We live in a technological era, surrounded by smart phones, tablets, computers, etc. However, many experts have warned us about the negative effects of constant exposure to technological devices, especially for children.
From an early age, kids begin to interact with electronic devices. According to studies, this affects their eyesight, behavior and sleeping patterns.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children under the age of 2 shouldn’t be exposed to these kinds of devices at all, and children older than 5 should only be allowed to use them for one hour per day.
Exposure to the bright light of smart phones and other devices causes damage to children’s eyesight. Prolonged time in front of a screen can cause eye strain, burning, and itchy eyes. One way to stop this from happening is by applying the “20–20-20″ rule. Every 20 minutes, the child must step away from the screen and observe an object at a distance of about 20 feet, for at least 20 seconds.
The light emitted by these devices is called blue light, similar to UV light, which in extreme cases can cause cancer or blindness.
So be warned, moms and dads. It’s important for you to keep tabs on how long your kids spend in front of screens. It could help prevent serious problems in the future.
