The Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) is Munich’s iconic cathedral and a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture. Completed in the 15th century, its twin red-brick towers crowned with green copper domes dominate the city skyline. Inside, soaring vaulted ceilings create a serene, awe-inspiring space. Outside on the cathedral square stands the Mariensäule, a tall Marian Column topped with a gleaming golden statue of the Virgin Mary, erected in 1638 to celebrate the end of war and plague. The radiant figure, shimmering above the city, has become a beloved symbol of protection for Munich and all of Bavaria.
