A Dog Named Faith

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in 2002. He was born with 2 legs.  He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother didn’t want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive and was thinking of “putting him to sleep.” But then, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She became determined to teach and train this little dog to walk by himself.  She named him ‘Faith’.

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfboard to let him feel the movement. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him for standing up and jumping around. Even the other dog at home encouraged him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his hind legs and to jump to move forward. After further training in the snow, he could now walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he attracts people to him. He is fast becoming famous on the international scene and has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows. There is now a book entitled ‘With a Little Faith’ being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellew has  given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul.

Sudha Chandran An Orthopaedically Handicapped Dancer & Actress!

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ffreshinspirations.files.wordpress.com%2F2010%2F05%2Fsudha-chandran.jpg&hash=d3747f01f3eef9354c517b350a2f001b0c4ee506)

Despite amputation of one leg, Sudha Chandran has established herself in the film line and got a reputation as an ace dancer and actress. She was born into a Tamil family in 1964. Her father K.D. Chandran was an employee of the American Centre in Mumbai. Mrs. Thangam and Sudha’s father were lovers of art hence since childhood; Sudha was exposed to a rich cultural heritage. At the age of three, she started dancing on her own and it was then that her family decided to provide her formal education in dance.

Seeing the dedication of the child, Sudha’s father took her to a famous dance school in Mumbai ‘ Kala Sadan ‘ at the age of five. The teachers of ‘Kala Sadan’ refused to admit such a young girl but Chandran kept on persuading. He discussed the matter with the principal of that school, K.S. Ramaswamy Bhagavatar. He requested him to at least see the child dance once. The principal was surprised to see Sudha’s perform so beautifully and finally admitted her in the prestigious institution.

Sudha practiced with much zeal and dedication. The dance classes started delivering the results and she gave her first dance performance on stage at the age of eight. She continued her general education along with dance. She used to go St. Josephs Convent School where she was awarded the first prize for her first dance appearance. Her enthusiasm was increasing continuously. By the age of 17 she had presented 75 stage programmes which had all been widely appreciated.

On May 2, 1981 , Sudha was traveling in a bus to Tiruchi temple along with her parents. Suddenly at midnight a serious accident took place. Her bus collided with a truck killing the driver on the spot. Sudha was sitting two seats behind the driver. When the accident occurred, she had stretched her legs out straight. The collision was such that Sudha’s legs were stuck. Almost all the passengers were injured. Some college students who were less injured saw the noted dancer and tried to help her out. After a long struggle, they were able to pull her out but her right leg had been injured critically.

She was immediately taken to the nearest hospital. Here the doctor made a mistake. He plastered the leg. If it had been left open, the gangrene could have been prevented. After few days, Sudha noticed that the color of her skin on the leg was changing. After examination doctors concluded that, her leg had developed gangrene. In order to save her life the leg had to be amputated.

Sudha’s position was at that point in her life was like that of Eklavya, the famous archer who was asked by his guru, Dronacharya to cut his right thumb to him. It was as if destiny had confronted Sudha in the form of Dronacharya as her right leg was amputated 7 ½ inches below the knee. Sudha remained in a state of shock and for some time.

However, gradually her confidence started returning. She began walking with the help of a wooden leg and crutches. In the meanwhile, she continued her studies in Mumbai. Her father at that point of her life was a major source of motivation for her.

The circumstances that she was then placed in affected Sudha’s lifestyle for some time. She was unable to sleep for several nights. Nevertheless, she drew strength from the pain and pledged that she would become even stronger. On the advice of people, her father bought her a wheelchair but she did nor use it. Despite facing severe pain, she continuously practiced walking and one day she even went out for a movie with her friends. Now everybody was convinced that this girl would regain normalcy very shortly.

After six months since the amputation, Sudha read in a magazine that Dr. Sethi of Jaipur has started manufacturing artificial legs. The qualities of these legs were such that a man wearing the leg can work on an agricultural farm and even climb a tree. Sudha wrote to him. Meanwhile her family visited a company in the Opera House in Mumbai where they saw this artificial leg (Jaipur foot) in a showcase. Her confidence and desire for dance was again revived.

Her father took her to Jaipur where they met Dr. Sethi a specialist in artificial limbs and recipient of the Raman Magasassay Award. Dr. Sethi examined Sudha’s amputated leg and assured her that she could walk again normally. Sudha’s face brightened on hearing this. Her father informed the doctor that Sudha was a good dancer before the accident, sending him in deep thought. When Sudha inquired whether she would be able to dance with the Jaipur foot, the doctor promptly replied, “Yes, why not? When using this, a farmer can work in wet soil and climb a tree, then why can’t you dance?”

Dr. Sethi took this job as a challenge. He got a foot manufactured which was of aluminum and was very light. An arrangement was made so that the leg could rotate easily. Sudha thus returned to Mumbai with renewed vigor.

With this a new round of struggle began. First, she began to practice walking with her artificial leg. On meeting with success at this first stage, she tried to dance as well. This was however not easy. Although Dr. Sethi deputed an assistant to study Sudha’s dance and make the changes as per the requirements of dance, the changes made by the assistant could not reduce the problems. Her leg would often bleed and as the movements of the leg become faster, the pain became more severe. At the end of every dance session, when she used to see the blood, she would start losing hope. If there had been a used to see her blood and start losing hope. However, her determination did not falter and she was able to control her disappointment. She again went to meet Dr. Sethi along with her dance teacher.

By this time Dr. Sethi was highly impressed with Sudha’s will power. He seriously observed and assessed the various steps of her legs during the dance. Keeping in view the requirement of the dance, he arranged for a new leg. After fitting the leg, he declared that he had done his best and now it was Sudha’s turn.

Sudha restarted the dance practice. The problems were not yet fully over. The bleeding started again. There used to be severe pain due to friction of the skin of the amputated leg and the artificial leg. She used to bear the pain and did not allow her face to reflect her agony. Once she had mastered all the dance positions, she started to wait for an opportunity to perform on stage once again.

Finally she got the opportunity. On January 28, 1984 , she was supposed to present a dance programme along with another dancer Preeti in a hall of the “South India Welfare Society” of Mumbai. This period was quite challenging for her. This was also important because she had already been acknowledged as a proficient dancer before the accident. In addition, she had received two important awards- Nritya Mayuri from the Dance Academy and Bharatnatyam and Nav Jyoti from the Telugu Academy . Both these awards were considered outstanding in the field of dance. Now she had to maintain her reputation. She had come to the stage for the first time after the accident and the painful practice. She had self-confidence was accompanied by some apprehensions.

However, when Sudha reached the stage, she just forgot that her leg was artificial and stared dancing swiftly. People kept on staring at her without a blink. At the end of the show, the hall echoed with the sound of claps.

The programme was considered very successful. Dance reviewers appreciated the performance. Newspapers and magazine were full of descriptions, appreciation and pictures. Sudha had become a star over night. The famous Telugu film producer and publisher of ‘ Newstime ‘ and ‘Eanader ‘, Ramoji Rao, not only praised her but also decided to produce a film based on her life story. The film was titled Mayuri and was directed by A Srinivasan. The director and producer both decided to cast Sudha, herself as the protagonist.

When Sudha was offered the role, she hesitated initially and said that she was fully devoted to her dance only and that she did not have sufficient knowledge of acting, and hence she would not be able to play her role. However, they persuaded and finally Sudha began shooting for the film with much dedication. Since the story of the film was based on her life story, she did not face much difficulty in performing.

