Title: How Do You Wash Your Hands?
Post by: LoShiNi on August 02, 2017, 08:00:22 PM
The Number Of People Who Are Doing It Wrong Is Staggering! Make Sure You Aren’t One of Them…

Parents teach most of us to wash our hands at a very young age, but for some odd reason people tend to forget how important this simple routine is for our health.

There is a study that shows that 10 per cent of people don’t wash their hands after using public toilets, and 33 per cent of those who do don’t use soap. Shocking, isn’t it? Washing our hands properly matters, because it prevents germs from spreading and from getting inside your body. Let’s find out how to wash our hands right!

What difference does the temperature make (if any)?

There’s a widespread myth that the water has to be hot to make your hands clean. But while some of the foods require thorough thermal processing to be safe for consumption, the temperature needed to kill germs on our hands will cause severe burns. Extremely hot or freezing cold water is not very pleasant, which is why people don’t give it enough time to make their hands clean. So it’s best to wash your hands in warm water – to make the process long enough to remove the germs.

Soap vs. anti-bacterial hand wash

In years 2007 and 2015, reviews of studies found that triclosan (a chemical that was used in most anti-bacterial hand washes) wasn’t just ineffective, it was dangerous. The findings led to a ban of triclosan in hand washes in the United States and in the European Union.

How important is it to dry your hands after you’ve washed them?

It’s fine to let your hands dry on their own, as long as you don’t touch anything in the bathroom. That’s because water left on your hands makes it easier for the germs to spread.

What’s better: electric dryers or towels?

There isn’t enough conclusive evidence on this one. Some of the research that favors paper towels was sponsored by paper towel manufacturers. Drying your hands with a traditional electric hand dryer consumes too much time; jet dryers make bacteria and viruses spread across the room.

And here’s the most important finding of the research: to lather your hands thoroughly enough, you need at least 15–30 seconds. We hope that you will find this information useful and share it with others!
