So I Went To The Doctor. He Said I Was Lacking One Single Vitamin!

Do you sometimes get a feeling like your limbs are tingling, burning or are full of pins-and-needles? Do you feel tired or depressed for no obvious reason? Do you wonder why you used to be full of energy for the whole day, and now the only thing you want is to go home and sleep?

Most people who have these symptoms link them to having a hard day at work or not getting enough rest. However, these “reasons” have nothing to do with the numbness in the extremities and the annoying constant weakness. Of course, when you feel depressed or sleepy, the last thing you want to do is to search for causes of your problem. But luckily, you came across this article which will help you prevent those unpleasant health issues or give you a solution to the problems you already have.

It might surprise you, but depression (even long-term!), problems with the peripheral nervous system (causes numbness in the limbs) and such a serious condition as anemia (you blood doesn’t have enough of healthy red blood cells) can be linked to B vitamins deficiency.

Vitamins of B group, especially the B-12 vitamin, play an important role in producing brain chemicals that affect mood and other brain functions. When you don’t have enough of the B-12 vitamin in your blood, the health problems listed above might occur. But what causes the decrease of the vitamin levels in your body? And how do you know you get enough of the B-12?

B vitamin deficiency can be caused by:

>> eating a poor diet;

>> not being able to absorb the vitamins;

>> sometimes occurs for unknown reasons.

You may take a blood test to check levels of B 12.

Now, who is at risk of suffering the deficiency? Anyone can have the problem, however, some groups of people are more likely to develop it. Those are:

>> older adults (after 50);

>> vegetarians ;

>> people with digestive disorders such as celiac disease or Crohn’s disease.

How to make sure you get enough B-12 and other vitamins? The best way is to eat animal products such as fish, lean meat, poultry, eggs, and low-fat and fat-free milk. Fortified breakfast cereals also contain lots of B vitamins.

You may also take a daily vitamin supplement, but it is necessary to consult your doctor before it. Keep in mind that any supplement cannot replace proven depression treatments! We recommend you to see your doctor if you have any of the symptoms described in this article.