The film was a hit. Sudha’s acting won as much appreciation as her dance. Whatever people had read in the newspaper about her talent, they now saw on the silver screen. They saw her dance then the serious accident, the struggle and finally her victory. The entire film was heart rending and people were so moved that they could hardly stop their tears. The film also conveyed a message that even a disaster and can be fought and overcome.

Sudha won a special award-Silver Lotus and Rs.5,000 for her acting in this film. This award was presented by the then President of India , Gyani Zail Singh at the 33 rd National Film Festival on the recommendation of members of the jury.

On seeing the outstanding success of the film, its producer made the film in Hindi as well. This Hindi film was titled Nache Mayuri and it spread the news of her talent in the entire nation. This film easily crossed the borders of India and was watched in several countries including America and was also appreciated. With this Sudha was established as a pro actor.

At the same time, Sudha also continued her studies and got a post-graduation degree. Meanwhile her case for compensation for the accident was also going on in Madras High Court. The judgment came after 15 years and she was granted Rs. 5 lakhs as compensation in 1996. By that time, the value of the amount claimed as compensation had depreciated considerably. Nonetheless, Sudha was content that though justice had been delayed it had at least not been denied.

Sudha married the man of her dreams in 1995. Her husband, Ravi , is in the film line.

With time her contribution to dance declined but her acting performance rose. She got more work than she could handle. After acting in the films, she found that working in TV Soap Operas was more attractive and she could reach common people more quickly and frequently through this. She started accepting more TV serials and less number of films. Her performances in Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar, Chashme Badhur, Aparajita, and Young were widely appreciated.

Sudha worked in all kinds of serials: detective serials such as Commander, Marshal , etc and in children programmes like Shaktiman . Language could not become a bar for her. Her journey of acting started with Talugu films but she worked in Hindi and Tamil film as well.

With time Sudha diversified her roles, she appeared in popular count down film songs such as Avval Number , etc. She also acted in a programme called Nagme from Patna Doordarshan. Despite being Tamilian, she is able to speak Hindi clearly and fluently. Despite spending a long time in Mumbai, the local language of Mumbai could not affect her accent. She has a deep interest in Sher-O-Shayari and uses it in her TV programmes.

Sudha is progressing well and her disability has now been left far behind. She has proved to the world that despite a disability one can touch the peak of success.

Sudha Chandran inspires Polio victim to dance!

He dances on swords, nails and broken pieces of glass – he has mastered traditional Rajasthani dance forms and recently performed on television. But fame came the hard way to polio-stricken Sunil Parihar whose source of inspiration was Sudha Chandran and her movie ‘NaacheMayuri’.

‘My parents told me that I got afflicted with polio when I was nine months old. Both my feet were affected with polio till I was 12-13 years old. Then my right foot got cured but my left foot is still not absolutely fine. But I continue to dance because I am very passionate about it,’ Parihar told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The 34-year-old, who performed on Wednesday’s episode of Sony TV’s new multi-talent reality show ‘Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega’, says he couldn’t even walk properly until he was nine years old. But gradually he not only started walking but also prepared himself for a performance at an annual school function. Since then there has been no looking back.

‘When I reached class eight, I performed at my school’s annual function. I danced to Ila Arun’s ‘Resham Ka Roomal’ song which used to be very popular in schools back then. My photograph even came in the local newspaper and I was motivated to dance better,’ narrated Parihar, who is originally from Pali, Rajasthan.

He says danseuse-actress Sudha Chandran’s biopic ‘Naache Mayuri’, which he saw nearly two decades back, inspired him the most. Sudha lost one leg in an accident but she continued dancing with an artificial leg.

‘My inspiration primarily came from ‘Naache Mayuri’ which I saw 15-20 years back thanks to my school. They wanted to show handicapped children how a woman who has no leg went on to become a dancer. That struck the chord within me. I thought that if a person with no leg can dance, I can do it as well,’ he said.

Until 2004, Parihar used to only perform traditional Rajasthani folk forms such as ‘ghoomar’ and ‘bhawai’. He learnt Kathak for six months but what interested him more were people dancing on broken pieces of glass or nails while balancing several pots on their heads.

‘In 2004, I went to perform in a Rajasthan government function where I saw a man doing ‘bhawai’ on broken pieces of glass and on sharp nails. That’s when I thought of including it in my performance as well. Since then, I started performing on swords, nails, glass etc with pots on my head,’ he said.
Parihar’s performance on the TV show comprised balancing seven earthen pots on fire on his head as well as dancing on two swords. He not only impressed the judges – Annu Malek and Farah Khan – but also won Rs.10,000 and a chance to feature on the week’s grand finale Friday. He would be battling with other contestants for a Rs.500,000 prize.

If he wins, it would be a major relief for Parihar and his wife, who have been staying in Mumbai for the past five years and trying to survive. He is also hoping that Farah Khan, an acclaimed choreographer-director, would use his talent in her films.

Imagine being born without arms. No arms to wrap around someone, no hands to experience touch, or to hold another hand with. Or what about being born without legs? Having no ability to dance, walk, run, or even stand on two feet. Now put both of those scenarios together: no arms and no legs. What would you do? How would that effect your everyday life?

Meet Nick Vujicic... Born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without any medical explanation or warning, Nicholas Vujicic (pronounced Voy-a-chich) came into the world with neither arms nor legs. Having had an uneventful pregnancy and no family history to expect this condition, imagine the shock his parents felt when they saw their first born, brand new baby boy, only to find he was what the world would consider imperfect and abnormal. A limbless son was not what nurse Dushka Vujicic, and her husband Pastor Borris Vujicic had been expecting. How would their son live a normal happy life? What could he ever do or become when living with what the world would see as such a massive disability? Little did they know that this beautiful limbless baby would one day be someone who would inspire and motivate people from all walks of life, touching lives all over the world.

Throughout his childhood Nick dealt not only with the typical challenges of school and adolescence such as bullying and self-esteem issues; he also struggled with depression and loneliness as he questioned why he was different to all the other kids surrounding him; why he was the one born without arms and legs. He wondered what was the purpose behind his life, or if he even had a purpose. After a lot of frustration and feeling like the odd one out in school, at seven years of age Nick tried out some specially designed electronic arms and hands, in hopes that he would be more like the other kids. During the short trial period of the electronic arms, Nick realized that even with them, he was still unlike his peers at school, and they turned out to be much too heavy for Nick to operate, effecting his general mobility quite significantly.

As Nick grew up he learned to deal with his disability and started to be able to do more and more things on his own. He adapted to his situation and found ways to accomplish tasks that most people could only do by using their limbs, such as cleaning teeth, brushing hair, typing on a computer, swimming, playing sports, and much more. As time went by Nick began to embrace his situation and achieve greater things. In grade seven Nick was elected captain of his school and worked with the student council on various fund-raising events for local charities and disability campaigns.

According to Nick, the victory over his struggles throughout his journey, as well as his passion for life can be credited to his faith, his family, his friends and the many people he's encountered during his life who have encouraged him along the way.

After school Nick went on with further study and obtained a double bachelor degree majoring in accounting and financial planning. By the age of 19, Nick had started to fulfill his dream of encouraging others by sharing his story through motivational speaking. He found the purpose of his existence, and also the purpose in his circumstance. Nick wholeheartedly believes that there is a purpose in each of the struggles we encounter in our lives and that our attitude towards those struggles that can be the single most effective factor in overcoming them.

In 2005, Nick was nominated for the "Young Australian of the Year" Award, which is a large honor in Australia. The award honors a young person for their excellence and service to their local community and the nation, as well as their own personal accomplishments. Nominations for this award are only given to truly inspirational people.

