What is the Loop on the Back of Your Shirts For?

You've probably seen this loop on the back of most of your shirts.

Why is it there? What purpose does it serve?

According to sources, the loops are modelled after the American East Coast sailors' uniforms. They would hang their shirts on hooks. The loop is called a locker loop. Most shirts started having loops in the 1960s.

So you can save up on buying clothes hangers.
