Top 10 Most Beautiful European Islands


1. Sardinia   



Incredible Bronze Age stone structures, always fresh and tasty cuisine mixed in with a distinctly unique culture, Sardinia is the place to be. Having absolutely amazing architecture and even ancient Roman bath runs at the historic Fordongianus, its quite an experience just to see all of the intriguing early century sights. This also includes the sacred well of Santa Christina an early era architectural marvel, to say the least. Walking the gorgeous beaches of Sardinia, enjoying the more than deep blue waters is a revitalizing experience like no other, thats aside from knowing that ancient civilizations step foot in the same place so many year ago. Dining in the coastal regions of Sardinia will deliver fresh seafood in most of the traditional plates. Inland the tables turn toward roasted meats. Join the islands annual festivals that have been perfected through the years in order to top off the experience of Sardinias one of a kind culture.

2. Mallorca   



Mallorca is part of the Balearic Islands archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea. The island is known most of all for its outrageous nightlife scene as well as for the huge selection of nightclubs and bars, especially in the downtown areas of Playa de Palma and El Arenal. Mallorca is famous for the baby blue and light green mixture of bay water, extraordinary beaches, dated ruins and the historical architecture that it holds, like the Cathedral La Seu and the Palacio Real de la Almudaina in Palma. To get the full experience of the impressive island, travellers should journey to some of the idyllic villages inland. 3. Santorini   



The Greek island called Santorini was made from prehistoric volcano eruptions more than millennia ago and now is home to a native landscape like none seen in any other part of the world. White homes built on steep cliff edges; they are common on the island and have a blue dome shaped roof traditionally, showing the islands strict rule of following the traditional architectural designs. One of the islands most spectacular sites has to be the sleeping giant, an inactive volcano. Another sight to lay eyes on is the excavated ruins of Old Thera. Greek history is found by the load at the archaeological site of Old Thera. Visitors to the marvellous Greek island can hike through the massive volcanic craters, a remnant of its past power. Visitors to Santorini can also enjoy breath-taking views of the hidden and secluded villages, where past traditions live on strong in the small communities.

4. Ibiza   



A Balearic Island that is truly popular with the younger crowd is Ibiza; the world renowned island is a fashion statement for nightlife destinations. The club scene is overflowing with interesting nightclubs and original décor. Clubs like Pacha, Space and Amnesia are host to some of the most recognized DJs and trend setters in the world of music during the summer months. Making a point to be the party capital of the world, Ibiza is home to the biggest nightclub in the whole world, which can handle up to 10,000 people who come there to party it up. The name of the club is Privilege. Although the party scene is one of the biggest attractions of Ibiza, mainly because its so diverse in atmospheres, its not all that Ibiza has to offer to visitors. They can also travel the narrow streets of the historical district in the town of Ibiza, named after the island and thats aside from all the spectacular views.

5. Sicily   



Step deep into fine art, great food and more than enticing wine selections on the island of Sicily. This is the Italys large Italian island just off the foot of the mainland, although Sicilians consider their heritage away from Italys population, meaning they will not say they are Italians, locals will make sure you know they are Sicilians. Sicily has long been considered a nation in itself and the locals will share why they should be considered so. Although a trip to the island will have an Italian feel, the experience will uniquely be Sicilian in nature. The locals are friendly, helpful and dont mind to help a bit visitors have a great time. Some of the sights to see include Mount Etna the growling volcano, miles of wine vineyards and the Ragusa province where you can find many small villages. Sicily is also home to an unsurpassable amount of natural beauty that can only be seen on the proud island.

6. Corfu   



"The Green Island" or so named Greek island, Corfu is an island famously recognized by the poet Homer as a paradise. The south end of the island is covered with olive trees that tower in the sky some reaching heights of 20 meters or more. Near the Korission Lake the islands most astounding beach can be found, the lake beachfront is amazing. The Korission Lake is the biggest lake in the northwest end of Corfu. The town of Corfu, the capital of the island is a jewel itself, where the architecture is from the Venetian rule. In the Paleokastritsa area idolized bays bring in many visitors and the monastery Moni Theotokos, which is situated on a rock does it share of attracting visitors too. A trip to the island is a trip sure to satisfy with a memorable experience that will make a lifelong impression.

7. Tenerife   



The world acclaim of the Canary Islands is well known and Tenerife is the largest of the island chain. Even though the island chain is actually considered territory of Spain the islands are actually off the continent of Africa, just west of the border of Morocco and the Western Sahara. Aside from stunning views the island has a diverse range of activities for visitors to enjoy, from water sports to outdoors to the art of photography and everything in between. The islands also boast unique cultural style and the culture is engaging to say the least, the locals love to involve visitors in their traditions and cultural activities. Mount Teide is located on Tenerife as well; the mountain is the tallest in the Spanish territories. If you see the island from the top of the heaven-touching mountain the rest of the islands volcanoes can be seen with a miraculous clarity.

8. Madeira   



Madeira is a wine lovers ultimate fantasy, winemaking secrets have been passed down from generation to generation in this Portuguese region. 10. Malta   



Malta is a place that history thrives and archaeological sites are a common thing to come upon. History buffs and growing archaeologists find it hard to leave the island once they arrive; studying the Neolithic Temples built 100 years before Egypts pyramids are amazingly difficult to walk away from. The builders used 20 ton blocks in the construction of the temples and just how these ancient societies managed such an incredible feat is still unknown or completely understood. Another historical site is Saint Pauls Island, which identifies where St. Paul the apostle shipwrecked on Maltas coast. On the island the war grounds of St. John can be seen, where he fought in the name of Christianity. The island is not just attractive because of the history though, the breath-taking vistas are another great aspect of the history rich land. They spectacular views are best captured on the trails or during a boat ride around the island.