Now at 27 years old, this limbless young man has accomplished more than most people even twice his age. Nick recently made the massive move from Brisbane, Australia to California, USA, where he is the president of an international non-profit organization, and also has his own motivational speaking company; Attitude Is Altitude. Since his first motivational speaking engagement back when he was 19, Nick has traveled around the world, sharing his story with millions of people, speaking to a range of different groups such as students, teachers, youth, business men and women, entrepreneurs, and church congregations of all sizes. He has also told his story and been interviewed on various televised programs worldwide. However, Nick's speaking engagements have gone beyond purely motivational speaking, he has had the opportunity to speak with several leaders, including the vice president of Kenya. This year alone Nick is set to speak in over 20 countries.

People ask Nick, "How can you smile?" Then they realize there's got to be something more to life than meets the eye if a guy without arms and legs is living a fuller life.

Nick shares with his audiences the importance of vision and dreaming big. Using his own experiences in worldwide outreach as examples, he challenges others to examine their perspective and look beyond their circumstances. He shares his view of ceasing to see obstacles as problems, but instead begin to see them as opportunities to grow and reach out to others. He stresses the importance of how attitude can be the most powerful tool we have at our disposal and illustrates how the choices we make can have a profound effect on our lives and the lives of those around us. Nick shows through his own life that the major keys in fulfilling our biggest dreams are persistence and choosing to embrace failure as a learning experience, rather than allowing the guilt and fear of failure to paralyze us.

How does Nick Vujicic feel about his disability now? He accepts it, embraces it and oftentimes pokes fun at his own circumstance as he shows off his many tricks. He meets challenges with his special blend of humor, perseverance and faith always encouraging those around him to examine their perspective as they develop and define their vision. Using those new definitions he challenges each person he meets to make changes in their lives so that they can begin the path to fulfilling their biggest dreams. Through his amazing ability to connect with people from all walks of life and his incredible sense of humor he captivates children, teens and adults alike, Nick is a true inspirational and motivational speaker.

Elizabeth "Liz" Murray (born September 23, 1980) is an American inspirational speaker who is best known as having been homeless in her youth, and as having overcome her hardship to achieve success.

Murray was born in the Bronx, New York on September 23, 1980 to poor, and drug-addicted parents who would later each contract HIV. She became homeless just after she turned 15, when her mother died of AIDS, and her father moved to a homeless shelter. Murray fought through some incredibly difficult circumstances and was finally able to turn her life around when she began attending the Humanities Preparatory Academy in Chelsea, Manhattan.

Though she started high school later than most students, and remained without a stable home while supporting herself and her sister, Murray graduated in only two years. She was awarded a New York Times scholarship for needy students and was accepted into Harvard University, matriculating in the fall semester of 2000. Murray ultimately finished college at Sarah Lawrence, unable to cope with the quality of the people she met at Harvard. According to her book Breaking Night, her older sister, Lisa, graduated from Purchase College in New York State and is a school teacher for autistic children.

In late 2006, her father died of AIDS. She eventually returned to Harvard in 2006 and graduated in June 2009. As of August 2009, she began taking graduate courses at Harvard Summer School and would like to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology to counsel people from all walks of life. She is the founder and director of Manifest Living, a company that provides a series of workshops that empower adults to create the extraordinary things in their lives. A made-for-TV film about Murray's life Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story, was released in 2003. Liz Murray's New York Times (USA) & Sunday Times (UK) bestselling memoir "Breaking Night" was released in September 2010.

Jessica Cox

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.candoability.com.au%2Fimages%2FJessica%2520Cox2.jpg&hash=f8c869537015c857f5e6d5134e4cbb717f6d5303)

Jessica Cox, who was born in the early 80’s, has become the first woman in history to fly a plane, without arms.

Jessica was born with an unexplained birth defect, which resulted in her missing both of her arms. But this never stopped her from doing anything.

Jessica’s role model is her mother, and Jessica says ‘my father never shed a tear since I my birth, as he does not consider me to be a victim’.

Jessica’s always lived life to the fullest, and before learning to fly an aeroplane, she was involved in gymnastics, dancing and singing as a child. Then, she went onto swimming, surfing, driving a car, putting her own petrol in, playing the piano and even earning her black belt in Tai Quan Do.

After graduating from college in Arizona in 2005, where Jessica gained her degree in Psychology, she decided to overcome a fear of flying that she once had, and began to learn how to fly a plane.

Jessica is now a fully fledged pilot, who has a great sense of humour too. One mother’s day, she flew a plane with a banner attached to it reading ‘Look Mom, without arms!’

Jessica has the same insecurities that any young woman would have, such as body image and dating. The main thing that Jessica was concerned with, was not that she was born without arms, but of what people’s perceptions of her were. She says, ‘everywhere I go, I will be watched – walking in a store, eating at a restaurant, taking notes in a college lecture hall, pumping gas into my car – everywhere, eyes will be on me’.

Despite people’s perceptions, Jessica seems to cope through life and her insecurities quite well, she is now an Inspirational Speaker, who empowers others to live their lives to the full, just as she has. You can learn more about her through her website – www.rightfooted.com

Born with a rare genetic disorder known as Sacral Agenesis, Rose had severely deformed legs with feet pointing in opposite directions. There was no feeling in the legs and, as a child, she was in danger of harming herself. When she was two years old her mother, after consulting with the doctors at the hospital, decided that the best course of action was to have the legs amputated. This insightful decision by her mother allowed Rose to lead a fairly normal childhood.

Rose grew up, with her mentally handicapped brother, in Pueblo, Colorado. Rose believes her parents made the right choice as she cannot imagine being confined to a wheelchair. She describes her physical condition in her own way "If you take a Barbie doll and remove it's legs, the region you are left with is what I have. I have all the female working organs, the only reason I sit shorter or more compact, as people say, is because I'm missing four sections of my spinal column".

Rose's great passion in life is cars. All things automotive, cars, trucks and V-8 engines have been a big part of her life since she started playing with her father's toolbox at the age of 3. When she was sixteen, her parents bought her a car. A used car which Rose and her father adapted with hand controls so that Rose was able to drive herself around. She is rebuilding a 1968 Mustang which she plans to race.

For years, the administrators at the local school forced Rose to wear artificial legs, they wanted her to look like everybody else. When she was in eighth grade she rebelled and refused to wear her prosthetic limbs, turning up for school on her skateboard. She wanted to be normal, and her normal is Rose who walks on her hands and has no legs. After meeting with her parents who were being very supportive, and realising that Rose was very stubborn, the school relented and allowed her to return, without her prosthetics.

In 1997 Rose met Dave Siggins who worked in an auto-parts store, they flirted over the phone and their relationship quickly blossomed, but it was going to put Rose's life in danger. When they decided to get married, Dave joked with her that she didn't have to worry about getting cold feet. Rose and Dave were married in 1999, it was her dream come true. It was a traditional white wedding and Dave, still joking, pointed out that the cake was bigger than she was. Rose and Dave lead a normal sex life, the only comment Dave has made are that the legs don't get in the way.

Two years into their relationship, Rose discovered that she was pregnant. Rose's pregnancy was extraordinary and ground-breaking, no-one with Sacral Agenesis had ever given birth. The only doctor who didn't advise Rose to have an abortion was Dr. Wilson who says "This couple have committed themselves to a pregnancy and she is, basically, laying her life on the line because nobody knows what this means, no-one has lived this experience before. With the first counselling with Rose and David I was very specific and told them that they have to know that if they move forward with this that she could die." The main concerns were with her lungs being compressed, as the baby was likely to grow up the way because of her short stature. The other concern was how she would tolerate a caesarean delivery, because the baby was lying transversely she would have to be opened across the top, a true 19th century caesarean delivery. Rose told her mum that if there were any complications and there was a choice between her life and the baby's, she should choose the baby.

