Cast:    Karthi, Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran, Super Subbarayan, Kovai Sarala, Karunas, Thambi Ramaiah
Direction:    Muthaiya
Production:    K.E.Gnanavel Raja, S.R.Prakashbabu, S.R.Prabhu
Music:    G.V.Prakash Kumar

After a slew of flops Karthi made a strong comeback with ‘Madras’ directedby Pa. Ranjith. The film that scanned the lives of people living in North Chennai has become one of the highly acclaimed films of recent times and also set the cash registers ringing.

Now Karthi is getting back to his routes. The actor who debuted in Ameer’s ‘Partuhiveeran’ as a raw and rustic rural thug is acting in a complete rural subject after almost eight years in his upcoming film ‘Komban’. Although he acted as a youngster from a rural town in ‘Saguni’ the story was entirely set in Chennai and there was nothing more than a bit of dialogue accent to give the rural taste for the flick. But ‘Komban’ that is being directed by M.Muthiah is expected to give a complete feel of watching a film set in a rural background since the entire film is being shot in Ramanathapuram an interior district of south Tamilnadu. With the director who has debuted with ‘Kuttipuli’ a film set in Madurai with enormous sentiment and action factors we can be assured of a hard hitting rural flick that will satisfy family audience as well as action lovers.

Karthi gets to pair with Lakshmi Menon for the first time and Raj Kiran will be acting as his father- In -law.  Going by the young actor’s interview, the film will concentrate more on the love-hate relationship between father-in-law and son-in-law, which is a rarely explored subject in films dealing with family relations. With a powerful actor like Rajkiran doing that role, we can be assured of some emotional treat.

Karunas and Thambi Ramiyah will be providing  comic relief and G.V.Prakash is scoring the music. The young composer’s debut film ‘Veyyil’ and National award winning film ‘Aadukalam’ would speak volumes about his ability to churn out rural based melodies and folk numbers. The film produced under the Studio Green banner is progressing at a rapid pace and it is expected to hit the screens in February 2015.

Karthi's 'Komban' on April 2

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fok5jGCigggbef_small.jpg&hash=3d074d1b608b7828fadb9e20e3c1ef29ab34afbb)

Karthi's Komban is likely to be released on April 2 and sources from Studio Green have confirmed the same.

Komban also has Rajkiran, Lakshmi Menon playing important roles while Muthaiah of Kuttipuli fame is directing the film.

Though the shooting of Komban will be wrapped up soon, the makers don't want to release in March as cricket world cup and exams will be affecting the trade.

Mean time, Udhayanidhi has already confirmed that his Nanbenda will be releasing on April 2 and also Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain team is planning for April 3 release.

Karthi's 'Komban' release preponed

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fok5jGFjaebbbg_small.jpg&hash=6dff577966bb31c97107bb91950b97ecdbc67e71)

Karthi’s Komban which was earlier slated for April 2 has advanced its release date to March 27 and thus the film will have a huge advantage of full one week run in more than 400 screens across Tamil Nadu.

Directed by Muthaiah of Kuttipuli fame, Komban has Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran, Thambi Ramaiah and many others to its star cast while Studio Green has produced the film.

The audio launch of Komban will be happening on March 5 and GV Prakash has composed the music.

Trade feel the Komban’s decision of advancing the release date will definitely help the business as they can’t hold three big films releasing on the same day.

As Komban preponed its release date, the Easter weekend will have only two releases, Kamal’s Uttama Villain and Udhayanidhi’s Nanbenda.

My character in Komban is unique: Karthi

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdfpGiidghgja.jpg&hash=078eb26784f66aa64a997c5fcbb20f3e3c9d8ed9)

Yesterday, (March 5) the audio launch of Karthi’s Komban took place at Prasad labs, Chennai. Speaking at the function, Karthi said "After Paruthiveeran, I was little apprehensive in choosing a village subject because people would definitely claim that a particular dialogue or my particular expression reminds my role in Paruthiveeran but when Muthiah narrated the script of Komban it had an unique characterization".

"In Komban my character does not booze, he lives by his virtue which is contrast to the Paruthiveeran character and also I believe that the roles of seasoned actors like Rajkiran who is playing my father-in-law and Kovai Sarala who is playing a serious mom will give a different feel to the film" said Karthi at the press meet.

Speaking at the function, Rajkiran said " If Komban changes one father-in-law and son-in-law's ego clash then it would be a victory for the whole team ".

Director Muthiah has revealed that Komban is based on the real life incident which is happened between his father and grandfather. Muthiah said “Though Kuttipuli was a hit, media cited many flaws in the film and I have tried to rectify it in Komban which will be a lively film on human emotions and family values".

Karunas who is playing an important role in Komban said that his first film was with Suriya's Nandha and now Komban is his 100th film as an actor and interestingly it has happened with Suriya's brother Karthi.

