Due to the rhythm of a modern woman’s life and lack of maternity support at the state level, the number of myths about the undesirable consequences of breastfeeding continuously increases. Another reason is the huge amount of baby food in the modern market. As a result, more and more young mothers refuse breastfeeding. Let’s find out what consequences this can lead to.
Advantages for the baby
Breast milk contains all nutritional elements and bioactive substances required for the baby. Thanks to this fact, during breastfeeding children are less inclined to:
>> Obesity
>> Diabetes mellitus type 1
>> Crohn’s disease
>> Bronchial asthma
>> Celiac disease
>> Cardiovascular diseases
>> Acute respiratory infections
>> Intestinal infections
>> Sudden infant death syndrome
>> Babies who are fed with their mother’s milk, better tolerate vaccinations. Premature infants less often have necrotizing enterocolitis.
Interestingly, the composition of milk varies depending on the time of day and the age of the baby. It adjusts to the baby’s needs and provides the nutrients it needs at the moment.
Advantages for the mother
When a mother breast-feeds her baby:
*the woman’s uterine contractions increase, which prevents postpartum hemorrhages.
*it prevents the development of breast cancer in its mother’s body.
*prevents the development of type 2 diabetes and reduces the need for insulin if the mother already suffers from diabetes.
In addition, there is nothing easier than to offer your breast to your hungry baby. Breast milk always has the right temperature and concentration.
Breastfeeding is also a reliable method of contraception in the first 6 months of a baby’s life, when the menstrual cycle has not yet recovered, provided that the baby is exclusively breast-fed and if the breaks between feedings do not exceed 2 hours.
When breastfeeding, there is a special kind of contact between the mother and her baby, which contributes to their emotional attachment.
How to feed your baby
In 1992, WHO, together with UNICEF, created a program in hospitals aimed at providing the required conditions for full breastfeeding. According to WHO recommendations, babies should be breastfed starting from the first hour of life. Complete breastfeeding should take place for the first 6 months. After six months, mother can feed their babies with complementary foods for up to a year, or up to 2 years if possible. Breastfeeding should be done at the request of the child without temporary restrictions on the part of the mother.
It goes without saying that anyboby can make their own decisions. However, breastfeeding But breastfeeding has so much benefit that it no mother should deprive her baby of her breast milk!
