Kaashmora  Review

Director: Gokul
Cast: Karthi, Vivekh, Nayanthara, Sri Divya

Kaashmora is an ambitious historic supernatural thriller laced with humour, that works to a large extent because of Karthi’s screen presence and energetic performance. His versatile performance as the comical black magician and a warrior showcases his hard work and it is rightly supported by rich production values. On the whole, Karthi single handedly carries the film on his broad shoulders.

Kaashmora (Karthi) is a fake black magician, who swindles money from people using their fear as a tool. Using his skills, Kaashmora slowly becomes the numero uno black magician in town that even earns the faith of top cops and a leading politician (Sarath Lohitaswa). When the politician comes to know about income tax raid, he asks his guys to handover all the documents and crores of money to Kaashmora’s dad (Vivek) and family. Both Kaashmora and his dad sketch a plan to settle down with the politician’s looted money but unfortunately they get stuck in a haunted palace, which is under the control of the spirit of a dead warrior Raj Nayak (Karthi), who is waiting for a pournami (full moon) day to get back his lost life.

Why did Raj Nayak want Kaashmora and his family? What happened to him? Watch the film on the big screen.

Please note that Kaashmora is not supposed to be taken seriously. The film completely belongs to Karthi and he shines as the deadly warrior Raj Nayak with his villainy mannerisms while his performance as the comical black magician is a scream (though we have seen him as a similar con-man in Siruthai). He has showcased striking difference in body language for both the characters—if Raj Nayak looks majestic, Kaashmora brings the much needed comic relief. After Karthi, Vivek attracts us with his comic one liners.

Nayan might have the fewest scenes but she creates maximum impact. Her face is so luminous that she seems lit from within. She is intimidating as Princess Ratna Mahadevi. Her styling and screen presence is unmatchable. Sri Divya has nothing much to do.

On the downside, the historical portions is not as powerful as highlighted in the trailer. The narrative starts to suffer from a hangover of Baahubali and post-intermission your patience wears thin and becomes little exhausting.

But nevertheless Kaashmora entertains mainly because of the subtle comedy. Santhosh Narayanan’s background score is undoubtedly one of the biggest strengths of Kaashmora and big kudos to the visual effect team, they have given their best for the budget given. Om Prakash’s crystal clear visuals with apt lighting rightly sets the mood.

To conclude, Kaashmora is an ambitious attempt, which is fun because of the brilliant performance of Karthi.

'Thambi Dei kalakkitte', said Suriya the proud brother

Suriya has showered praise on his younger brother Karthi's Diwali release, Kaashmora.

"I hugged him when I saw Paruthiveeran but now I stand a few steps away in awe - Thambi Dei kalakkitte! (brother you rocked). Your work in Kaashmora blew my mind! I didn't see this coming & he didn't breathe a word about this stupendous film, which he's pulled off so effortlessly! Karthi you all totally took me by surprise. Now I've new benchmarks to reach", wrote Suriya on Twitter. The actor added "Gokul & team, you guys have taken our Tamil cinema beyond unseen frontiers. The cast & their comedy timing, the camera & production design, costumes, dialogues & CG work shine in every frame! It's tough to act in a VFX led film where the atmosphere has to be imagined while acting! But Rajnayak & Ratnamahadevi rule & light-up every scene! My heartfelt congratulations to Dream Warriors for this magnum opus! This is a full-blown big screen entertainment guys, do watch it only in theatres".

Kaashmora has got tremendous opening in TN and AP/TG. Sources say that the first two days worldwide gross of the film is around 24cr. The major advantage for the film is the additional revenue, which the makers are getting through the Telugu market.
