves. The editing is taut, and the decision not to include ‘Paalam’ song  clogged few more kilometers to the racy screenplay. The stunts are believable, and the director has succeeded in delivering what he wanted to with the help of a tremendous cast and crew.

What not:

A few logical errors in the first few mins, and the pace of the movie for the first 45 mins. If, Kathiresan can simply decode anything, why was he keep getting caught for 18 times when he tried to escape from the jail? Well, it is okay to play to the gallery, and cross the barricades of logics for a commercial entertainer. But the question is, how long will we have to say OKAY to these age old strategies?

Verdict:  Vijay & Murugados have redefined the term ‘commercial’ once again and delivered a perfect diwali treat for the Tamil audience.

Kaththi Music Review

Cast:    Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Sathish, Prabhu, Subbu Panchu Arunachalam, Sayaji Shinde
Direction:    AR Murugadoss
Production:    Lyca Productions, Ayngaran International
Music:    Anirudh

There’s a pattern for Vijay’s album in the past and the people are quite used to what to expect from him. Anirudh has broken all the shackles to provide an all new identity to Vijay with his brilliant tracks. This is Anirudh’s sixth album in less than 2 years, but, the way he has shaped himself to a hit machine is unimaginable. It is not easy to compose songs for a commercial entertainer and let’s assess what he delivered for one of the most highly anticipated OST of the year.

1. Pakkam Vanthu – Anirudh, Hip Hop Tamizha

The album starts off with a great EDM material with Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s rap portion & Anirudh follows him with the trippy verse ‘Pakkam Vanthu Konjam Muththangal Thaa’. Anirudh triggers the first bullet by making use of a double barrel gun, and his partnership with Aadhi hits a hat-trick here. Both the interludes are designed to make the listener say, WOW! And, Anirudh’s late entry in the second stanza to render ‘Maname Maname’ is a brilliant pit stop strategy in a high voltage Aadhi’s F1 race-sque vocals.

2. Paalam – Shankar Mahadevan, Shweta Mohan

An experimental track from the composer as he tries to serve three different flavours within 5.5 minutes. Shankar Mahadevan makes a comeback to Tamil cinema after a brief hiatus and shoulders this tune to give the much needed push. Shweta Mohan sounds authentic in the traditional Carnatic while the chorus portion with kids is likeable. The song ends on a high note with the typical ‘gaana’ rhythm only to leave the listener to think for a while on what genre this track belongs to

3. Kaththi Theme – The sword of Destiny

All of us have heard this one already with the motion picture of ‘Kaththi’ and Anirudh has added a bit of humming at the end of the theme. What starts off like a heavy clash of two swords goes on to burst out with a splashing bullet sound in the midway. One cannot imagine the swag level of Vijay with this theme track on the screen. The theme track has already become a ringtone of many and it is time to be the caller tune!

4. Selfie Pulla – Vijay, Sunidhi Chauhan

Vijay’s sensational form as a singer continues on this album too, as he effortlessly crooned a fascinating romantic kuthu with Sunidhi. Anirudh’s sagacious sound arrangements with fierce guitar portions and shutter sounds are captivating.  The 30 second long prelude consists of guitars and drums are addictive, and Vijay takes off like a well oiled engine from the very first second to deliver an impressive track.

5. Bad eyes – Villain Theme

Is it possible to induce a dark mood with the usages of flute and sitar? Yes, says Anirudh, and he confidently pulls off another coruscating theme track. The stupendous sound engineering is evident and the idea to use as many as instruments to keep up the mood is laudable.

6. Nee Yaaro – K.J.Yesudas

A simple hero worshipping number, but, it sounds soothing because of Yesudas and the mild composition which lets the lyrics take over. The first interlude which extends close to half a minute is poisonous, and the way Yesudas picks up from there is magical. It is hard to believe this legend is on his job for more than 5 decades and still sounds the way he started his journey

7. Aathi – Vishal Dadlani, Anirudh

The Ra. One composer has come back to sing once again for Anirudh. The duo did deliver a fantastic song in ‘Vanakkam Chennai’. The composer wanted to derive one more from Hip Hop Aadhi, and cleverly used his rap portions with Vishal’s vibrant vocals. Anirudh has let his imagination run over with blazing electric guitars and orchestrated a gangster style romantic number. The highlight of the track is; the rap portions of Aadhi which is well connected to the theme of ‘Sword of Destiny’ and no wonder it will be played on a loop on all the music players.

Abirami Ramanathan confirms ‘Kaththi’ release
