Kanchana 2-Audio review

Cast: Lawrence,Taapsee,Nithya Menon,Pooja,Kovai Sarala
Music: Leon James,Sathya,Thaman,Ashwamithra
Direction: Lawrence

‘Kanchana 2’ is the third installment in the Ragava Lawrence’s Muni franchise. Although supposed to have Anirudh Ravichander as the music composer, due to last minute changes the album now boasts of four different composers. Let us see how the album has turned out:

Sandi Muni
Singers: Haricharan
‘Sandi Muni’ is a loud,old-fashioned tune which has the flavor of the 90’s. Haricharan tries to overdo the emotions that the track tries to convey and an uninspiring tune is not helping his cause either. The veenai segment in the track is a silver lining amongst a loud tune.

Vaaya Veera
Singers: Shakthisree Gopalan
The best track of the album! Time and again, Shakthisree Gopalan delivers a rendition worthy of a gem and ‘Vaaya Veera’ is no exception. The whole track has a soothing attribute about it and stands out as a gold dust among a bunch of uninspiring tracks. Leon James makes an impressive debut and the chorus female singing during the interludes has a touch of class.

Sillatta Pillata
Singers: Jagadeesh Kumar
Here comes a track that is tailormade for Lawrence to show off his moves. These kind of loud, fast paced, low lyric value numbers were a part of Kanchana as well. ‘Sillatta Pillata’ does not have a ‘sing along’ quality and sounds merely capable of entertaining audience through dance movements alone.

Motta Paiya
Singers: Chitra,Sooraj Santhosh
‘Motta Paiya’ is Thaman’s contribution to this soundtrack and the track indeed comes off as one of the better ones in the album. The beats are easy on the ears majorly supported by a hand drum and Chithra’s vocals. A decent listen!

Moda Moda
Singers: Master Sriram Roshan
‘Moda Moda’ is composer Ashwamithra’s take on gaana which is performed by Master Sriram Roshan. The template kuthu beats and the over ambitious singing by the kid makes this track less than tolerable. Not to mention those random eery arrangements in the background. It will be interesting to see how this track is picturized though.

On the whole, ‘Kanchana 2’ gets saved by two slow paced tracks. Although not musically nourishing, the album does have two more fast paced tracks for the fans of Lawrence where he is all set to showcase his moves.

'Kanchana 2' releasing big on April 17

Raghavendra Lawrence choreographer, actor and director loves to play the ghost. All his horror comedies – Muni, Muni 2 have worked big time at the box-office. Now he is back with another horror comedy Kanchana 2.

He has directed and played hero once again in Kanchana 2 , with Taapsee playing the heroine. It also has his favourite Kovai Sarala playing his mother, Jayaprakash as the villain along with regulars like Manobala, Myilsamy and Sriman.

There is a huge buzz around the film as his last horror comedy Muni 2, was a blockbuster. Kanchana 2 is a bilingual in Tamil and Telugu and is distributed in Tamil Nadu  by Sun Pictures through Thenandal Films and releasing on April 17.

Superstar Rajinikanth congratulated Lawrence on his look in the film. The look and feel of the film has created a lot of curiosity around Lawrence’s characterisation and his punch lines in teaser is already popular.

Thenandal Films has already got 375 screens in TN for Kanchana 2. The advance booking is very good, with Abirami in Chennai city alone selling nearly 10,000 tickets before release!

Kanchana 2 is going to take a gargantuan opening and has potential to emerge as a big winner at the box-office.

Kanchana 2 Movie Review

Director: Raghava Lawrence
Cast: Raghava Lawrence, Taapsee
Producer: Bellamkonda Suresh

Raghavendra Lawrence choreographer, actor and director has always played to the galleries. His films have the same template, targeted at the mass audiences and are packaged to give them maximum entertainment.

He is the darling of the trade as his films have all ingredients that attract the common man. In fact the former choreographer is credited with making the horror-comedy genre popular in Tamil through his Muni franchise movies.

The 2 hour 43 minutes Kanchana 2 is no different from his earlier horror comedies, with almost same supporting cast of Kovai Sarala, Manobala, Sriman and others. The formula is the same- mix crass comedy with lots of horror, dead person's spirit getting into hero/heroine body, slapstick humour, glamour, melodrama, ladies sentiments, fight scenes  and ultimately the good ghost triumphing over the bad ghost! Add five songs, haunted house, scream and wailing sounds it works .

Raghava (Lawrence) who always fear to watch horror movies, takes his mom (Kovai Sarala) to the loo as he has Nyctophobia and whenever he feels the extreme shock, he sits on the lap of woman next to him. Yes, the pattern has been retained in Kanchana 2 except for the fact that he appoints a watchman inside the rest room so that he doesn't need his mother's help. Raghava is a cinematographer for a TV channel and he loves Taapsee who wants to shoot a fake ghost-haunted house so that the TRP rating will increase. To their misfortune, they actually get haunted by not one but five ghosts. Now again the director has reused the Muni template here, as the ghosts want to take revenge against someone who ruined their life and dreams.

Performance wise, Taapsee is a revelation and has given a solid performance in the film, especially the scenes where she transforms into ghost Ganga is terrific. Lawrence has put his heart and soul to be versatile, the scene where he transforms into a small child, old woman, transgender and Motta Siva will sure get applause from the masses. Nithya Menon as the physically challenged Ganga is adequate while the rest of the actors like Kovai Sarala, Manobala and Sriman are in charge of comedy.

Vaada Veera from Leon James is the pick of all the songs in the movie and the visuals are equally good. Technically, the team could have concentrated on the VFX work given the time this film took to be made. On the whole, Kanchana-2 is for the masses who are looking for some entertainment this holiday season.

'Kanchana 2'-Unstoppable at box-office

Raghava Lawrence’s Kanchana 2 is unstoppable at the Tamil Nadu box office and according to trade sources, the film has grossed approximately 40 crores in its first ten days which is on par with some of the successful films of top heroes in Tamil cinema.
