Hydrogen peroxide can be found in almost any first-aid kit. It’s a substance which has many beneficial properties, both for use in the home and our own health. It’s main features include its antiseptic and disinfectant properties, but it’s important to remember that it shouldn’t be used in large quantities, which could be poisonous.
Here we show you 8 practical uses for hydrogen peroxide.
1. Help fight acne
Hydrogen peroxide, given its antiseptic properties, can help to kill bacteria which cause acne on the face and other areas of the body. Just wet a cotton ball with this solution and rub it on the affected area
2. It’s perfect for cleaning the house
This substance is very efficient at helping us clean the home. Just dissolve 2 ounces of hydrogen peroxide in dish soap and you’ll see how effective this cleaning solution is. Plus, it works to kill all the bacteria which live on kitchen cutting boards. For this, mix equal parts of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar, then leave all the utensils you want cleaned to soak in the mixture for a couple of minutes. You can also use the same mixture to disinfect bathrooms, washbasins, floors, as well as other surfaces in the home.
3. Clean wounds
Given that its main function is as an antiseptic, this substance is often used to clean and disinfect minor wounds. Just dab a piece of cotton wool in the solution, then gently apply to the affected area.
4. Disinfect toothbrushes
Although dentists recommend changing our toothbrush every 3 months, using a small amount of hydrogen peroxide is perfect for getting rid of bacteria. To do so, leave your toothbrush soaking in hydrogen peroxide overnight and, the next morning, just rinse with water.
5. Clean your armpits
It’s very common to notice that this area of our body becomes stained or discolored due to shaving. As an alternative, use a small mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water and you’ll see that it will help reduce discoloration around the armpits. Plus, it’ll also help fight bad odors.
6. Help alleviate throat pain
Mix a little hydrogen peroxide with lukewarm water and then gurgle with this mixture. It will help to soothe an irritated throat. Due to the powerful disinfectant properties of this substance, you can fight the most annoying cold symptoms.
7. Whiten clothes
That’s right, you no longer need bleach to whiten your garments, because hydrogen peroxide (as well as not damaging your clothes) can also be used to whiten your white clothes. Just add a cup of hydrogen peroxide into a bucket of water and leave your clothes in the mixture to soak. Hydrogen peroxide is perfect for removing blood stains, so if you apply it directly onto the clothes it will also remove all traces of the stain.
8. Eliminate bad foot odor
For smelly feet, it’s recommended to dilute hydrogen peroxide with equal parts lukewarm water. Then, submerge your feet for several minutes and then dry thoroughly. With this simple trick, you’ll see that bad odors will disappear.
How you know that you have a low-cost disinfectant at home, which can get you out of a tight spot on several occasions.
