Top 10 Walking Experiences
1. Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
Mountain hiking at its best explains the Torre del Paine National Park in Chile. The park is a place where you can find lakes fed by melting glaciers, granite peaks and the world-renowned "Three Peaks”, which formed nearly 12 million years ago. The park has mountain ranges that top the world, 9,000 feet above sea level. The hike to the highest peak is through rough but spectacular lands, crossing through forests and meadows. The way to the top is fantastic in every way. On the way you will find waterfalls and you will see plenty of wildlife roaming free as well. Some of the lagoons you will pass are named by their color such as Lagoon Azul (Blue Lagoon), which gets its bright blue color from the algae that is found in its waters and Lagoon Verde (Green Lagoon), which gets its pastel green color the same way.

2. Annapurna Region, Nepal
Sitting to the north of Pokhara is Nepals finest place of natural beauty. Shallow valleys and towering, cloud-cutting mountain peaks surround the great Annapurna Mountain or "Himal” in Nepalese. The region is home to many diverse cultures and varying rough terrains. The Annapurna Region is full of tropical jungles and high, barren dry lands similar to that of the Tibetan plains. The Annapurna region is home to the best trekking land in all of Nepal. It is also the most popular place in Nepal as well. The relaxed region is home to some of the finest accommodations in Nepal too. It would almost have to be, as the best of us come to the region to climb the beautiful trails thousands of feet in the sky. The three most popular hiking trails in Nepal are here in the region and they include the regions namesake trail, the Annapurna Mountain Circuit.

3. Milford Track, New Zealand
The great Milford Track in New Zealand, which stretches over 54 kilometers in total length and takes four days to complete at average pace, is often referred to as "one of the best walks in the world”. Over 12,000 people hike the trail each year and they come from all over the world to do so. The trail consists of deep glacier-carved valleys and lush alpine passes as well as some rough boulder-filled terrains. Lakes, rivers, streams and gushing waterfalls are spread throughout the long hike. The park is full of unique birds that you will see while hiking, including the Brown Kiwi. The Kiwi is a prehistoric-looking bird and one that is rare to see but if you hike the whole trail it is likely you will come face to face at least once. The highest point of the trail is around 3,000 feet above sea level.

4. Corsican Mountains
Set on the fourth biggest island on the Mediterranean Sea and part of the French territories the Corsican Mountains are one of the worlds best places to trek. The hike will leave you at the top of the highest peak of the island. Although there are many trails to hike in the mountains the most popular is the one that leads you to the peak of Monte Cinto. There are over 50 summits in the Corsican Mountains. Over 86% of the ranges are made up of what can be classified as mountains, most of which reach as high as 6,000 feet in elevation. The mountains that make up the Corsican ranges are composed much like the Alps with a main foundation of Granite. While on the coasts hiking - predominately the west coast - you will stumble upon the bizarre granite formations that have been hollowed out millions of years ago.

5. Na Pali Coast, Hawaii, USA
Hawaiis Na Pali Coast is some of the most beautiful coastline you can ever hike. The easiest way to get to the rugged seaside terrains is to take a boat to an accessible point or dive off the boat near the beach edge, swim to shore, and then start your hike. Being so secluded, the coast has been primarily left unspoiled as only the determined usually make the effort to gain access. After you access the coast you will be able to find many sites during your journey, including an archeological dig site that is also only accessible by water. The coastline stretches for over 15 miles with diverse and almost always rough lands running along the jet-blue waters. The reason the areas coast is so inaccessible is due to the sheer cliffs that drop straight into the ocean for thousands of feet. But once you get on the coast it is the best experience any outdoor adventurer can have.

6. Hadrian's Wall Path, United Kingdom
Hadrians Wall Path is an 84-mile marked trail found in the United Kingdom; the total hike takes more than seven days for the average hiker and for the inexperienced it can take double that. The trail takes you through some of the prettiest parts of England including the town of New Castle. The great thing about the trail is that it is made for easy access and it is suitable for all ages. Being made up of 80 small trails, hikers do not have to trek the whole length if they choose not to. The trail is classified as an easy trek and it has lodging and even teahouses along its path. The topmost altitude is around 6,000 feet, maximum. The wall actually used to form the north wall of the Roman Empire hundreds of years in the past. During the trek you will be exposed to many historic sites to visit, as well.

7. Ben Nevis, United Kingdom
Ben Nevis in the UK is the biggest uphill hike you will find in the country; it is a total of 1,345 meters high and in the most ideal of conditions it usually takes from 6-9 hours to climb. The time it takes to climb the mountain trail is also dependent on the skill of the hiker. It is the most popular trail in the UK so it could be quite busy, especially on weekends. But you dont have to worry - its not really a hard trail, but many dont take the trek to heart and many people head back down before getting to the top, where the flat summit rests. On the way up you will pass through spring-fed meadows, but you need to be careful as you go through this area as the rocks become quite slippery. When you finally reach the top you will see the ruins of an old observatory and of course the greatest reward, excellent views.

8. Cinque Terre, Italy
The Cinque Terre, which means literally five lands, is actually comprised of just that - five of Italys most beautiful coastal cities. Aside from trekking from village to village there are many trails leading from each town into their surrounding wooded areas, which are not bad for a hike either. In each of the cities there are good places to stock up for a hike into the surrounding areas and on your way to the next town. The towns all have their own history and great Italian dishes as well. The Cinque Terre trail is one of the best hiking areas in the world to eat while you trek. Tasting cuisines of each of the cities is one of the delights of the hike. As you get further in to the hike you will start to come upon sandy beaches and steep dirt paths and finally ending up at the end of the trail.

9. Lycian Way, Turkey
In the ancient lands of Lycia, you will find the 500-km coastal trail called the Lycian Way. This network of old passes and dirt paths is what linked Turkeys small rural villages before the days of motorboats. The rich history of the area is, of course, the most prized part of this extremely long hike. You will pass some ancient ruins of civilizations past, most of which are frozen in time and over two thousand or more years old. These ruins are usually found in the most remote areas and almost always in ideal settings. When you cut through the ancient Lycian city, which is set on a hill, you will see a bunch of huge burial stones piercing out from the land. The path brings visitors and trekkers to the hidden parts of the country and even if the history was not there, the trail has gorgeous and one-of-a-kind settings.

10. The Matterhorn Circuit
The Swiss Alps, probably the best-known mountain range in the world, is now home to a new trail that has just in the past few years been gaining international recognition. The trail, known as The Matterhorn Circuit, links the Swiss Alps ancient trails and the Italian valley trails that have been used for centuries from travelers of both countries. The trail brings you through all the most beautiful lands of the Alps including over 25 peaks - if you can stay on it that long - and it will also bring you through glacial canyons and balcony trails. The best way to experience the hike is to commission a guide that will be able to tell you the history of the hidden trails and also bring you to the best trails that incorporate the most stunning views of the Swiss Alps. To finish the whole trail it usually takes over a week when hiking at a pace of 7 hours per day.
