Pasanga- Audio review!

Cast: Surya, Amala Paul
Music: Arrol Corelli
Lyrics: Na Muthukumar, Karky, Yugabharathi
Direction: Pandiraj

Album Analysis:

Kaatukulla Kannakatti
Singer: Anand
The best track from the album! ‘Kaatukulla’ has a jazzy tinge to it and is on the lines of ‘Bum Bum Bole’ from ‘Taare Zameen Par’. The pianos play it well along with the saxophones. There’s a quirky undercurrent throughout the entire track. Quirky is the word!

Pookalai Killi Vandhu
Singer: Yazin Nizar
‘Pookalai’ is completely a situational track where Correli delivers a simple rhythmic tune backed by just chord cues & guitar strumming in the interludes. The dynamics has been reduced and more emphasis has been given for sticking onto the situation that the movie demands.

Chota Bheem
Singers: Yazhini, AL Srikanth
‘Chota Bheem’ plays out as some sort of kid’s introduction song. With lyrics written to target the kids by consisting the names of cartoon shows, the singing keeps the song ear pleasing. Fans of Ajith & Surya – there’s a scream factor for you in this song!

Tham Tham
Singer: Anand
‘Tham Tham’ is a track that has a hoppy tune which is rendered effectively by Anand. The extensive use of violins accompanying the rendition is so endearing to listen to. A track that could churn out neat montage visuals!

Pasanga 2 Theme
Instrumental
The instrumental theme music plays out to Correli’s strength – the string sections do sound great and the track plays out to a lengthier duration than most theme music tracks. Must have a big role to play as a rerecording piece.
On the whole, Arrol Correli follows up Pisasu with yet another impressive outing in ‘Pasanga 2’. The entire album is pleasant, feel-good & caters to the needs of the movie.

'Pasanga 2' audio launched

The audio launch of Suriya’s Pasanga 2 happened at Sathyam Cinemas, Chennai. Speaking at the event, Suriya said that his role in the film demanded a lot including a subtle performance.

“Initially, Pandiraj had asked me six days for the film but later wrapped my portions in fourteen days. Though Pandiraj’s narration gave an easy feel to the character, while shooting for the film, I had asked myself ‘Why I’m not like Nagesh , Robin Williams or Jim Carrey?’ because the role demanded such a unique performance”, said Suriya.

“Pandiraj’s strength is his writing. Just like how he had conveyed the problems of rural kids in Pasanga, our new film will deal about the problems of urban kids”, added Suriya.

Suriya also said that Pandiraj has worked for five years on the script of Pasanga 2 and his production house is planning to release the film by the end of November through Escape Artists’ Madan .

“I always wanted to work with Suriya sir. When I went for Deiva Thirumagal audition, Vijay asked me why I came into the Tamil film industry and I told him that I wanted to work with Suriya”, said Amala Paul.

“I approached Suriya sir to play the particular role because my script needed a big actor's strong screen presence to convey the message”, said Pandiraj at the function.  “All the actors in the film have justified their characters, especially Bindu Madhavi who did not even ask what her salary was”, added Pandiraj.

Apparently Bindhu Madhavi herself had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Syndrom (ADHD) in her childhood, which is the issue handled in Pasanga 2 and hence she said that she could relate well with the character.

Speaking at the function, Karthi said “These days the young generation doesn’t know parenting and we do not understand the needs of kids. We are providing iPhone and iPad for kids but what they need is our attention”.

Karthi also said that his brother Suriya is a big inspiration as he keeps pushing the boundaries. The tentative release date of Pasanga 2 is November 27th.

Pasanga 2 Review

If you are a parent of children with some special problems, Pasanga 2 is a relevant film and you will end up with moist eyes. The film basically deals with two kids, Kavin (Nishesh)and Nayana (Vaishnavi), who have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or in layman term - hyperactive.

Apparently, their naughtiness brings trouble to their respective parents (Karthik Kumar-Bindhu Madhavi and Ramdoss-Vidya Pradeep) and when they consult doctors, each one of them tag their kids with different disorders. Far too many co incidents? Things get better when both Kavin and Nayana’s parents meet the ideal couple Dr. Tamizhnadan (Suriya) and new age school teacher Venba (Amala Paul), who live in the same apartment complex.

If director Pandiraj had portrayed the innocence of rural kids in Pasanga, here he has tried poignantly to register the issues of urban kids and their parents. Making meaningful cinema is one thing but what Pandiraj has done is that he has packaged all the relevant issues in a typical Tamil cinema entertainment format with large doses of comedy and smart dialogues.

Yes, there are few cinematic liberties and melodramas sprinkled in the screenplay but that’s how one can touch the hearts of the masses and also bring back the INVESTMENT to the producers!

