Why Coconut Is Used In Prayers

Why do we actually have coconut in our prayers. Coconut or Tengai (tamil) is known as honey fruit. This fruit is known to be able to withstand the pressure of the sea water and it cannot transit over to land without humans picking it up.

Traditionally, Copra means the symbol of luck and prosperity. In every auspicious work, it begins with breaking the coconut and offering it in a traditional ritual . According to traditions the hard kernel inspires one to do  hard work and to attain success. And it is also offered at occasions like weddings, festivals, new vehicle, house and etc. The coconut is broken and placed before the Lord, and it is distributed as holy gift.

The coconut symbolises selfless service  and used in preparation of many ayurvedic medicines or other alternative medicinal systems.
