Everyone has suffered from bad breath at least once in their life, and probably a lot more since bad breath is pretty normal, especially upon waking up, isn’t it? And to solve the problem, all you have to do is brush your teeth or have a mint, right? Wrong, very wrong! The problem is not often that simple to solve, nor are our perceived solutions the right thing to do. The problem may be worse than you think, actually.

There is one particular cause, which is quite unknown by the majority of people. It looks like a small whitish mass, and it is extremely bad-smelling. More often than not, they are mistaken for food scraps. Known as tonsilloliths, or tonsil stones, they look like tiny cheese balls.

How can they appear? If you remain without brushing your teeth for extended periods, they can appear due to an accumulation of remains of food. In fact, these innocent-looking tonsil stones can cause several problems, such as tongue coating, periodontal disease, tonsillitis, and halitosis. So don’t even think about going to bed without brushing your teeth, or spending a whole day brushing your teeth only in the morning.

Be sure to look for a doctor to learn more if you think you are suffering from this problem, and maintain a good oral hygiene on a daily basis. It is recommended to visit your dentist regularly for a thorough cleaning, and brushing after every meal, so that no remains of food are left in the teeth. In addition to being important to your health, these measures also improve the aesthetics and your self-confidence when talking to other people. After all, who would like to talk to someone who has bad breath or spinach in their teeth, huh? Let us take care of ourselves, our body deserves it!
