« on: August 11, 2017, 11:06:12 AM »

Spring is here, and yes, so are these little insects that not only give us itchy and annoying bites, but also serious medical concerns. Sometimes you just wish that it’s still winter so you don’t have to bother as much with figuring out what bit you and how you can treat the bite.

So if you are looking for a bug bite-free and itch-free spring and summer season, you need to see this guide about bugs and what their bites look like.

1. Fire Ants

Fire ants are the cousins of red ants so they somehow look the same. However, their bite is really painful. You will have an itchy red rash that looks like a pimple and can often be found on your legs or rear. If you are bitten by a lot of fire ants, difficulty in breathing can follow as a result of an allergic reaction.

2. Black Widow Spider

The bite of the notorious black widow spider looks like very tiny vampire bites. You will see two very small puncture wounds and the after effects include muscle pain and swelling. You should seek medical attention if bit by this spider though it is not life-threatening. People who are treated for this bite mostly recover within 24 hours.

3. Tick

These bloodsorryers can be warded off with bug spray and clothes that cover skin. If bitten by a tick, be sure to remove it completely, including the head and mouth and disinfect the area. Afterwards, monitor if rashes occur. Once you notice a rash that looks like a bull’s eye, immediately test for the doctor for you may have Lyme disease.

4. Fleas

These annoying bugs are almost invisible to the naked eye, and they often the ankles of the feet, or any part of the body close to the ground. You will get small clusters of very itchy welts. Make sure to watch for any signs of infection if bitten by a flea since they are probable carriers of diseases.

5. Honeybee

Most of us get scared upon seeing a bee flying nearby but there is no need to panic. All you need to do is to stay calm because they will not attack you. They will only use their sting as their last option of defense because stinging will kill them. The more aggressive ones are wasps and hornets and they won’t attack if you just leave them alone. However, if stung, watch out for allergic reactions. You can also get a large painful welt.

6. Mosquito

Mosquito bites are one of the most common that we get. Their bites give itchy and lumpy red spots on the skin, mostly on the legs and the arms. Though they are not always dangerous, it is still best to ward them off because they can carry diseases like malaria, dengue, and West Nile.

7. Bed bugs

The bite of bed bugs may not appear until a week after bitten. Signs that you have been bit occur as lines or lumps of red welts on the arms and the shoulders. Their bite itch fiercely and can get infected through excessive scratching. The best thing you can do is to try your best not to scratch and just put calamine lotion to keep the itch at bay.

8. Brown Recluse Spider

These spiders hide in isolated spaces so a bite from them is rare. They are also non-aggressive. However, their bite may cause a serious medical emergency though they are not painful. If you happen to see a brownish-purple spot, you should get to the nearest emergency room immediately as these spots are necrotic lesions and are treated as serious cases.
