Louis Riel Quotes

A Canadian politician, a founder of the province of Manitoba, and leader of the Métis people of the Canadian prairies.
Louis David Riel (22 October 1844 – 16 November 1885) was a Canadian politician, a founder of the province of Manitoba, and leader of the Métis people of the Canadian prairies. He led two resistance movements against the Canadian government and its first post-Confederation Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. Riel sought to preserve Métis rights and culture as their homelands in the Northwest came progressively under the Canadian sphere of influence. He is regarded by many as a Canadian folk hero today.

Here are some famous quotes by Louis Riel.

I know that through the grace of God I am the founder of Manitoba.

I suppose the half-breeds in Manitoba in 1870 did not fight for two hundred forty acres of land but it is to be understood there were two societies who treated together. One was small but in its smallness it had its rights. The other was great but in its greatness it had no greater rights than the rights of the small because the right is the same for everyone.