Having given birth to a miracle baby, Rose was about to experience a terrible tragedy. Luke had just celebrated his second birthday when Rose's mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She held the family together, provided an emotional pillar, and organised the vital day-to-day running of the house. Her death had a disastrous effect on everyone around her. Rose's father had already had the onset of Alzheimer's and dementia so he, like her brother, didn't understand what was happening. It became apparent that Rose was next in line to run the family and do everything her mother had done. As well as looking after her son and husband, Rose now cares for her dad and brother. Rose's dad, James, has smoked all his life and now has to rely on a constant supply of oxygen. He is also suffering from schizophrenia and the onset of Alzheimer's.

Rose has great moral strength and a remarkable attitude she says "A lot of people with disabilities feel that life owes them something, and I was raised in a way that no, no-one owes you a dime. The world doesn't owe you anything, this is what you have and you use your resources and you get through life. My personal opinion is, get up and go for it, just do it."

Rose's story as a woman who has overcome bewildering obstacles and succeeded despite seemingly impossible odds is a real life example of the American dream. However, away from the limelight and behind a determined self-assurance there's another side to Rose. With the usual day-to-day problems and the added stress of Jimmy's erratic behaviour Rose is feeling the strain.

She takes refuge in the garage where she can oversee the installation of a new V-8 engine in her Mustang. At last after weeks of hard work Rose feels the Mustang is ready to hit the race track, which will be another life-long ambition achieved.

Incredibly, despite the risks involved, Rose has had a second baby..!

This MAN is a HERO !!!!.

It's a feat most able-bodied people would struggle to achieve -
scaling one of the highest peaks on the planet.
Spencer West managed it using just his hands.
The 31-year-old, from Toronto, Canada - who lost his legs when he was
just five years old - reached the summit of the 19,341ft high Mt. Kilimanjaro
on Monday after a slow, grueling and awe-inspiring trek.

Spencer West, celebrates at the peak of Kilimanjaro on Monday, after scaling the tallest
mountain in Africa, on his hands.

Because of the rough terrain, Mr West had to complete most of the seven-day trek on his hands,
only using a wheelchair when the ground allowed
Mr West was born with sacral agenesis, a genetic disorder that left his lower
spine poorly developed and his legs permanently crossed.
He had his legs removed below the knees at the age of three and, two-years-later,
had them amputated to below his pelvis.
Medical experts told the courageous Canadian he would never be a functioning
member of society but he has continued to defy doctors his entire life.
He trained for a year to scale the tallest peak in Africa without legs and set off
on June 12 with best friends David Johnson and Alex Meers.
The trek to the top took seven days, hiking through Tanzania's jungles,
snowfields and deserts - and Mr West was forced to make 80 per cent of the journey
on his hands, only hopping in a custom-made wheelchair when the terrain allowed.
The trio made it to the final approach on Sunday and rose the following morning
for the ascent to Uhuru Peak.
They reached the top at 11.15am after a exhausting seven hour hike.

Mr West's hands were left bloodied and bruised after the trek, but insists the pain and
discomfort were 'worth it'
Only 50 per cent of people who attempt to scale the mountain make it to the top - and
Mr West described the moment he reached the summit as 'incredible'.
He said: 'The summit sign seemed almost like a mirage.
'We looked around and realised that, after seven grueling days of relentless climbing,
after 20,000 feet of our blood, sweat, tears and vomit we had actually made it.
'The bleeding fingers and blisters were all worth it.'
He added: 'I set out to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro not only to redefine what's
possible for me, but to inspire others to overcome obstacles and challenges
of their own, and to give back to communities, that need our help.
'Reaching the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro was the most mentally and physically
challenging thing I have ever done, but in doing so, it reinforced the powerful
message behind believing in yourself, and believing in others.
'So many people made this journey possible for me and I am so humbled
by everyone's support.'
His incredible feat has raised more than £300,000 for Free The Children,
a charity which brings sustainable to thousands of Kenyans experiencing drought.

Joby Mathew, 33, is a World Champion athlete from Kerala, India who suffers with proximal femoral focal deficiency which left him with deformed hips and stunted legs, and a height of 3 1/2 feet. The wrestler, is proving that you can still achieve a lot despite being disabled – crushing his opponents with no disabilities – he won the World Arm Wrestling title in Spain in 2008!

Stunningly, the father-of-one has so far made it onto five world podiums during his career.

“I don’t care about the distance or the other impossibilities. I just want to participate in as many events as I can and win medals,’’ says Joby.

Apart from his bagful of medals, Joby is also well qualified. He has an LLB degree and is working as a PRO of the social work wing at the Rajagiri College of Social Sciences at Kalamassery near Kochi. But his first love is definitely locking arms with people and defeating them. And all his efforts are geared for the forthcoming World Championships.

Recently, Joby has been focusing on the London Paralympics 2012, since he was selected. Until now, he is the only player to be selected from the State for the event.

“I am participating in swimming and wheelchair fencing. I have been training for the past few months to improve my performance.’’

Dog Sits By Owner's Grave For Six Years

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F2.bp.blogspot.com%2F-VEUOV48LvVI%2FUFSUzXZbjDI%2FAAAAAAAA2Lw%2FxSqQuth2Umc%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B001.jpg&hash=86e067acc41ae2dbe4235ba77dff2f491b75a86c)

An Argentinean dog has spent the past six years proving that he is `a man’s best friend`, even though that man is dead, it has been revealed.  Capitan, a mutt who is some parts German Shepard, disappeared from his home in the small town of Villa Carlos Paz in the centre of Argentina following the death of his owner, Miguel Guzman, in March of 2006. For days, nobody in Guzman’s family noticed the absence of the dog until the family visited Miguel’s grave at a municipal cemetery.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-ahVcUGbpqN0%2FUFSU1DFdoiI%2FAAAAAAAA2L4%2FomGK8hLq1fU%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B002.jpg&hash=ba0ad346e2ab0bedcc8cb104047af27f7100eb6d)

“Damian started to shout that it was Capitan and the dog came toward us barking, as if he were crying,” the New York Daily News quoted Guzman’s wife, Veronica Moreno, as telling the La Voz del Interior. Capitan didn’t impress Moreno but seeing how faithful he has been changed her mind.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-nZZgpexyhBA%2FUFSU3W4VMVI%2FAAAAAAAA2MA%2Fmb09fZ8AMuI%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B003.jpg&hash=2f2fd3a001e16ab2887ff0afd5e4f825590c029b)

Even though the family called to the dog, he stayed by his master’s grave.

What surprised them was that Miguel had passed away in a hospital in the city and his body was taken to a funeral home far away from their residence and none of the family members recalled the dog following them to the cemetery before.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-My3YMiOJo8A%2FUFSU6BPpbiI%2FAAAAAAAA2MI%2FCasumpxpGEk%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B004.jpg&hash=c8bd9ea11277a67ca0b5cac40b331202941d6145)

“The next Sunday we went to visit Miguel’s grave and the dog was there. This time he followed us when we returned, because we had walked. He stayed with us at home for a while but later went back to the cemetery,” Veronica said.

Captain has made that cemetery his home for the past six years.