Other than Pandiraj’s smart writing, the two kids Nishesh and Vaishnavi are the real stars of the film. If Karthik Kumar and Bindhu Madhavi couple brings seriousness to the film, Ramdoss is there to provide comedy as a guy who is a Kleptomaniac.

Suriya, who comes as a sensible child psychiatrist adds more energy to the movie in the second half and Amala Paul too has done a decent job, especially the couple’s flashback portions are interesting with typical Pandiraj's touches.

On the downside, the film’s major drawback is the deja vu feel, as it is a mixture etched out of Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par and some scenes from Mani Ratnam’s Anjali. At times the film looks like a documentary  but despite the predictability, the feel good factor and sharp dialogues kindle a strong emotional connect with the characters on the big screen.

Balsubramaniem’s scintillating cinematography and Praveen KL’s crisp cut are the added strengths for the movie while music composer Arrol Corelli scores well with his beautiful melodies and background score.

Overall, Pasanga 2 is a neat family entertainer and is a must watch for both parents and current generation kids.

'Pasanga 2' success: Suriya gifts a car to Pandiraj

Suriya is super happy with the success of Pasanga 2 that the actor has presented a brand new car to director Pandiraj. When  called Pandiraj to confirm the news, the director shared a lot of things about the success of Pasanga 2 and also on his future projects…

Pasanga 2 has become a sleeper hit. What’s your current mind set?
As a team, we are extremely happy that parents and kids are enjoying the film to the core. People messaging their appreciations through whatsapp and they are recommending their friends and family members to watch the film.

Everyone in the trade is happy with the box office result, what more can we ask for?
But few critics have said that the film is preachy…
I could have made Pasanga 2 as a documentary or an award winning film and I’m capable of doing it but the message wouldn’t have reached to large number of audiences.

Also, as a filmmaker, I always want to eradicate the worries of laymen by providing wholesome entertainment along with a strong message.May be after a week, people might forget what has been told in Pasanga 2 but there would be a slight impact.

Today, audiences are giving standing ovation for Pasanga 2 and I’m sure that it won’t be happening for Idhu Namma Aalu or Kathakali. The reason behind doing such children films is the satisfaction, which we get by conveying an important message to the society.

Producer Suriya’s comment after watching the film…
Suriya sir is delighted with the response he is getting from his fans and family members. I was told that Sivakumar sir moved to tears while Suriya’s mother gave a standing ovation. Suriya has told me that his mom had never reacted this much in her life but Pasanga 2 has deeply moved her.

Suriya has also told me about how Jo felt for missing Pasanga 2 as she loved the way Amala Paul’s character got portrayed.

About Idhu Namma Aalu…
I’m sure that Idhu Namma Aalu will be a huge hit. The film has strong feel good factor, especially the chemistry between Simbu and Nayan will the highlight.

The film is all about phone conversations and incidents that are happening in the four months gap between Simbu and Nayanthara from their engagement to marriage. Yes, there is a slight delay over the inclusion of a song but hopefully the film’s producer T Rajendar will sort it out soon.

Kathakali…
Kathakali will be a racy thriller, we have tried to create mood like Korean movies with night effect and rains. The running time will be less than two hours and it will be completely different from my previous movies.

Again, I’m confident with the output and it will be yet another successful film in my career.

Will you be making a complete art film without commercial elements? In other words, critic friendly movies like Pasanga and not another Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga?
I still regret for making a film like Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga but it has opened a new market for me in the industry and increased my remuneration. I can continue to make award winning films but before that need to stabilize my position in the industry and for that, I’ve to give commercial hits.

When I was twenty one, my family struggled to provide proper food but now, I’m in a good position. After making some money here, I will definitely make films, which are tailor made for award functions.

What’s next?
After Kathakali, should ensure that Idhu Namma Aalu gets released within this year and only then, I can fully concentrate on my next script.

Suriya’s Pasanga 2 to be shown free for kids

Suriya’s Pasanga 2 has been declared as a sleeper hit and audiences have lapped up the entertaining film with a solid message. Produced by 2D Entertainment, Pandiraj has directed Pasanga 2 which also has special cameos by Suriya and Amala Paul.

The latest update is that the exhibitors and distributors of Pasanga 2 are arranging free shows for kids under 10 in the districts of Coimbatore, Trichy, Tirunelveli, Tanjore, Kanyakumari and South Arcot.

As the film is for kids, Suriya and distributors of Pasanga 2 want them to enjoy the film in big screens and hence, this special offer. It is a very nice gesture by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment, as more kids will come in for the show accompanied by their parents, who will willingly buy the tickets for themselves.
