The winding streets and cobblestone paths offer a one-of-a-time feel of the town's pleasant appeal, while the tremendous natural scenery of the surroundings show a glimpse of the idyllic beauty of Brittany, France. The Citadel of the Old Town is the historic core of Saint Malo and a key attraction to all tourists who flock to the commune. The fortress has sensational fortifications and was built as a stronghold for control over the local maritime and trade. The salty harbour gives an excellent sightseeing experience for both pedestrians and enthusiasts, willing to hire a boat ride. Last, but not least, Saint Malo is noted for the great bite restaurants and eateries that are all over the township and have some of the tastiest seafood specialities in all of north-western France.

4. Saumur
Of all the bourgeois towns in Western France, Saumur stands as the most dandyish and exclusive. Set between the rivers Loire and Thouet, the commune is enclosed by extensive vineyards and is home to some of the finest French wineries. A walking tour of the city's interior presents a visual feast of compelling design, as many pretentious town houses are crammed along the riverside and the sizeable mid-stream island. The buildings have a particular splendour, as most are constructed, using the beauteous, yet frail Tuffeau stone. Amongst the most remarkable places of interests is the magisterial Chateau, rising proudly over Saumur. Besides the intense bourgeois influence and rich historical background, the town has a strong military influence that dates back more than two and a half centuries. Here, travellers can see the French Cavalry Academy, together with the tank museum Musée des Blindés and other memorials with military affiliation.

9. Pau, Pyrenees-Atlantiques
Pau has long served a role in the royal rule of France as it has strong links to royalties like Marie Antoinette and Napoleon. The enchanting nature and quiescent setting are just two of the many perks that make the area irresistible to visitors. The unique architecture of the buildings has a melange of medieval, Renaissance and second Empire traits, best exemplified in the famous Chateau de Pau. The fortress was the birthplace of King Henry IV and has an astounding interior with a splendid collection of tapestries, rich décors and ornaments, as well as some interesting items from the monarch's childhood. The town is an excellent choice for nature enthusiasts, as it presents one of the prettiest scenic walking tracks and railway that reveal a spectacular view of the whole encompassing terrain. Pau's appeal has been esteemed by many since old times and, not surprisingly, the poet Alphonse de Lamartine exclaimed that "Pau has the world's most beautiful view of the earth just as Naples has the most beautiful view of the sea".