GV Prakash who has composed the songs said “ Today, my film Darling is celebrating its 50th day which was distributed by Studio Green and now they have launched their new music label with my album and I hope it turn out to be a successful venture”.

GV Prakash said that for Komban he has used lively instruments to make sure that the village music sounds different than normal Tamil film songs and they have roped in two folk lyricists for it.

Earlier a brand new trailer and one song were shown at the function and the visuals are promising.Studio Green is planning to release Komban on March 27 in more than 400 screens across Tamil Nadu.

Lakshmi Menon missing at Komban audio & press meet?

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdflM2gdjfahe_small.jpg&hash=608b68558be1d9f6b88b0a805986fe98b3340b44)

Komban's leading lady Lakshmi Menon was not present at the press meet/ audio launch of the film which has happened at Chennai.

When asked Director Muthiah said "Lakshmi Menon is busy with her higher secondary examinations and hence we didn't disturb her".

Speaking about the on-screen chemistry in Komban, Karthi said " I couldn't think any other heroine in Lakshmi Menon's role as she has perfectly suited for the particular characterization".

Karthi says " The romantic portions in Komban will be different because the director has showcased the post-marriage love sequences in the film".

"There are few scenes which reminded by real life experience, for example in a particular scene, I make fun of the new dress bought by Raj kiran and  I have passed such fun comments on my real life father-in-law as well" confessed Karthi at the press meet.

Komban audio review

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdflMAhbejjib_small.jpg&hash=bf6ed9b47b42e69201059083c2457ce4e3be6865)

Cast: Karthi,Lakshmi Menon,Rajkiran,Kovai Sarala
Music: GV Prakash
Direction: Muthaiah
‘Komban’ marks the return of Karthi-GV Prakash combo after ‘Saguni’. This album also marks GV Prakash’s return to folk domain. Let us see what the album has got in store for us:

Kambikara Vetti
Singers: VM Mahalingam,Ananthu
The album opens up with a template ‘thiruvizha’ track which has a pretty outdated tune. The singers try their best to lift the spirits of the song but in vain. The tune falls flat & fails to grab listener’s attention as it would have liked to. Might get better with visuals.

Appappa
Singers: GV Prakash Kumar & Shreya Ghoshal
‘Appappa’ is the second best track of the album! GV Prakash plays to his strengths and delivers a soothing melody. The tune has a ‘heard before’ feel to it but is still very impressive. Shreya Ghoshal is at her very best alongside GV’s vocals. A nice, soothing listen!

Karuppu Nerathazhagi
Singers: Velmurugan & Maalavika Sundar
The best track of the album! GV Prakash is in full flow in ‘Karuppu Nerathazhagi’ delivering an instantly catchy and peppy tune. Though the addition of Velmurugan adds the dejavu of ‘Otha Sollala’, this song still stands out as the album’s best number thanks to a foot tapping tune.

Mella Valanjadhu
Singers: Madhu Balakrishnan
‘Mella Valanjadhu’ fills up the pathos quotient of the album. This track which is lyrically driven has a very mundane mood and Madhu Balakrishnan sings it with ease. Although the track is heavily situation oriented, it still works.

A Celebration – Komban Theme
A template folk instrumental sums up as the theme music for the movie laded with heavy percussions and typical arrangements. Might get featured as the background score. Passable listen!

After a very impressive ‘Darling’ & a disappointing ‘Pencil’, GV Prakash bounces back with ‘Komban’ where the composer returns to his ‘Aadukalam’ territory. Although couple of tracks don’t work to a great deal, the composer brings out his best in tracks like ‘Karuppu’ & ’Appappa’.

Picks from the album: Karuppi Nerathazhagi,Appappa

'Virumand'i fate for 'Komban'?

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpdfqeteaegcfc_small.jpg&hash=3356a0f8d51323fe65644ec98aa83bfc865c28ba)

Puthiya Tamilagam political party’s convener Krishnasamy is known for his controversial comments about Tamil films.

It was because of Krishnasamy’s comments; Kamal Haasan opted to change the title of his film from Sandiyar to Virumandi.

Now Krishnasamy has said that Karthi’s Komban is having extreme abusive language and the dialogues have glorified one community and insulted the other cast hence the censor board should make sure that such dialogues are not allowed for public screening.

In a recent media meet, Komban’s director Muthaiah has clarified that his film will depict the relationship between the protagonist (Karthi) and his father-in-law (Rajkiran) which is based on the real life happenings.

It's official producers Studio Green says Karthi’s Komban which was earlier schedules for March 27 has now been pushed to April 2. It will now clash with Udhayanidhi Stalin's Nanbenda for the big Easter weekend.

