"Edward J. Reed"- An Artist From Virginia

Edward J. Reed is an 81 year old World War II veteran from Virginia, who had worked as an engineer and a merchant before becoming an artist. He graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine in 1986 with minor in Arts. There after he took career in law but his physical disability forced him to give up his flourishing career in 2000. He thereafter from 2001 started taking classes at The Art League School in Alexandria.  He has lost many things in life or to say time has deprived him of many things from his loved ones passing away to physical impairment. He says, “For me, this painting is about dignity in the face of loss and isolation”. He further adds, “Few paintings, no matter how beautifully crafted, captivate me unless they contain a strong central idea,” Unlike many classical artist, Edward avoid grisailles. According to him from the very first stroke he plunges in meaning colorful stroke.
