In a vivid account from the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, reporter Arthur Brisbane spoke of the remarkable Nikola Tesla.
"I can confidently say there is NO ONE ELSE... past or present... who possesses the depth of knowledge about electricity that Tesla does. He is capable of exhibiting a million volts coursing through his body, entering and exiting with ease. 'Tesla appears as a truly luminous being, with light radiating from every pore of his skin, the tips of his fingers, and from every strand of hair on his head.'"
Visual Description:
A letterhead belonging to Tesla, showcasing the World Wireless System. The image of Nikola Tesla captures the Inventor in a dazzling display, enveloped in a multitude of electric flames after he has fully immersed himself in electricity.

Nikola Tesla: A Portrait of Genius
As the door swings open, a tall figure emerges—towering over six feet, lean yet upright. He strides forward with a dignified grace, immediately conveying the presence of a remarkable individual. Nikola Tesla extends his hand, offering a firm handshake that belies his age of over sixty, accompanied by an enchanting smile from his striking light blue-gray eyes set within notably deep sockets, instantly putting you at ease.
You are ushered into an office that epitomizes cleanliness and order. Not a speck of dust is in sight, and the desk is free of clutter, every item precisely placed. This immaculate environment reflects Tesla himself: impeccably dressed, methodical in every action. Clad in a dark frock coat, not a single piece of jewelry adorns him—no ring, stickpin, or watch chain to be found.
When Tesla speaks, his voice is a high, almost falsetto tone, quick and compelling. It's his voice, more than anything, that captivates you.
After he finishes speaking, you find it hard to look away from his gaze. Only when he directs his attention toward others can you take a moment to observe his features: a pronounced high forehead with a noticeable bulge between the eyes—an unmistakable indicator of extraordinary intellect—followed by a long, well-defined nose that unmistakably identifies him as a scientist.
How does this man, who has achieved so much, maintain his vitality and continue to astonish the world with fresh innovations as he ages? How does this youthful sixty-year-old—who is not only a mathematics professor but also a distinguished mechanical and electrical engineer and perhaps the greatest inventor in history—retain such remarkable physical and mental vigor?
First and foremost, Tesla, a Serbian by birth, hails from a lineage known for longevity. His family tree is filled with centenarians, leading him—barring unforeseen circumstances—to believe he will still be inventing in the year 1960.
However, the secret to his enduring youth lies primarily in his dietary habits. Tesla has grasped the essential truth that many individuals not only consume their health through excessive eating but also through unsuitable foods that can lead to their demise.
Upon realizing that tobacco and black coffee were detrimental to his health, he eliminated both from his life. His daily diet is refreshingly simple:
Breakfast:: One to two pints of warm milk and a few eggs, prepared by none other than himself—yes, he is a bachelor!
Lunch: Typically, he skips it altogether.
Dinner: A modest meal consisting of celery or a similar vegetable, soup, a single serving of meat or poultry, potatoes, and one other vegetable, accompanied by a glass of light wine. For dessert, he might indulge in a slice of cheese and, without fail, a large raw apple. And that completes his day’s nourishment.
Tesla is particularly discerning about his food choices; he eats sparingly, but insists on the highest quality. In addition to being a brilliant inventor, he is an adept cook, having created a variety of delicious dishes.
His only flaw lies in his generosity. Often dismissed by the uninformed as a mere daydreamer, Tesla has made over a million dollars from his inventions, spending it just as swiftly on new projects. Yet, he embodies the spirit of an idealist, for whom money holds little significance.

ON LIGHT AND HIGH FREQUENCY PHENOMENA - NIKOLA TESLA, ON ELECTRICAL RESONANCE
“The phenomenon of resonance is increasingly recognized by engineers and is proving to be crucial for the effective functioning of various devices that utilize alternating currents. It stands to reason that if we can harness the principles of resonance in the operation of electrical equipment, the return wire may become obsolete. Electric vibrations can be transmitted effectively using a single wire, and in some cases, this method may even outperform the traditional two-wire system.
Achieving optimal electrical resonance requires minimizing the resistance or impedance of the conduction pathway while enhancing the quality of the dielectric material. For instance, when a Leyden jar discharges through a short, stranded cable made of fine wires, these conditions are ideally met, resulting in pronounced resonance effects.”
~ Nikola Tesla: On Light and High Frequency Phenomena (Presented at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, February 1893, and at the National Electric Light Association, St. Louis, March 1893.)

This photograph captivates me deeply. It reveals a profound truth about humanity. Here stands the most remarkable inventor from the dawn of the 20th century—the architect of our modern existence. His intellectual contributions permeate our lives today, yet he passed away in destitution, without a home or wealth. Nikola Tesla.
A visionary whose life story underscores a grim reality: those who wield wealth and power often disregard the plight of the many. He toiled for Edison, only to be left unpaid. His dream was to provide free energy for all, yet he found himself reduced to begging. If only he had received the support he deserved, our world might be a far more beautiful place today. His inventions now serve to mend the damage inflicted over the past century. He holds over 300 patents, but in truth, he created nearly 600—many of which were appropriated by those seeking profit. Einstein himself acknowledged him as the very embodiment of genius.
This may well be his final image. It ought to serve as a poignant reminder of humanity’s collective failure. It compels us to recognize that innovators require support rooted in compassion. It starkly illustrates the consequences of exploitation and the shortsightedness of those focused solely on profit. Such attitudes extinguish the spark of creativity. More frequently, we lose sight of this crucial lesson.