Veronica revealed that she didn’t really like the dog when he was living with her and even when he was brought home as a gift, the woman thought he would cause too much extra housework.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-KA8Jzc3LOO8%2FUFSU8VoKB9I%2FAAAAAAAA2MQ%2FMtyhFNqy0NU%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B005.jpg&hash=130d28f6cf60a3a6dcbd2ad9bebcdbfd3f7e341a)

But now that she’s seen the dog stand so loyally by her husband’s grave, she says she views the mutt more sympathetically.

Additionally, the municipal cemetery’s director, Hector Baccega, said that the dog has a special sense for Miguel and a very particular schedule.

The first time Baccega saw the dog, he arrived at the cemetery alone. The dog then did a couple of laps around the place before finding his master’s grave — all on his own.

“And that’s not all,” Baccega said.

“Every day, at six in the evening, he lies in the front of (Miguel’s) grave,” he said.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-CuW-21CwpVs%2FUFSU-W3-GqI%2FAAAAAAAA2MY%2FM6re_s-BH8s%2Fs1600%2FDog%2BSix%2BYears%2BLiving%2Bon%2Bthe%2Btomb%2BOwner%2B-%2B006.jpg&hash=ccc49d9b660708491cb26ecde1a4e8ceef472bf6)

Capitan vanished from his new home to be with his dead owner and even though the dog’s other owner, Damian, fondly remembers receiving him as a puppy when he was a kid, he sais he’s fine with Capitan’s new living arrangements.

“If he wants to stay there, it’s fine that he remains: he’s taking care of my dad,” Damian said.

The person you are seeing in this picture is Anand kumar , A mathematician from Patna, Bihar

He developed an indomitable affection and love towards mathematics and possesses exceptional mathematical abilities. His role model is great Indian mathematician “Ramanujan”. During graduation, He submitted papers on Number Theory, which were published in Mathematical Spectrum and The Mathematical Gazette. He worked hard and dreamed of getting into one of the world’s best university “Cambridge”. And one day he got it, admission to Cambridge.
But…
Very soon he realized that his father cannot afford his education at Cambridge. He and his father searched helplessly for a sponsor all over India but nobody came up. And one day his family’s only breadwinner: his father died and his last hope of getting good education diminished. He gave up the dream of Cambridge and came back to his home in Patna, Bihar.
He would work on Mathematics during day time and would sell papads in evenings with his mother, who had started a small business from home, to support her family. He also tutored students in maths to earn extra money. Since Patna University library did not have foreign journals, for his own study, he would travel every weekend on a six-hour train journey to Varanasi, where his younger brother, learning violin under N. Rajam, had a hostel room. Thus he would spend Saturday and Sunday at the Central Library, BHU and return to Patna on Monday morning.

He rented a classroom for Rs 500 a month, and began his own institute, the Ramanujam School of Mathematics (RSM). Within the space of year, his class grew from two students to thirty-six, and after three years there were almost 500 students enrolled. Then in early 2000, when a poor student came to him seeking coaching for IIT-JEE, who couldn’t afford the annual admission fee due to poverty, Kumar was motivated to start the Super 30 program in 2003, for which he is now well-known.

Every year in August, since 2003, the Ramanujan School of Mathematics, now a trust, holds a competitive test to select 30 students for the ‘Super 30’ scheme. About 4,000 to 5,000 students appear at the test, and eventually he takes thirty intelligent students from economically backward sections which included beggars, hawkers, auto-driver’s children, tutors them, and provides study materials and lodging for a year. He prepares them for the Joint Entrance Examination for the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT). His mother, Jayanti Devi, cooks for the students, and his brother Pranav Kumar takes care of the management.

Out of 270 students he tutored from 2002-2011 236 students have made an admission to IIT. All of them came so poor background that their parents were Hawkers, Auto-drivers, laborer etc.
During 2003-2009, 182 students out of 210 have made it to the IITs.
In 2010, all the students of Super 30 cleared IIT JEE entrance making it a three in a row for the institution.
Anand Kumar has no financial support for Super 30 from any government as well as private agencies, and manages on the tuition fee he earns from the Ramanujam Institute. After the success of Super 30 and its growing popularity, he got many offers from the private – both national and international companies – as well as the government for financial help, but he always refused it. He wanted to sustain Super 30 through his own efforts. After three consecutive 30/30 results in 2008-2010, in 2011, 24 of the 30 students cleared IIT JEE.

Anand’s work is now well received from all over the world :

USA’s president obama read about Anand in TIME magazine and sent a special envoy to check the work done by him and offered all the assistance and Anand never accepts help irrespective of helper.

Discovery Channel broadcast a one-hour-long program on Super 30, and half a page has been devoted to Kumar in The New York Times.

Actress and ex-Miss Japan Norika Fujiwara visited Patna to make a documentary on Anand’s initiatives.

Kumar has been featured in programmes by the BBC.

He has spoken about his experiences at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Kumar is in the Limca Book of Records (2009) for his contribution in helping poor students crack IIT-JEE by providing them free coaching.

Time Magazine has selected mathematician Anand Kumar’s school – Super 30 – in the list of Best of Asia 2010.

Anand Kumar was awarded the S. Ramanujan Award for 2010 by the Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS) in July 2010.

Super 30 received praise from United States President Barack Obama’s special envoy Rashad Hussain, who termed it the “best” institute in the country. Newsweek Magazine has taken note of the initiative of mathematician Anand Kumar’s Super 30 and included his school in the list of four most innovative schools in the world.
Anand Kumar has been awarded by top award of Bihar government “Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puraskar” November 2010.
He was awarded the Prof Yashwantrao Kelkar Yuva Puraskar 2010 by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in Bangalore.
In April 2011, Anand Kumar was selected by Europe’s magazine Focus as “one of the global personalities who have the ability to shape exceptionally talented people.”

The Super-Talented Armless Painter

Huang Guofu, now 42, lost both his arms in a horrible electric shock accident at the age of four, however this didn’t stop him from pursuing his dreams. Instead, at the age of 12, he began painting with his feet.

When Huang reached adulthood, his father got ill. In order to pay for the treatments, he had to quit school and decided to become a professional painter. At first, Huang tried selling his paintings in the streets, but he soon learned that his paintings lacked elegance and many people bought his work just out of sympathy. That didn’t stop him either. He put a brush in his mouth and taught himself to paint with more detail.

“When life closes one door to you, it must have opened another at the same time. I want to let the younger generation know that there are no real obstacles in life. The only obstacle is if you want to do it,” says Huang.

Last year, at the age of 41, he was appointed the vice-curator of Chonqing Talents Museum for his never-give-up spirit and artistic achievements.

