Director Arun Kumar’s debut film Pannaiyarum Padminiyum was a class film which opened to mixed reviews and failed to perform well at the box office. But this time, things have worked big time in this cop story Sethupathi! Thanks to the superbly written eloquent moments and striking screen presence of its hero, Vijay Sethupathi. by DNSUnlockerX Sethupathi (Vijay Sethupathi) is an upright police officer. If you are a ruffian, better don’t mess with our hero as he would certainly wallop you till death. This rugged side of Sethupathi is while performing his duty but when it comes to his family comprises of his wife(Ramya Nambeesan) and two kids, he is altogether a different person and enjoys every little cute moment in his life. Everything goes smooth till Sethupathi finds that Vathiyar (superbly acted Vela Ramamoorthy), the powerful henchman is the reason behind the murder of a fellow cop. As said earlier, Sethupathi is not the typical flexible cop and he teaches a tough lesson to Vathiyar that the latter loses his pride in his own town. When Vathiyar comes out using all the loopholes in the system, the wounded monster retaliate strongly that at one point of time, Sethupathi even loses his job and a special investigation board has been set against him. Will our honest cop get back his job? Can he save his loved ones from Vathiyar? Watch on the big screen to know… The biggest strength of the film is the fine characterization of Vijay Sethupathi and his effortless performance. He easily switches between the tough and cool act with great balance that it’s a great treat to watch him performing as the formidable cop. The actor looks powerful with the handlebar mustache and steals the show with his uncanny dialogue delivery. Vel Ramamoorthy reminds us of Thilakan in Chatriyan, he is as good as Vijay Sethupathi in the film. The two kids who played as Vijay Sethupathi’s children are too good, the scene where the boy aims the gun towards the rowdy gang is what they call as ‘Theri’ (sparkling) moment. Arun Kumar has rightly packaged the film with feel-good family bonding along with well written action drama to glorify the protagonist. Although the director takes his time to establish all the main characters, pace gets accelerated in the second half and there are many clap-worthy moments in the film. Technically, Nivas Prasanna’s apt songs with stellar background score has elevated the mass scenes to a different level while Dinesh Krishnan’s vivid color tone and sharp cuts of Sreekar Prasad have worked in favur of the film. Overall, Sethupathi is a wonderfully written entertainer and it is a must watch!
