Top 10 Film Festival Cities


1. Cannes, France   



One of the most famous film festival cities in the world is, doubtless, Cannes in France. This magical place is located in the southeast part of the country and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. Every year since 1946 Cannes is proud to welcome the best movies from all genres and present them to the world. This is the most prestigious film festival and an event that all world famous film stars feel privileged to attend. The film industry gathers there in May in order to compete for the festival awards, which will determine which of the movies is actually a masterpiece. The truth is that being nominated to participate in the ceremony it is already a winner, because the very fact that the movie is chosen to be presented in Cannes means that it is definitely worth watching! The beautiful building - Palais des Festivals, where the festival is held welcomes every year the best in the movie industry and this is a happening widely discussed in the world!

2. Park City, Utah, USA   



Park City, located nearby the Salt Lake City in Utah is famous all over the world not only for the superb ski resorts, where tourist from all over the world come to enjoy the wonderful winter sports and have a really nice vacation. Park city is also famous for being the host of one prestigious movie ceremony - Sundance Film Festival, the greatest festival for independent movies in the United States. This is one of the most notable events for the film industry in the world and being there is an extreme honour. This is the event where all creators, who work out of Hollywood, are able to promote their work and show good films could be done anywhere. The organizing of everything is made by the Sundance Institute, which is a special non-profit organization, dealing with all the details regarding the ceremony. It is interesting to note that the festival was named after the film "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".

3. Berlin, Germany   



Every film star or director will be more than proud to receive the Golden Bear Statue, which is the official award of the Berlin Movie Festival. The capital of Germany is definitely a city that everybody would be delighted to visit, because it offers a wonderful list of beautiful sites and amazing places to go and see. No one would deny spending some time in Berlin, because it is actually a beautiful place. The movie festival held there is also much applauded and only the best in the industry are awarded with the desired Bear Statue. Berlinale, as the ceremony is called, provokes with all the glamour of red carpets and fashion and stylish stars and the same time it pays attention to the really valuable issues in the art of film-making. The event takes place in February and there are a lot of visitors, attracted by the ten days dedicated to the wonderful movies, invited to participate.

4. Toronto, Canada   



Among the most famous and prestigious Film Festivals in the world is the one in Toronto. The largest city and Capital of Canadian province Ontario is place where a lot of people live and work, but once in the year in September, there are even more visitors than usual. This is the time of the year, when everybody involved in this in film-making industry holds breath and waits for the International Film Festival in Toronto. Being invited to participate, means that actors, directors and everybody from the industry made a good movie that will charm the audience! The moral award of being a part of this gorgeous event is enough, but it is even better if the film is awarded in one of the categories. This is gorgeous event, that everybody in the industry is expecting with impatience and of course it is a fiesta for all the people who enjoy watching good movies. The eleven days of the festival are an event worth attending and the hospitable city of Toronto is ready to welcome everybody!

5. Guadalajara, Mexico



Guadalajara, called also "The Pearl of the West", is considered to be the cultural capital of Mexico, so it is not surprising why the most glorious and notable Film Festival in Latin America is Held there. The city is famous as a place with a lot of beautiful sites and gorgeous architectures, subtropical climate and nice people. The festival takes part in maybe the best season for the city - the spring and is one week long. The best productions are chosen to participate in the competition for the desired "Mayahuel" award. This is a wonderful event that all people who love the film art appreciate highly. It is not a surprise that for the week in March, when the Festival is held there are more than 100,000 visitors to Guadalajara, coming with the purpose to enjoy the presentation of the best movies and see their favourite artists!

6. Venice, Italy   



Venice is maybe one of the most famous cities in Italy that attracts visitors from all over the world with its unique atmosphere and romantic charm. Known for the incomparable architecture, art and breath-taking sites, the city was called with different names in the years - "The city of Water", "The city of masks" and many others. Venice is a cultural and refined place, where it is a real pleasure to be. The International Film Festival of Venice is the oldest in the world! It was established in 1932 by Count Giuseppe Volpi and since then remained one of the most important events in the film industry. It is an honour for the film-makers to receive the award "Golden Lion", because this is a confession for the quality of the movie. Each of the films participating in the competition is worth watching, because being invited to the event is a kind of prize for its creators!

7. Hong Kong, China   



One of the most populated cities in the world, Hong Kong is buzzing with life and energy! This is not only one of the most modern and busy cities in the quick developing Republic of China, it is also the heart of its cultural life! One of the largest festivals in the world is the International Festival in Hong Kong, which presents best movies from all Asia and all over the world, giving a chance to the new artists and creators to show their masterpieces to the world. It is a very interesting event and many people come to the city because of the festival. This is not surprising, because Hong Kong is a charming city, one of the most desired destinations in China, and for the festival the additional tourists are expected to be more than 600,000. Of course, this is not that big number for the city with one of the highest densities, but is still a number to respect!

8. Rotterdam, Netherlands   



Maybe the most beautiful city in Netherlands is Rotterdam. Refined, elegant and accomplished, Rotterdam has one of the biggest ports and is famous for its gorgeous architecture and stylish vision. Even though it is not as famous touristic destination as Amsterdam, there are still a lot of people willing to visit this majestic city. Every year at the end of January one of the most prestigious festivals in Europe is held in Rotterdam. This is the period, when the city welcomes more than 350,000 tourists coming to applaud all the nominated films presented in the event! This is a wonderful opportunity for all creators to meet their audience and the same time find subsidy for their future projects. This event is one of the most important for the city life. Everybody who has visited it leaves the town pleased with the nice welcome, comfortable stay and unforgettable experience at the festival!

9. New York City, USA   



One of the most emblematic cities in the United States hosts one of the most interesting film festivals. The city of New York, famous all over the world with the gorgeous statue of Liberty, the unforgettable song about "The city that never sleeps" and with its highest density, is visited by millions of people annually! The City of New York is considered to be the cultural capital of the whole world and this is maybe why the film festival in New York is one of the most famous. Having in mind that New York is a city of great cultural importance and the fact that there are several film festivals, which happen there, we must confess that the New York International Film Festival Is one of the most important for the film makers all over the world. Since 1963, when it was established, the film festival in New York is one of the most expected in the movie industry!

10. Tokyo, Japan   



The capital of Japan is a gorgeous city and one of the most beautiful places in the world. Tokyo is the centre of the political, economic and cultural life. When the film Festival in Tokyo was first established in 1985 it was held once in two years, but since 1991 it happens annually. The big praise is the Tokyo Sakura Grand Prix and it is considered to be one of the most honourable and desired awards in the film industry. The participators in the festival are from all over the world and they are all chosen for the quality and valuable productions. All fans of this art are welcome to the festival to see the best works and enjoy watching good cinema and meetings with their favourite actors! There are many meetings and discussions for all the professionals working in the film industry, where they exchange experience and discuss problems.