Millionaire Cleans Streets to Set Example for Her Children

In the 1980s, Yu Youzhen was merely an ordinary vegetable farmer in Wuhan City Hongshan District Donghu Village Huojiawa who, after years of building and additions, came to possess three 5-storey private buildings, most of which were rented out. In 2008, Yu Youzhen chanced upon [government policies for] the requisition, demolition, and redevelopment of land [mostly takes place in rural areas, where when a peasant’s land is expropriated by the government and the peasant is compensated for it with new houses or apartments in other locations] and was successively given 21 apartments [for her previous property]. Yu Youzhen personally witnessed some of her fellow villagers not engaging themselves in decent activities after being compensated with multiple apartments, falling into gambling, and even drug use. In order to set a good example for her children, from 1998 onwards, the now landless Yu Youzhen went to Wuchang District Chengguan Bureau to work as a sanitation worker, with a 1,420 yuan monthly salary, only one day off each week, and having to arrive for work 3 every morning.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-u8un-wKU4xg%2FUQET9X32lUI%2FAAAAAAAA_jk%2F8rTbBYH0O_k%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_001.jpeg&hash=b82b051baa5e99d1a711bd73c912c9c80ce70e17)

Yu Youzhen is a contract worker for the Wuchang District Chengguan Bureau Cleaning Team, with a 1,420 yuan monthly wage. Her household had 21 apartments in total but later successively sold 4 of them, with 17 left. Calculated according to market prices, she is literally a “millionaire woman”. This picture is of January 2, in Wuhan, of “rich woman” sanitation worker Mrs. Yu cleaning the street.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-q3V6mFYsFxw%2FUQET9ub1MzI%2FAAAAAAAA_js%2FNB7PIcbYWGQ%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_002.jpeg&hash=0a784bb4de1a039b3706ec2948e1de23855562df)

Yu Youzhen is responsible for the sanitation of an approximately 3,000-meter long stretch of road, sweeping along its length back and forth 6 hours every day, wiping and washing 8 trashcans. Since it’s cold outside, a thin layer of ice forms on the surface of the trashcan that as Yu Youzhen just bent down to wipe with a wet rag.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-lWxVHA6TrIA%2FUQET9aK0imI%2FAAAAAAAA_jo%2FYw2Q0IXjnqM%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_003.jpeg&hash=739576515091a538936d33d9a7a06f5bb84d0166)

In the 1980s, Yu Youzhen was a vegetable grower in Hongshan District Donghu Village Huojiawan. She and her husband worked from dawn to night to make and save money, becoming the first family to build a 3-storey private house in Huojiawan. With more and more people coming to work in Wuhan from out of town, Yu Youzhen used the spare rooms for rental. By the early 1990s, each room could bring in 50 yuan each month. After saving this money, she built more buildings and added more floors, and over several years, she had three 5-storey buildings, most of which used for rentals. She said that during those years, the regulations on constructing buildings in rural areas were loose, and everyone built houses. What she didn’t expect was that in 2008, the [policies of] requisitioning and redevelopment of land began, and she was successively given 21 apartments [as compensation for her requisitioned and redeveloped buildings]. Later on, she sold 4 of them.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-8BktaEmN_E4%2FUQET-Lvv9zI%2FAAAAAAAA_jw%2FuiymybbK1rA%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_004.jpeg&hash=bae2a9ab0d356ae80a0c2049b96925e9a6d77699)

From 1998 onwards, the now landless Yu Youzhen went to the Wuchang District Chengguan Bureau to work as a sanitation worker, with only one day off each week, and having to arrive for work at 3 in the morning. Although later she became a “rich woman”, she still hasn’t put down her broom. In her work, people often give her cold looks, but she still loves what she does. Many of her co-workers in the cleaning team don’t understand: “Mrs. Yu’s family is so rich, yet still she comes to put up with this suffering!” To this, Yu Youzhen has her own explanation: “I want to set an example for my son and daughter, a person can’t just sit at home and ‘eat away’ a whole fortune.”

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-pBDUZJYIbWo%2FUQET-o4KC4I%2FAAAAAAAA_j4%2F0aMnYff2llw%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_005.jpeg&hash=ece1493bd9cc665515999635016be919c1f0b61f)

Yu Youzhen witnessed with her own eyes some of her fellow villagers getting up to no good after getting multiple apartments from their land being requisitioned [by the government], indulging themselves in gambling, even drug use. She has already put the word out to her son and daughter: “If you don’t work, I’ll donate the apartments to the country.”

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-bPdF74Rjmhs%2FUQET-_5woGI%2FAAAAAAAA_j8%2FPxl2b_Coy3U%2Fs1600%2FMillionair_Cleans_Streets_006.jpg&hash=e319ea771fb8476e5aaa7b1879b70b9c55b60757)

Now, her son works as a driver in the Donghu Scenic Area, making an over 2,000 yuan monthly salary. Her daughter too is an office worker, with an over 3,000 yuan monthly salary.

Wonderful Friendship of Grandmother and Her Odd-eyed Cat

For over 13 years now, Japanese photographer Miyoko Ihara has been taking pictures of her grandmother Misao, in order to leave a living proof of the woman’s life. Eight years ago, though, Misao found a wonderful companion – an odd-eyed kitten that found his way to the shed.

The 88-year-old woman named him Fukumaru, which translated from Japanese roughly means “a circle of good fortune”. Misao and her odd-eyed feline friend have been doing everything together ever since. The woman still goes out into the fields every day, and Fukumaru follows her every step. They eat, rest, water the plants and do their chores together.

Seeing that the strong bond and love between the two shines out of every photo, Miyoko published a hard cover portrait album, called “Misao the Big Mama and Fukumaru the Cat“.

Indian girl has higher IQ than Albert Einstein..!!

London: A 12-year-old Indian-origin girl in UK has stunned everyone after she scored an incredible 162 on her IQ test — even higher than Einstein and Stephen Hawking. Neha Ramu, daughter of an Indian doctor couple, achieved a score of 162 on a Mensa IQ test — the highest score possible for her age.

The score puts the teen in the top one per cent of brightest people in the UK and means she is more intelligent than physicist Hawking and scientist Albert Einstein, who are all thought to have an IQ of 160.

"Neha scored 162 on the Cattell IIIB test, putting her within the top one per cent of people in the country," a spokesman for British Mensa said. Neha's parents lived in India before moving to Britain when their daughter was seven, 'The Telegraph' reported.

*VERY INSPIRATIONAL*
Tailor's Son Cracked the IAS Exam!

A poor youngster from the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, who overcame massive odds to emerge successful in the all-important Civil Services examinations, has proved that poverty is not an impediment to success.

Nirish Rajput (31), son of Virendra Rajput, a tailor, failed the civil service examination three times but never lost heart. The fourth time, he passed with a rank of 370 and has been selected for the Indian Administrative Service.

Nirish's story is inspiring not because he did not lose heart but also because he comes from a very poor background. He lives in a 15 by 40 feet (300 square feet) house in village Mau in Gohad tehsil of the district and worked odd jobs - even as a newspaper hawker - to realize his dream of becoming an IAS officer.

Once, Nirish went with a considerably rich and respected family friend to Uttrakhand to help them set up a coaching institute with a promise they would help him by providing material to prepare for his Civil Services examinations. But two years later, after the coaching institute started paying rich dividends, he was insulted, disgraced and literally thrown out.

"What is your worth? You are good for nothing. We no longer want you", that were the last words I heard from the members of that educated and rich family, said Nirish. "Next moment, I was jobless, homeless, penniless and remained hungry for a week, till help came to me", he narrated.

The incident changed the course of Nirish.

"I did not know how to become an IAS officer but I knew clearing the country's top examinations can change my fortune", he said, adding that poverty cannot be a hurdle if one has determination and is willing work hard.

One day Nirish left for Delhi to study. "In Delhi, I became friendly with Ankit,
who was preparing for competitive exams. I started living with him at
Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar. I did not attend any
coaching classes nor pay any hefty fees. I studied from the books and notes
of Ankit," he said.
He studied from a government school and a modest college in Gwalior. His father and two elder brothers, who are contractual teachers, started investing most of their savings, energy and courage to make Nirish's dream come true.

"It has also proved the impression that students from public schools alone can do well in these exams is a myth," he said.

The House and family

Virendra's (72) ramshackle house in a non-descript village in Bhind district has suddenly become the attraction of the entire neighborhood. Popularly known as ustaad in the village for his hand-to-hand combat style (aiming to hold the opponent down against the floor) in the Akharas, Virendra, a father of three sons and a daughter, had lived with only one dream - to give his children an education.