Though no official reason has been given by the producers, it is understood that since World Cup cricket finals is scheduled for March 29, it will eat into collections. There is a big buzz around world cup as India has won all the six matches in the qualifying round and may feature in the finals.

Produced by Studio Green, Komban also has Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran and many others to its star cast.  The film has music by GV Prakash Kumar and sources say that the film will be a rural mass entertainer.

'Komban' gets censored today, 'Valiyavan' gets U

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdflNhacdjcda_small.jpg&hash=c15d0aaf00d60516ad97ab049bce039a6e1cdaae)

Yesterday censor board officials will be watching both Jai’s Valiyavan and Karthi’s Komban at a preview theater in Chennai.

Directed by Saravanan of Engeyum Eppothum fame, the makers of Valiyavan has got a U certificate as the film is opening on March 27

Karthi’s Komban is directed by Muthiah and already the film is involved in a controversy that the content is glorifying particular community and insults the sentiment of the other, hence few political outfits are closely monitoring the censor process of the film.

Komban is slated for April 2nd release and Studio Green, the producers of the film is planning to release the film in nearly 360 screens across Tamil Nadu.

Karthi's 'Komban' in trouble, censor certificate pending!

Looks like Karthi's Komban is in trouble as the censor board is yet to certify the film and they want the producers to change many things including the title. We hear that the officials are reluctant to issue a 'U' certificate.

Earlier political outfits like Krishnasamy's Puthiya Tamilagam objected the release of Komban and he suspected that the director has glorified one community and degraded the other.

Krishnasamy also said that the censor board should not allow the abusive dialogues in Komban as it is not suitable for public screening

Despite the censor issues, the makers have officially announced the release date as April 2 which is legally wrong and  sources say that Studio Green might approach revising committee to get U certificate.

'Komban' mired in controversies!

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdflMAhbejjib_small.jpg&hash=bf6ed9b47b42e69201059083c2457ce4e3be6865)

Karthi’s Komban which has been mired in controversies has finally got a UA certificate from the censors. For the last one week the film has not been issued certificate as Puthiya Tamilagam  Dr. Krishnasamy MLA has been insisting that the film should be banned.

Dr Krishnasamy has alleged that the film “will create communal tension in southern Tamil Nadu, as the film highlights a particular caste and run downs another caste.” In a statement Dr.Krishnasamy said that the film “should be banned like Dam 999 in Tamil Nadu.”

Tamil activist Seeman has issued a strong statement supporting Karthi's Komban and condemned Puthiya Tamilagam party's Krishnasamy for using cinema for his own political ambition.

Seeman said " I'm ready to watch Komban along with Krishnasamy and if the film really degraded the scheduled community, I will join him in the protest but asking to ban on a movie before the release is unethical".

Seeman asked in his statement: "The literal meaning of Komban is big shot or someone who is on top, even the elephant's name in Kumki (2012 film) is Komban, does it mean that the elephant belongs to Thevar community?"

Seeman also condemned Krishnasamy for targeting big star movies to gain publicity. " Years ago Krishnasamy condemned Kamal Haasan's Sandiyar and the legendary actor changed the title as Virumandi but recently a small time actor's film got released with the same name (Sandiiyar) but to everyone's surprise there was no protest from Krishnasamy.”

Meanwhile a Madurai court asked the producers of the film to arrange a special screening of Komban to Dr.Krishnaswamy. The film is now gearing up for a big release on April 2. At the same time it is said CBFC is  yet to issue censor certificate to #Komban. A 10-member expert committee appointed by Madras HC will watch the movie tommorrow (March 31).

Komban Movie Review

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpebpyuebcifhg.jpg&hash=f3691aafcddd5798cb1870d6d4a97c21fe6b6bfd)

First thing first, Karthi's Komban doesn't glorify or degrade particular caste; instead the film is a routine mass masala entertainer with all the necessary commercial trappings and cliches which are considered to be the favorite of the masses (or B & c centres?)

Kombaya Pandian (Karthi) is a butcher by profession and he leads his life by virtues which is a kind of relief for us because after a long time we are shown a hero who doesn't booze, smoke and most importantly he doesn't sing  songs in bar or degrade the heroine. If anyone ill-treats women or cheats in business, Komban would certainly whack them for which he is celebrated by the Arasanadu village people.

At one point of time, Komban falls in love with Palani (Lakshmi Menon ) and her father Muthiah (Rajkiran) too agrees for the marriage. But somehow our hero does not like Muthaih. There is also another parallel track where the villains badly want to murder both Rajkiran and Karthi which comes as the major play in the second half of the movie which leads to a weak climax that looks more like a staged drama.

What really works in Komban is the milieu and the  customs and rituals followed in Ramanathapuram area of south Tamilnadu and the characterization of Karthi, Rajkiran and Kovai Sarala. The way Muthiah  character is portrayed and his interactions with Karthi are realistic. But there is hardly any chemistry between the lead pair.

