Carnatic music is an organization of music related to southern part of the Indian Sub-continent. This music is evolved from ancient Hindu tradition. It is one of the two main sub-genres of classical music; other one being Hindustani music.


Carnatic music gives its main emphasis in vocal music (written to be sung) and even if it is played using an instrument it will come out as a song in singing style.

Carnatic music is performed by a small group of musicians consist of a principal performer (usually a vocalist), a melodic accompaniment (usually a violinist), a rhythm accompaniment (usually an mridangam player) and a tambura. Tambura acts as a drone to group all the sounds together.

Instrument that are played in carnatic music: mridangam, Veena, Morsing, Ghatam, flute, Kanjira, Violin, Pullankuzhal and Tambura.
