We all have been given numerous tips and tricks on how to take good care of our hair to make it look shiny and healthy. There’s been so much information, one could easily get lost in the sea of recommendations, let alone being able to distinguish truth from myths.

But despite all the myths, the use of the right natural remedies will always be beneficial to our hair:

We’ve decided to create a short overview of the popular hair care myths that drive us to disappointment and keep us from achieving our goal of perfect brilliant locks.

Myth # 1: Frequent trims make hair grow faster.

Truth: Hair grows a half-inch per month, no matter if we trim it or not. It might grow a little bit faster in summer, but it has nothing to do with our hairdresser’s scissors, but with hormones that influence its growth. However, trimming is actually useful, as it helps to get rid of split ends and to prevent breakage.

Myth # 2: Using shampoo twice for the best results.

Truth: This myth was created by the shampoo producing companies for their clients to use up the product twice as fast. The truth is one washing is enough, while too much shampooing could damage the hair color and make it too dry.

Myth # 3: It is possible to mend split ends.

Truth: Once the hair end is split, there is virtually nothing we can do to mend it. The only way to fix this is to trim the ends. There is a way to make them less noticeable, though, by using beeswax or products containing silicone, according to the recommendations of the celebrity stylist Jimmy Paul. They will seal the ends temporarily, making the hair softer and easier to style.

Myth # 4: Plucking out one gray hair will cause two more appear on its place

Truth: Plucking hairs is never a good idea, as this can also damage the roots or even cause the infections and leaving a scar. Besides, it will not solve the gray hair problem.

Myth # 5: Ice-cold water, used for rinsing, will make hair shiny.

Truth: While cold water might energize a lot, unfortunately, it has no effect of the brilliance of the locks.

Myth # 6: Coloring hair is harmful and results in major damage.

Truth: Thankfully, in these days and age, we are able to find professional products as well as products made for home coloring that are gentle enough not to damage or weaken the hair, if used correctly. A lot of remedies contain conditioners, helping to make the locks look even better than before the coloring. It’s a good idea to consult a professional before making cardinal changes, though.

Myth # 7: Brushing your hair 100 strokes a day will make it grow faster

Truth: This idea is not just absolutely useless, but might actually be very harmful. Intensive brushing is pulling the hairs out of their follicles and generally weakens them. It’s a good idea to brush the locks only to style them or when it is absolutely necessary.

Myth # 8: It’s important to switch shampoo once in a while.

Truth: There is actually no need to switch if you have been using a particular product for a year, and the hair feels fine with it.

Myth # 9: Brushing wet hair is harmful, only comb is permitted.

Truth: A special brush, actually called “The Wet Brush,” has been invented specifically for this reason. It untangles wet hair perfectly without damaging it.

Myth # 10: Dandruff is caused by dry scalp.

Truth: The truth is dandruff is the result of an oily scalp. It is produced by one specific yeast that inhabits oily environments. Another reason for its appearance could be a contact dermatitis, which is basically a kind of an allergy to some products.

Having a beautiful and healthy hair is an important part of a great look, which is essential for our comfort and well-being. Take good care of your hair, and it will respond with brilliance and glow for many years to come!