On the downside, there are too many cliches with the characterizations of the villain gang spearheaded by Gundan Ramasamy (Super Subbarayan) and there is not even a single scene where the baddie beats our hero, every given time Komban turns victorious which in turn makes it a boring play. Similarly, the second half of the film is filled with predicatable twists.

Performance wise, Karthi is good and he carries the film on his shoulders. His sharp look and well toned physique add more punch to his character. Rajkiran seem to be the right choice in such roles, while Lakshmi Menon sleep-walks as though she is bored (like the audiences)  playing the same role she has done in half a dozen films. Kovai Sarala and Thambi Ramaiah come in handy to accelerate the film's pace with their funny one liners.

Velraj's cinematography has shown the rusty Ramanathapuram locales in different color tone and  GV Prakash's music and BGM are noteworthy with the Karupu Nirathalagi  being the pick of the lot. Sharp cuts of Praveen KL has helped the movie to maintain the pace.

Overall, Komban is a poor cousin of Paruthiveeran,  another rural mass entertainer with necessary ingredients to satisfy the masses.

Gnanavelraja clarifies on 'Komban', as it gets U/A

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpdflMAhbejjib_small.jpg&hash=bf6ed9b47b42e69201059083c2457ce4e3be6865)

Studio Green's Karthi starrer Komban has got U/A certificate from the censor board. As the movie has been mired with controversies, Komban's producer Gnanevelraja has come with a clarification statement.

Gnanavelraja says: "With many quality films to its credit, Studio Green is having good reputation among movie goers in Tamil Nadu but we are anguished by the controversies surrounding around our new film Komban which is slated for release on April 2".

The producer stresses: "Komban is not having any scenes or dialogues which glorify or degrade any community and we firmly say that the film depicts the ego clash between a man and his father-in-law".

He also said that there have been too many rumours regarding the movie and says it is just another commercial entertainer. Added Gnanavel: “Once the film gets released people will know that these are baseless rumors. Some people are trying to make mountains out of molehills.”

Meanwhile, the Madras High Court Bench constituted a 10-member committee headed by two retired judges of the court to watch the film in a private screening in Chennai on Tuesday and submit a report to the court on the claim that the movie had the potential to instigate caste clashes in southern districts.

Justices S. Tamilvanan and V.S. Ravi ordered that the committee’s report should be faxed by Tuesday evening since the court had to decide the issue expeditiously as the film is scheduled for release for Thursday. Apart from the two former judges, K. Ravirajapandian and A.C. Arumugaperumal Adityan, the committee would comprise the petitioner and three of his lawyers besides the film producer and three of his advocates.

Today two former judges, K. Ravirajapandian and A.C. Arumugaperumal Adityan, along with Krishnasamy and his lawyers watched Komban at the special screening arranged at Four Frames preview theater, Chennai.

According to sources, right from the beginning Krishnasamy created nuisance and alleged that the dialogues are inaudible and even asked the operator to rewind many scenes.

Irked retired judges walked out of the preview and now the big question is will they give a positive verdict for Komban which is slated for release on April 2.

It has to be noted that the Madras High Court has ordered the retired judges to fax their verdict by today evening.

If the information from the inside sources are true, Komban will be releasing tomorrow and not on April 2 as reported.

Theaters like Kamala and Albert have opened bookings for Komban on April 1 and this brave decision by the producers has grabbed everyone's attention.

This is considered to be a strong move by Studio Green as they have expressed their opposition against the political parties which tried to sabotage their film. When asked official sources from Studio Green refused to comment and they will make the official announcement only after 5 PM. press meet.

By this time, everyone would have known the news that Komban was mired in controversy as Krishnasamy alleged that the film has glorified one caste and degraded the other.
In yesterday's media interaction, Komban's producer Gnanavelraja said that the release date April 2 seems to the problem for Krishnasamy and other political outfits, this in turn stirred rumors that Udhayanidhi Stalin is behind the delay of Komban as his Nanbenda is also releasing on April 2.
Now in a video interview, Udhayanidhi has condemned people who are dragging his name on Komban delay. Udhay said, "While making films to glorify one particular caste, directors are degrading the other community which has caused many problems in the past. Kamal sir has faced similar issues in Thevar Magan and Virumandi, even Vijay's Thalaivaa has also faced the ban ".
The actor also said that Krishnasamy has wrote a letter against Komban on March 3  to the censor board officials and not after he got to know that the film is releasing on April 2 hence people should not drag his name into this issue. Further, Udhay also said that he has signed agreement with nearly 275 theaters for Nanbenda and Komban's delay or advancement is not going to do any good for him.
Udhay feels that people are using his name in Komban issue for mere publicity.