After the demise of Nirish's mother, it is the father who is keeping the children's spirit alive. "My father has told me not be dishearted and to reappear in the entrance exam in the next year", he added.

"Even when my mother was alive, I never saw them disgusted and heard them grumbling for poverty that has stricken our family," he said.

TULSI PROJECT – AMAZING

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forwardedemails.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2013%2F05%2Ftulsi_project.jpg&hash=4f28132adc811b3518efe3e70f8da047220daa87)

Raghu Makhwana a polio victim – : Tulsi Project -
Whenever Raghu heard about a dispute in any family, he would simply go there and gift them a Tulsi plant. The attempt was to show people a way to resolve the family differences in a peaceful manner and spread love instead of hatred.

The project received an overwhelming response from philanthropists who extended their support towards Raghu’s initiative. Till date, he has distributed over 600 Tulsi plants in various houses in Ahmedabad.

Raghu is an example to follow for all. Having lost his legs in his childhood due to polio and brought up in a slum area of Ahmedabad, Raghu had every reason to live an average life in a wheelchair.

Afterwards, Raghu took up another initiative – Tyaag nu Tiffin (Food sacrifice) – which aimed to help the underprivileged. The idea was to deliver home-cooked meals to people living on the streets. Initially, the financial aspect held him back but he quickly received funding and the plan was put into action. Once the word spread about the initiative, monetary and non-monetary help started pouring in from all directions – from NGOs to individuals to NRIs. Today, Raghu distributes about 14 tiffins daily to needy people.

Spice Jet donated an entire plane for that whole group of those slum children and young adults, including Raghu, to “fly in the air”. The popular Miss India received them at the airport, personally chatted with Raghu about life in the slums, as they were all gifted a royal tour of a big city. Even more recently, when Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former president of India, was giving a talk, he was so inspired by Raghu that he not only invited him on stage but also opened his talk with: “When I asked Raghu what is your dream in life, he said only one thing: ‘I want to see the women of India and their children smile.’ “

V.G. Jagadeesh, an old student of Amrit Centre for Special Needs

Amrit Centre for Special Needs celebrated the ‘Joy of Giving’ with a special gift to a special student

It was a special day for the students of Amrit.

V.G. Jagadeesh has over 800 friends on Facebook. He connects with at least 200 of them every day and spends most of his time on Wikipedia and YouTube. A tetraplegic, he does all this lying on his back. But thanks to Amrit Centre for Special Needs, he can now work in a sitting position. As part of the ‘Joy of Giving Week’ celebrations at Amrit, Jagadeesh was given a wheel-chair. Specially designed for him by Colonel Radhakrishnan and Colonel Venkatesh of Worth Trust, Vellore, the wheel-chair was sponsored by Dr. Madhavi Gopinath.

Twenty-one-year-old Jagadeesh is an old student of Amrit. He is so full of energy. “I like learning about new things,” he smiles. Jagadeesh is up-to-date with current affairs and is closely following the politics of our country. “I am angry,” he says, “With all the corruption.” Jagadeesh feels that only words have the power to affect a change, which is why he wants to become a writer.

A big fan of poet Vairamuthu and writer Kalki, Jagadeesh is working on a novel in Tamil. Titled Minnal Dhevadhai, it has a female protagonist. “She is bold and outspoken,” says Jagadeesh. “The novel unfolds in a college. It speaks of how the small mistakes we commit can sometimes have grave consequences. It imparts the message that youngsters should be responsible.” he adds.

Jagadeesh also helps friends, some of them much older than him, do college projects. And if any of his friends have doubts in their lessons, he is the first person they approach. He sometimes takes classes for them. “I use the Internet as reference,” he says. “I clarify doubts over phone or online chat. But I’m strict when it comes to classes.” A regular blogger, Jagadeesh says he is planning to learn French. “This is because I have friends worldwide.”

Jagadeesh also writes poetry. He recited one of his poems for us at the event. “Mounam kaadhalargalin thaimozhi; thanimayil, mounam en kadhali”. It roughly translates as: ‘Silence is the language of lovers; when I’m lonely, silence is my love’.

From 50 paise, she now earns Rs 200,000 a day.

She started her career 31 years ago as an entrepreneur, selling eateries from a mobile cart on the Marina beach amidst all odds -- battling a failed marriage, coping with her husband, a multiple addict, and taking care of two kids.

Today, she has overcome the hurdles and owns a chain of restaurants.

She married against the will of her parents. Unfortunately, the marriage failed but her parents never forgave her and she was on her own along with 2 children.

" I knew I should either succumb to the burden or fight; I decided to fight my lonely battle." she said.

She started selling pickles, squashes and jams she made at home.

Eventually she started her own cart on Marine Drive, Mumbai. On the first she just sold one cup of coffee, making 50 paise the first day. But she never lost hope and earned as high as 25,000 rs a day.

One day the Slum Clearance Board gave her an offer to run the canteen at their office with a proper kitchen. The chairman met her during her morning walk. It was a huge success. Thereafter, she never looked back.

She suffered the second shock of her life in 2004 when she lost her daughter and son-in-law in a road accident. The ambulance refused to carry their dead bodies. Finally, somebody carried all the dead bodies in the boot of a car. She couldn't bear the scene and broke down. That is when she decided to keep an ambulance on that very spot to help people whether the victims are alive or dead. It is in memory of her daughter.

Today Patricia along with her son runs the chain of restaurant 'Sandeepha' in her daughter's memory and around 200 people work under her.

She was awarded 'Ficci entrepreneur of the year' in 2010.

'Cheque' out his honesty: Rickshaw driver turns down Rs 1.9 crore bonus

He could have been a billionaire overnight, but autorickshaw driver Raju Bharwad chose honesty over a cheque of Rs 1.9 crore sent in his name by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation.

Bharwad was surprised to receive the cheque, which also had the name of his mother as the co-recipient.

The accompanying letter said the money was being given to them in lieu of 10 bigha land that they owned at Sanand near the Tata Nano plant.

At a time when complaints of violence, land-grabbing and forgery are on the rise in Sanand after the relocation of Tata Nano plant from West Bengal, Bharwad, who stays in Ahmedabad, rushed to the authorities to return the cheque.

"We did have 10 bigha land in that area but my father sold that plot for Rs 9 lakh 25 years ago. Today, several families are staying there," he said, adding that the ownership of the land was not transferred officially and had remained with Raju and his mother.

"If I had accepted the money, the authorities would have bulldozed the houses on that plot," Raju said.

He is now trying to ensure that the ownership of the land is transferred to the right owners.

"I earn about Rs 6,000 a month by driving an autorickshaw and have four bigha land," Raju said, adding that the money was sufficient.

Raju's honesty has surprised government officials, too, who said they have seen many disputes over land ownership but someone returning a cheque of such a big amount is unheard of.

An Amazing Story :-
An 87 Year Old College Student Named Rose

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know.
I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned round to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me
with a smile that lit up her entire being.
She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.
“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked.
She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…”
“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.
After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the
next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this “time machine”
as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.
Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.
At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us. She was
introduced and stepped up to the podium.
As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I’m sorry I’m so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I’ll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell
you what I know.”
As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop
playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day.
You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.
We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it!There is a huge difference between growing
older and growing up.
If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old.
If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.
Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change.
Have no regrets.
The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those
with regrets.”
She concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Rose.”
She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.
At the year’s end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died
peacefully in her sleep.
Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s
never too late to be all you can possibly be .When you finish reading this, please send this peaceful word of advice to your friends and family, they’ll really enjoy it!
These words have been passed along in loving memory of ROSE.
REMEMBER, GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY. GROWING UP IS
OPTIONAL.
We make a Living by what we get, We make a Life by what we give.

