10 Things Most People Are Doing Wrong In The Shower

A nice hot shower is a universally favored relaxation technique. However, many people are unaware that some of the things we are used to doing in the shower do us more harm than good. If you want your skin and hair to stay healthy, dermatologists advise breaking these 10 shower habits.
10 things you are doing wrong in the shower.
1. Skipping foot scrub
It’s not enough to just wash your feet regularly to avoid harmful bacteria and fungus: they need to be cleaned thoroughly with soap, using scrub, brush or pumice. Pay particular attention to the skin between the toes. It’s also necessary to dry your feet thoroughly after a shower.
2. Leaving your loofah in the shower
Many people are used to leaving theirs somewhere in the bathroom, but its high humidity creates excellent breeding ground for bacteria and mold in the dead skin cells left on the loofah after showering. Wash your loofah thoroughly and hang it out in a dry place rather than leaving it right in the shower stall.
3. Toweling off too roughly
You might never have given this thought, but when you dry yourself too roughly after showering you might as well have used sandpaper. This damages the softened skin and may provoke irritation. Use a soft towel, and pat it across your body instead of scrubbing.
4. Washing your hair every day
Dermatologists are very insistent about this being a bad habit. In particular, people with fine or delicate hair should use shampoo no more than twice per week. More frequent washing curbs natural oil production, which is needed to maintain the moisture balance.
5. Delaying the use of moisturizer
A shower leaves you feeling relaxed and lazy. Curling up in front of the TV for a while and leaving off the moisturizer until later might seem like a normal course of action, but in fact moisturizing has to be done right after the shower, when the skin is still wet.
6. Skipping after-workout showers
It’s essential to shower after a workout, and not just to get rid of the smell. The perspiration left to dry on your skin provokes the growth of bacteria which may lead to breakouts and irritation.
7. Taking long showers
However odd this sounds, lengthy showers actually wash moisture from your skin. Experts advise keeping your showers no more than 10–15 minutes long. The shorter, the better.
8. Conditioning the entire length of your hair
This is not only a waste of conditioner, but a mistake than provokes excess grease production. Condition the lentgh of your hair and the ends, but don’t rub it into the roots.
9. Skipping cold water after the shower
Taking a hot shower and then hopping right out is what most people do, but even a second or two of cold water at the end of the shower will do wonders for your body. Before leaving shower, turn on the cold water at least for 30 seconds. This will strengthen your immune system, increase stress tolerance and raise your spirits.
10. Wrapping your hair in a towel
This very common bad habit may not exactly leave you bald, but it does damage the hair. It’s better to simply pat off the moisture instead of rubbing or wrapping your hair.