In the 1920s, Nikola Tesla introduced the multi-wave oscillator, while George Lakhovsky began harnessing frequencies for healing. At a time when electricity still held an air of mystery, two innovative minds—Nikola Tesla and Georges Lakhovsky—saw the potential of electrical waves to heal the human body. Tesla had already wowed audiences with his high-frequency coils, demonstrating how oscillating currents could flow through people without harm, even illuminating bulbs held in his hands. Building on this foundation, he envisioned a “multi-wave oscillator” designed to emit a range of frequencies, allowing various tissues to absorb the specific energy they required.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ocean, Russian engineer Lakhovsky was inspired by Tesla’s theories. In 1923, he presented his own creation, the Multiple Wave Oscillator, featuring concentric copper rings that generated frequencies between one kilohertz and three gigahertz. Patients were placed between the rings, surrounded by a shimmering blue corona. Lakhovsky claimed that weakened cells could tune into their natural frequencies, allowing them to vibrate back to health. Reports from hospitals in Paris detailed miraculous recoveries—infected wounds healing, arthritic pain alleviating, and malignant tumors retreating amidst the crackling light.
Skeptical mainstream physicians argued that these accounts were anecdotal and lacked scientific rigor, with no clinical trials to validate the claims. Nevertheless, the stories captivated the imagination of the era, blending a sense of hope with the spectacle of engineering innovation. Today, bio-electromagnetic therapies continue to resonate with the ideas of Tesla and Lakhovsky, intertwining elements of science, folklore, and modern mythology.

Tesla’s Self-Adjusting Dynamo Regulator (Patent No. 350,954, 1886)
Ever wondered how 19th-century power plants kept the lights from flickering—or worse, exploding—when someone switched on a bunch of new lamps? Nikola Tesla answered that problem with this deceptively simple gadget: a brush-shifting regulator that works like an automatic cruise control for electric generators.
The problem: Early dynamos spat out wild voltage swings. Add or remove a few arc lights and the current could spike, cooking filaments—or sag, plunging streets into darkness.
Tesla’s fix: He mounted the generator’s brushes (the bits that tap power from the spinning commutator) on a pivoting arm linked to an electromagnet (a “solenoid”). When the load got heavier, the magnet yanked the brushes forward to dial down the output; when the load lightened, gravity let them fall back, dialing it up—all in milliseconds. Think of it as a 19th-century feedback loop, no microchips required.
Why it mattered: More stable current meant brighter, safer streetlights and fewer burned-out bulbs—critical for cities racing to electrify.
If utilities had adopted Tesla’s regulator widely, would Edison’s notoriously fickle direct-current grids have survived longer?
Some engineers claim shifting brushes under load shortens commutator life. Progress or premature wear—what’s your take?
Did later “automatic voltage regulators” simply rebrand Tesla’s idea without giving him credit?
Drop your theories (and Tesla-vs-Edison hot-takes) below. Should this forgotten mechanical “AI” get a comeback in today’s retro-tech renaissance? Let the sparks—and comments—fly!

Tesla’s “Lego-Brick” Dynamo Frame (Patent 390,415, 1888)
Picture every generator and motor on the factory floor being built like snap-together furniture: two identical cast-iron slabs, bolted face-to-face, already holding their own magnetic cores, bearings, and bolt holes. That’s the clever twist Nikola Tesla filed in 1888. Instead of fussing with a forest of separate poles, brackets, and housings, the machinist pours two mirror-image castings. Each half carries its field poles, side bars, and end plates in a single chunk of metal; slide the armature between them, pin the halves together, and the machine is ready to spin. Fewer parts means tighter alignment, less vibration, and—crucially for the 19th-century wallet—cheaper mass production.
Utility spreads far beyond the AC “polyphase” motors Tesla is famous for. The same shell works for DC dynamos, hydro generators, even early electric streetcars. With the bearings sitting right at the magnetic neutral points, stray fields stay out of the shaft, so the rotor runs cooler and the brushes last longer. It’s a plug-and-play skeleton long before the phrase existed.
If factory casting lines had adopted this modular frame at scale, would Edison’s clunky, riveted housings have survived the competitive shake-out? Modern electric bikes and drones rely on stamped laminations and 3-D printed stators—are we just looping back to Tesla’s one-piece vision with 21st-century tools? And here’s a kicker: when everything comes in two tidy halves, what stops a backyard tinkerer from assembling a home-brew generator today? Drop your takes below and let the torque wars begin!
