Thirudan Police Review

Director: Caarthick Raju
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
Producer: S. P. B. Charan

Debutant director Caarthick Raju’s Thirudan Police is a nice fun ride. It is well written comedy entertainer which also has a strong emotional story about the bonding between a father and son. And also an entertaining hide and seek thriller featuring a cop with a vengeance.

There is nothing new in the old and tested formula story. Viswa(Dinesh) is a good for nothing guy who lives in a police colony and is son of an honest constable (Rajesh). It follows the conflict between a disciplinarian father and his wayward son. One day the constable dies in line of duty and the son gets his father’s job.

The rest of the story is how Viswa becomes from a reluctant cop to a disciplined guy, who takes revenge against those who murdered his father. He also goes through an emotional upheaval when he realises the goodness in his father whom he hated during his life time.

The commercial elements are blended well into the narration. The hero friend and constable played by Bala Saravanan is a scream. He backs up as Viswa’s alter ego and his dialogues make you laugh. Ishwarya Rajesh the heroine is there for the songs and for some romance.

The villains played by Rajendran and John Vijay are hilarious, and in the climax scene they are sure to get more claps than the hero. Dinesh still has a Cuckoo hangover but does a decent job and looks like a constable.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is just run of the mill. Vijay Sethupathi is the item boy as he appears in a Kuthu song. SPB, the producer’s father makes a cameo as a professor and is riveting. The film after all is a tribute to all fathers. And end title card is innovative, featuring photographs of the team with their fathers as special song on fathers is played out.

Well done Caarthick Raju for making a jolly good movie which has an emotional connect as well as entertains and is just 2 hours 12 minutes.
