Top 10 Most Amazing Structures in Asia


1. The Great Wall of China   



The Great Wall of China is the pride of Chinese people and without any doubt the most amazing structure on the Asian continent. Being one of the greatest objects in human history, it is a remarkable monument of cultural and natural character. Often called the 8th wonder of the ancient world, the Great Wall of China is the longest and largest defending structure built in ancient times. It is often called that the wall resembles a curved body of a dragon reaching more than 7,000 kilometres. The giant fortification was made to protect the Chinese Empire from invasions from all sides as it surrounds almost all of the country's territory. This spectacular construction is made by different materials - bricks, stones, wood and tamped earth. Its completion took more than 2000 years and during that time almost each emperor and ruler of China has taken part in the making. The Great Wall of China is the keeper of the Chinese history!

2. Taj Mahal, India   



Taj Mahal needs no introduction. 3. Petra, Jordan   



Petra is one of the absolute wonders of the world and definitely deserves its place among the most amazing structures in Asia. It attracts tourists from all over the world, some driven by their curiosity how can a city be built in the rocks among the desert and other wanting to set foot on a place where many present cultures have begun. The path in Petra is long, rock canyon which narrows to 3-4 meters at times and its height goes up to 200 meters. In front of your eyes, ancient tombs, Roman amphitheatre, which remains to be arena of arts, will be revealed. A gem of Petra is the Ad Deir monastery, but to reach it you will have to climb eight hundred steps. Another one is the Al Khazneh - it is the treasury of the ancient city where treasures of Egyptian pharaohs are believed to be hidden. The mysticism of Petra simply has to be experienced!

4. Angkor Wat, Cambodia   



Angkor Wat is the most scenic temple complex in Cambodia and one of the biggest in the whole world. With its 3000 square kilometres, the "Lost City" is a keeper of ancient secrets, rituals and traditions since the 9th century. This breath-taking structure was discovered in the late 19th century and has preserved the ruins of several Khmer empires. 5. Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand   



The most sacred of all temples in Thailand, the guardian of the country - Wat Phra Kaew is an absolute jewel in the crown of Asian architecture. Located behind the walls of the Great Palace in Bangkok, you can't miss the marvellous temple complex. Six doors having oxen alongside the path will welcome you to one of the most beautiful sites you will ever witness. In a rectangular hall surrounded by golden alters you will see the holiest Thai relic - the Emerald Buddha. The actual figure is not very big. It is around two feet tall and is made of green jasper. It is known as emerald because of the green colour of the stone. According to Thai legends, this figure has divine origin and it has been carved by this solid material for only seven days. The Emerald Buddha was brought by the King of Heaven Spirits. Wat Phra Kaew is a vivid structure dedicated to religion in the heart of Bangkok.

6. Forbidden City, China   



Once believed to be the centre of the world, the Forbidden City remains a mystery six hundred years after its building. It continues to be one of the most grandiose human achievements, a symbol of the greatness of an emperor covered in secrets. The Forbidden City is the biggest wooden palace complex in the world and the best preserved palace in China. It is located in the present city of Beijing. The Forbidden City covers more than 700,000 square meters and it was built for the emperor Zhu Di. The construction of this masterpiece began in the early 15th century while the search for materials lasted ten whole years. In the end, the complex featured nearly 1000 buildings with total of 9999 rooms. The architectural wonder made of the special nanmu tree combines traditional Chinese elements with some Eastern Asian details. Today, the Forbidden City opens its doors to let every tourist see its vivid beauty and admire the architectural genius of its creators.

7. Wat Rong Khun, Thailand   



Wat Rong Khun is different than any other temple in Thailand; it is actually a unique structure that can be only seen in Asia. It is an interesting combination between the traditions of the Buddhist architecture and those of contemporary modern art. The temple is almost entirely white and for that reason it is often called the White Temple. It is decorated only with little glasses which create the illusion of space and give it fairy appearance. The white symbolizes the purity of Buddha while the glass - its endless wisdom that enlightens the world and the whole universe. Wat Rong Khun is built to be observed in moon light because when the moon is shining, you witness the most incredible view in Thailand. 8. Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar   



Shwedagon Pagoda is a unique structure and a Buddhist monument in the Myanmar's capital city - Yangon. The emblematic building is located west from the Kandawgyi Lake rising above the city on the Singuttara Hill. Shwedagon Pagoda is the most sacred Buddhist structure in Myanmar as it is believed to keep the remains of four Buddhas. The exact date of the construction remains unresolved until today. The main golden building is 98 meters tall and nine tons of gold have been used for its erection. At the top of the temple you will see numerous gems decorating the spectacular structure. You can enter this maze of temples through four entrances although some parts are accessible only to men or monks. According to local legends, the crypt of Shwedagon Pagoda is guarded by spinning swards and some of the tunnels reach Thailand. Once you see this architectural masterpiece, you will be speechless by all this beauty.

9. Potala Palace, Tibet   



Potala Palace is one of the most memorable and grand symbols of Tibet's excellency and power. Located on the beautiful hills of the vast Lhasa valley, it is erected on 170 meters above the sea level. The enormous monumental complex still carries the memory of the never-dying glorious past. This palace has kept big part of Tibetan culture and customs. Potala is an exquisite example of genuine mastery of the ancient Tibetan builders and their incredible architectural decisions and traditions. First time when you see it, you will wonder if all this have been made by a human hand. The construction of the palace has begun in 7th century but it has been completed ten centuries after that. The site is divided into two palaces - the White and the Red one. Everything is decorated by hand with superb perfection though some parts of the Potala Palace have been destroyed. 10. Prambanan, Indonesia   



The temple Prambanan is unusually beautiful structure erected in the 10th century AC. With its height of nearly fifty meters, the sanctuary is an embodiment of the dream of its creator and a demonstration of the Hinduism on the Java Island. Local people tell an interesting story about the erection of Prambanan. A local man had fallen in love with a girl which asked him to build a temple with thousand statues only for a day so that she could reject his love. When she saw that the man was almost done, she begged the people from the village to burn rice so that he thinks the dawn has come. When he understood he was misled, he cursed his love to become the last statue of the Prambanan. The main structures of the place honour the gods - Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva with their facades towards the East. Embrace this marvellous architectural achievement called Prambanan.
