Stress and anxiety are inherent in our lives. Some of us have strong psychological defensive mechanisms, some don’t. When levels of anxiety and stress become unmanageable, a nervous breakdown happens.
Nervous breakdowns can be triggered by traumatic events in your life, but this isn’t the only factor. Some people just don’t know how to vent negative emotions and they keep them all inside. But once you’ve had enough, your mental and physical state starts to deteriorate.
There are certain physical and emotional signs which you can see in someone having a nervous breakdown.
Emotional signs include:
>> aloofness and lack of interest in things that you normally care about;
>> you find it hard to focus on the task at hand and can’t control your attention;
>> feeling depressed, angry, and/or anxious;
>> a sense of detachment from what’s going on around you;
>> thoughts about self-harm, if this happens, you should talk to a specialist immediately;
>> alcohol and drug abuse.
Physical signs are:
>> sleeplessness;
>> fatigue;
>> persistent illnesses;
>> headaches and dizziness;
>> pain in muscles;
>> problems with digestion;
>> increased heart rate;
>>hot flashes and cold sweats.
If you recognize these symptoms in yourself, here’s what you can do about it:
Talk to someone you can trust about you problem
It can be a relative, a friend, or a doctor, tell them what worries you and you will feel better.
Maintain a healthy diet with lots of fruit, vegetables, and protein
Remember, physical activity is also important
Learn to relax
There are different useful techniques you can apply.
Tackle problems one at a time and don’t rush with important decisions
Focus on the positive, don’t pay much attention to minor problems
