Heartburn is a burning sensation in the chest that can extend to the neck, throat, and face. It usually occurs after eating and is worsened by bending, lifting, or lying down. In medical terms it is known as PYROSIS. Read which food causes PYROSIS and how you can avoid them.
All of us experience heartburn occasionally, but frequently occurring heartburn is a symptom of Acid Reflux Disease, which if left untreated can damage the lining of the esophagus.
Many things can cause heartburn, including Asthma, most of the time it can be pinned down to certain heartburn foods. I have complied a list of the most common heartburn food triggers and what you may be able to do to keep noshing on the good stuff.
ALCOHOL.
Alcohol not only increases stomach acidity but it can also make the esophagus even more sensitive. This eventually makes the heart burn even more severe. All of the varieties of alcohol known, read wine is perhaps the worst offender when it comes to heartburn foods. Whisky, Vodka, bear area also bad. So next time you are enjoying that drink please note it might cause trouble late night, dilute it with water.
CITRUS FRUITS.
Tomatoes, grapes, lemons, and oranges have high acidic content. This may be a problem for your esophagus comfort. This happens because foodstuffs high in acidic content increases the levels of stomach acid and in turn add up with the esophagus, turning the health-food into heartburn food.
FATTY FOOD.
Processed meat tastes great when having but they are also sources of complex fat and high starch content which are indirectly linked to heartburn. Other fatty foods like cheese, burgers and fries also fall under the same league.
SPICY GOOD.
It is still a matter of debate whether spicy food leads to heartburn or not. However, many believe they do act as a trigger, especially for those who are not used to having spicy food. Some heat-laden foodstuffs are high on acidic content. However experts say that once you are used to spicy food, it should not be a problem.
SAUCES.
Sauces like gravy, salad dressings and butter-heavy pasta sauces are high in fat. Again, like in the case of fatty foods, they slow down your digestions process and are sources of heartburn. By habit if you come to observe that they are causing heartburn, avoid them. Instead, choose low-fat sauces and dressing.
CAFFEINE.
Coffee can relax the lower esophagus, which again causes acid backup and case of heartburn. If you find coffee is the culprit for your heartburn it is time to shift to green tea.
