6 Tips For Healthier, Better-Looking Hair

The way your hair looks is an important part of your image. Keeping hair healthy and shiny is actually easier than it may seem! Below are some tips that will help make your hair healthier:
1. Eat enough protein.
Lack of protein in your diet can make your hair weaker, more brittle, and it can even start falling out. To avoid these problems, consume at least 45 grams of protein every day. Foods rich in protein include lean meat, poultry, fish, low-fat dairy products, and eggs.
2. Make sure you consume enough of other nutrients and vitamins.
For your hair to remain healthy, your diet also has to include enough zinc, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin D. If you don’t eat enough of them with your food, you may consider taking supplements.
3. Use right hair products.
You should only use shampoos and other hair products designed specifically for your hair type. How often you use them also matters: some people with oily hair have to wash it every day, while people with dry hair can wash it once or twice a week. And when you wash your hair, focus on massaging the scalp, not the hair itself. And don’t forget to use natural oils to keep your hair strong and healthy:
4. Don’t forget about conditioner.
Apply a conditioner after using shampoo. Leave it on your hair for a couple of minutes, then rinse it out. Using a conditioner can help keep your hair soft, shiny, and easy to brush, and can even protect your hair from dangerous UV rays to some extent.
5. Don’t use heat on your hair too often.
Blow-dry your hair only when it’s necessary. If you’re not in a hurry, let your hair dry on its own. Try to limit the use of flat iron and never apply it to wet hair – it is more vulnerable to damage when it’s wet.
6. Try to avoid or limit factors that contribute to hair damage.
Factors that can harm your hair include:
- excessive consumption of alcohol;
- smoking;
- extreme dieting;
- excessive stress.
Certain medications, such as anticoagulants, antidepressants, and drugs used to treat heart problems, high blood pressure, and arthritis, and health conditions, for example, hypothyroidism, can also have a negative effect on your hair. Ask your doctor what extra measures you can take to keep your hair healthy.
