Top 10 Breathtaking Views around the World
1. Trevi Fountain, Rome, Italy
The Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in Rome and one of the most beautiful in the world. The idea for its construction initially emerged in 1629, and its realization started in 1732, when Pope Clement XII commissioned Nicola Salvi to create this water wonder at the Trevi Square. The project was finished in 1762 by Giuseppe Pannini and resulted in an unprecedented masterpiece 20 metres (65.6 feet) wide and 26 metres (85.3 feet) high. The central figure of the fountain is the god of sea Neptune. He is riding a chariot, pulled by two sea horses: one is calm and peaceful, and the other one disobedient. This composition symbolizes the temperamental and variable spirit of the sea. A legend says if you toss a coin over your shoulder into the fountain, you will go back to the same place in Rome some day.

2. Magic Fountain of Montjuic, Barcelona, Spain
It spouted for the first time on 19 May 1929 during the Great Universal Exhibition. The project of the Magic Fountain of Montjuic belongs to Carles Buigas, who wanted to create a bold and costly piece of work that will differ from the others. So he created this amazing fountain that continues to delight until today both the citizens of Barcelona and its guests on certain days throughout the year. The Magic Fountain of Montjuic makes a spectacular explosion of various colors and reflections, light and water acrobatics and all that with musical accompaniment. This incredible fountain not only illuminates the night, but also embellishes it with its presence. There really is something magical about it!

3. Fontanes de la Concorde (Concorde Fountains), Paris, France
Both of the fountains are designed by Jacques-Ignace Hittorff, student of the neoclassical designer Charles Percier, and were built during the time of Louis-Philippe. Fontanes de la Concorde were influenced to significant extend by the fountains of Rome, especially Piazza Navona and the Piazza San Pietro. Both of the fountains have the same form and consist of a stone basin, naraids and tritons, holding fish, which spout water and four other statues. Each of the fountains has its own idea and symbolic. The north one is devoted to the Rivers and in its construction set out to represent by allegorical figures the main harvests of France - wheat, grape, fruits and flowers as well as the Rhone and the Rhine Rivers. The south fountain, on the other hand, represents by its figures the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, collecting pearls, harvesting fish and coral.

5. The Buckingham Memorial Fountain, Chicago, USA
Located in the center of Grant Park, the Buckingham Memorial Fountain is one of the most astonishing landmarks in Chicago. The fountain was commissioned in 1927 by Kate Buckingham, who used to frequently visit Europe and therefore wanted to bring some of the monumentality of the Old continent that impressed her so much. The fountain represents the Lake Michigan and was inspired by the Latona Fountain at the Palace of Versailles in France, hence it was built in an unusual rococo wedding cake style. It is equally beautiful during the day and at night with its three layers of basins surrounded by four pairs of bronze seahorses, which embody the four states bordering Lake Michigan. The fountain is notably splendid after 8 PM, when it is accompanied by music and fabulous computerized choreography of bright colour spotlights.

In the center of this of this striking combination is the grandiose gold statue of Samson, fighting with a lion. The official opening if the fountains at Peterhof usually takes place at the end of May and is really breathtaking with fireworks, classical music and other amusing performances.

8. Oval Fountain, Tivoli, Italy
Designed by Pirro Ligorio, the Oval Fountain is located in the Villa dEste, Tivoli, Italy. The entire Villa is absolutely exquisite and is therefore declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2001. The fountain is really magnificent with its egg-shaped basin where the water jets are poured into a pool set against a rustic nymphaeum. This spectacular composition is surrounded by greenery, which makes the whole view even more exotic. The Oval Fountain exudes simultaneously mysteriousness and dignity, which makes it even more attractive and delectable.

9. Archibald Fountain, Sidney, Australia
The Archibald Fountain is situated in Hyde Park, Sidney and is named after J.F. Archibald, who was owner and editor of The Bulletin magazine and also sponsored its construction. The fountain commemorated the association between Australia and France that was created during the World War I. It is a work of the French designer Francois Sicard. The fountain depicts Apollo - a massive bronze statue, surrounded by various mythical figures among which most common are dolphins, tortoises and horses' heads. The exceptional design and the stateliness it emits, make the fountain one of the main tourist attractions at Sidney.

10. Jet deau Fountain, Geneva, Switzerland
New York has its Statue of Liberty, Paris has its Eiffel Tower, Pisa has its Leaning Tower and Geneva its Jet deau Fountain. It is one of the city's most famous landmarks, its emblem and the logo of the tourist office. With its remarkable 140 meters, the fountain is the tallest in the world and because of that, the main tourist attraction of Geneva since 1891. It is especially wonderful at night, when it is lit up and glimmers in different colors. This gives it additional romantic stroke and makes it even more extraordinary and peculiar.