Read Aspirants - Sylvester Stallone.

This is one of the SADDEST stories ever told in Hollywood. His name is Sylvester Stallone. One of the BIGGEST and Most famous American Movie superstars. Back in the day,Stallone was a struggling actor in every definition. At some point,he got so broke that he stole his wife’s jewellery and sold it. Things got so bad that he even ended up homeless. Yes,he slept at the New York bus station for 3 days. Unable to pay rent or afford food. His lowest point came when he tried to sell his dog at the liquor store to any stranger. He didnt have money to feed the dog anymore. He sold it at $25 only. He says he walked away crying.

Two weeks later,he saw a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner and that match gave him the inspiration to write the script for the famous movie,ROCKY. He wrote the script for 20 hours! He tried to sell it and got an offer for $125,000 for the script. But he had just ONE REQUEST. He wanted to STAR in the movie. He wanted to be the MAIN ACTOR. Rocky himself. But the studio said NO. They wanted a REAL STAR.

They said he “Looked funny and talked funny”. He left with his script. Afew weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for the script. He refused. They even offered $350,000. He still refused. They wanted his movie. But NOT him. He said NO. He had to be IN THAT MOVIE.

After a while, the studio agreed, gave him $35,000 for the script and let him star in it! The rest is history! The movie won Best Picture,Best Directing and Best Film Editing at the prestigious
Oscar Awards. He was even nominated for BEST ACTOR! The Movie ROCKY was even inducted into the American National Film Registry as one of the greatest movies ever!

And do You know the first thing he bought with the $35,000? THE DOG HE SOLD. Yes,Stallone LOVED HIS DOG SO MUCH that he stood at the liquor store for 3 days waiting for the man he sold
his dog to. And on the 3rd day,he saw the man coming with the dog. Stallone explained why he sold the dog and begged for the dog back. The man refused. Stallone offered him $100. The man refused. He offered him $500. And the guy refused. Yes,he refused even $1000. And,Believe it or Not,Stallone had to pay $15,000 for the same, same dog he sold at $25 only! And he finally got his dog back!

And today, the same Stallone who slept in the streets and sold his dog JUST BECAUSE he couldnt even feed it anymore,is one of the GREATEST Movie Stars who ever walked the Earth!

Being broke is BAD. Really BAD. Have You ever had a dream? A wonderful dream? But You are too broke to implement it? Too tiny to do it? Too small to accomplish it? Damn! I’ve been there too many times!

Life is tough. Opportunities will pass you by,just because you are a NOBODY. People will want your products but NOT YOU. Its a tough world. If you aint already famous,or rich or “connected”,You will find it rough.

Doors will be shut on You. People will steal your glory and crash your hopes. You will push and push. And yet NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

And then your hopes will be crashed. You will be broke. Damn broke. You will do odd jobs for survival. You will be unable to feed yourself. And Yes,you may end up sleeping in the streets.

It happens. Yes,it does.

BUT NEVER LET THEM CRUSH THAT DREAM. Whatever happens to You,Keep Dreaming. Even when they crush your hopes,Keep Dreaming. Even when they turn you away,Keep Dreaming.

Even when they shut you down,Keep Dreaming.

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF EXCEPT YOURSELF! People will judge You by HOW you look. And by WHAT You have.

But please,Fight on! Fight for Your place in history. Fight for your glory. NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

Even if it means selling all your clothes and sleeping with the dogs,ITS OKAY! But AS LONG AS YOU ARE STILL ALIVE,Your STORY IS NOT OVER. TRUST ME.

Keep Up the Fight. Keep your dreams and hope alive. Go get it!!

A son's love: Gao Qianbo, two, helpfully chews up mother Zhang Rongxiang's food and feeds it to her mouth to mouth.

It is an achingly touching symbol of the love that binds a mother and son. A two-year-old boy chews the food of his disabled mother and feeds it to her mouth to mouth - months after she awoke from a coma to meet him for the first time. Zhang Rongxiang was pregnant with Gao Qinbao when a devastating car crash left her in a coma in Shuyang county in Jiangsu Province, China, three years ago. But moments after doctors told her husband, Gao Dejin, that she would never recover, they realised she was with child... and that the baby had miraculously survived the trauma.

Adorable: Gao Qianbo spends every day by his mother's bedside helping her eat and making her laugh.

For the next five months Gao Dejin cared for her at home until medics were able to perform a caesarean section to remove Gao Qianbo from her womb. The little boy has spent every day by his mother's bedside ever since. Then, to doctor's astonishment, she awoke to the sound of his little voice in May this year.

Helping out: To doctors' astonishment, she miraculously awoke to the sound of Gao's little voice in May this year.

While she is able to swallow, she cannot chew her food. So to avoid having to eat pureed hospital meals, she is given regular food which Gao Qianbo helpfully chews and then tenderly passes from his mouth to hers.

Struggle for survival: The family has survived mainly on government subsistence with some support from relatives and friends.

The touching display of filial devotion has been captured on camera for the first time since Zhang Rongxiang awoke from a vegetative state in May. The family has survived mainly on government subsistence with some support from relatives and friend, the Yangtze Evening Post reported.

Sylvester Stallon

Sylvester Stallone is one of the most famous American Movie stars.. With characters like Rocky and Rambo he is a household name in the hearts of millions.

During birth, a wrong gynecological procedure caused Stallone to have one sided paralysis. At school, his middle class being and his facial paralysis became a thing for others to make fun of.][

He started body-building because he wanted to frighten those who bullied him. Slowly he started thinking of a career in movies.

Around 1974, he had a pregnant wife, a dog that he loved a lot, a lot of bills to pay and no success in his movie career.

What he still had was a belief in his dream that he will make it big.

Soon a time came when he went broke. He was heavily under debt.

Restless, anxious, stressed and still loaded with hope that he WILL make it big.

Things got so bad that he had to sell his wife’s jewelry and ended up homeless. Sleeping at the New York Bus station for 3 days.

The cold American winter forced him to choose between electricity and his dog. He stood outside a local store and sold his dog for $25.

Two weeks later, on TV he watched a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner. That match was like a flash of divine inspiration… For the next 20 hours he sat and wrote the script of what today is a cult movie, ROCKY.

In the words of Stallone himself, “After nearly 1500 rejections”, he got a production house to offer $125,000 for the script.

Despite the poverty, pains, pregnant wife and lost dog… His dream was to STAR in the movie as the MAIN LEAD.

In an era when heroes were super handsome men and spoke fluently, a body builder with a facial paralysis that made him stammer while speaking, made Stallone the wrong choice for any role.

The studio bluntly rejected his offer… And Stallone went back home with another failure.

A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for the just the script, and not him.

He refused.

Soon they offered $350,000 for the script but not him.

At that time everyone was pushing him to accept.. It would be MAD not to do so.. He was making a fortune.

He still refused.

Someone in the studio really loved his script, and as fortune favors the brave.. They finally accepted to give $35,000 for the script and have him as the lead star.

The rest as they say is history!

The movie was made for $1 million and went to make around $200 million.

It won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Direction and Best Film Editing.

Stallone was a “bankable” hero for the next 20yrs, till the late 90s… with his movies making billions of dollars.

And what did he do with the first $35,000?

He stood outside the liquor store, where he sold his dog, for 3 days. Identified the man who had bought it, and finally got him back for $15,000.
AND IN THE WORDS OF ROCKY BALBOA –
“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
