Navarasa Thilagam Review

Had Navarasa Thilagam released somewhere round 80's, the film would have been a sure hit. Now our audiences are exposed to world cinema so clichéd comedy sequences with a village bumpkin as a protagonist doesn't work anymore in Kollywood. Ma Ka Pa Anand is a carefree youngster and tries his luck in several business that he loses all the wealth of his dad (Ilavarasu). The only thing remains for Ilavarasu is a wine shop and most of the time, Anand prefers to roam with his friend and business partner (Karunakaran). As said earlier the director has made Navarasa Thilagam with truckloads of clichés—right from falling in love with the heroine (Srushti Dange) at first sight to stopping her sister’s marriage for the so called twist in the intermission, the entire film is a plodding ride. With Siddharth Vipin’s character, the director has literally introduced a new genre called fart comedy but the sad thing is only he has to laugh for the so called jokes. Ma Ka Pa Anand has tried his best to become another Sivakarthikeyan but he neither got the comic timing nor the charming screen presence like the latter. Shrusti Dange looks cute but there is no scope for her to perform while good actors like Karunakaran and Jayaprakash dissapoints. The background score is such a pain and none of the songs stay in your mind. The cinematography, editing and the entire technical team lag behind at least twenty years and they must immediately update themselves to the current trend to survive. Overall, Navarasa Thilagam is a damp squib and the joke is only on us!
