Everybody has already heard that brain games are an amazing way to keep the mind sharp, but I always had my doubts. Well, today we got an unexpected answer.

As it turned out, it is partially true. Brain exercises is a good way to activate your brain, but don’t be so quick to put your stock in crossword puzzles. Researchers believe that brain exercises help us to develop pretty specific cognitive abilities, but if we are talking about problem-solving or decision making, puzzles and riddles can’t help.

But you can do to keep our brain strong enough to live in our crazy world? Dr. Caren Li from Concordia University says one of the most important things is aerobic exercise. When you do sports, it improves your blood circulation, and your brain gets enough oxygen and nutrients. In other words, aerobic exercise helps your brain to work better. You can choose everything you like including running, hiking or speed walking.

But physical activity is not all; your brain needs to be mentally stimulated to work efficiently. And when it comes to brain training, the crucial thing is novelty. So if you play Sudoku every day for many years, it is a challenge for your brain anymore. Dr.Li adds that if you feel that your brain is on autopilot most of your time, try something new.

Being socially active can help because you need a lot of mental power to follow and contribute to a conversation. Learn something new; you can choose what you like ranging from a new language to a new recipe. Visit intellectually invigorating places such as museums and cultural centers. This activity should be exciting or interesting for you. Otherwise, it isn’t going to work.

The rule is simple: just try to push yourself out of your mental comfort zone, and you will make it.
