Virumaandi’s connection in ‘Uthama Villain’

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftamilbase.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F03%2Futhamavillan.jpg&hash=af3c061746a3ed0ace4fbf1e43a510573c48e4fc)

When it comes to acknowleding talent and extracting the best from a person, Kamalhassan would stand tall. His eye for getting the best from his cast and crew makes a decent cut in the quality of his product. Abhirami who played a memorable ‘Annalakshmi’ in Virumaandi has lent her voice for, Pooja Kumar in, ‘Vishwaroopam 2′. Kamal wanted to carry the same form for ‘Uthama Villain’ too. One could see the same happens with, Ghibran, who is composing for three movies back to back for, Kamal.

Meantime, both ‘Uthama Villain’ and ‘Viswaroopam 2′ are progressing in breakneck speed and ‘Uthama Villain’ will hits the screen first.

Ramesh Aravind talks about 'Uttama Villain'

Ramesh Aravind who is directing Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain is done with the shoot of the movie and now is busy with the post-production.

Ramesh is highly satisfied with how the movie has turned out. He is very impressed with the commitment and dedication of Ulaga Nayagan. He says Kamal was very co-operative during the shoot.

He further added that Uttama Villain is not a comedy like a Pancha Thanthiram, but the movie is of different genre and it was made with lot of class. He also insists that it has a good comedy as well. The movie as a whole will be a new experience and will take Tamil Cinema to a different level.

He also says Kamal's performance is top class especially the climax scenes. Overall, Ramesh is very confident about Uttama Villain and promises a highly entertaining movie for the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti weekend.

Details about Dialgoue for ‘Uttama Villain’

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftamilbase.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F09%2Fkamal.jpg&hash=3446b96c7fa50267f8d9805f762301450854ed96)

Initially, it was believed that ace theatre personality cum dialogue writer Crazy Mohan will be joining hands with ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan after a long time for ‘Uttama Villain’ for penning the dialogues. However, it was ruled out at the early stages of shooting and it was made clear that Kamal Haasan himself will be penning the dialogues apart from the story and screenplay.

Perhaps to clarify things further, the film’s director Ramesh Aravind has on board confirmed that Kamal has penned the dialogues for the film. However, he has also said that Crazy Mohan has taken part in the discussion and his inputs were parts of the film. Ramesh justified Kamal’s decision to pen the dialogues himself, saying that the film involves a huge spectacle apart from the humor.

Having worked with the veteran star for quite a few months as a director and having completed the shoot of the film is as exciting as every film industry person would have been for having worked with the Padma Bhushan actor. He is equally in awe of Kamal’s dialogue writing skills. The film includes segments happening in the eight century and Ramesh says Kamal has written the dialogues for these portions in the style of ‘Sidhar Padalgal’ and the Tamil words he has used for them are unbelievable.

‘Uttama Villain’ reportedly stars Kamal Haasan in dual roles with a stellar cast of Pooja Kumar, Andrea, Parvathy, Parvathy Nair, Oorvashi, Jayaram, Nasser and many others. The film’s music has been scored Ghibran while the film has been produced by N.Lingusamy under Thirrupathi Brothers banner. The film is currently in post production stage.

Is 'Uttama Villain' getting postponed to 2015?

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fodfl9ghgijfsi_thumb.jpg&hash=b50d0574d4c8ec3c2cdb2df5dce7db944bcf2ff5)

Kamal Haasan’s  Uttama Villain with  Ramesh Aravind as director and produced by  Lingusamy’s Tirrupathi Brothers was supposed to be a Nov 7th – (Kamal’s Birthday) release.

But now there are no signs of an audio release anytime soon. It looks like Ramesh Aravind is still busy with the post production work and Music Dir. Ghibran with the BGM.

Producers Tirrupathi Brothers are trying to set their house in order as their previous release Anjaan didn’t exactly set the box office on fire.

With all these things going on, people who are closer to the team of Uttama Villain say the movie is likely to be postponed to early 2015.

Model addition to Kamal’s ‘Uttama Villain’

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftamilbase.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F10%2Fpaarvathynaiir.jpg&hash=a02de44f70743a0a72cad79d7ec240968a3a65b8)

Parvathy Nair, who was Ms Karnataka is to play a pivotal role in Kamal Haasan’s ‘Uttama Villain’. Sources say she will be playing the love of Kamal Haasan’s son in the film. When asked how she came to be a part of the film, Parvathy recounted a unique tale.

“My pictures were sent to the ‘Uttama Villain’ team by someone whom I didn’t know. I was shooting for an ad in the place where ‘Uttama Villain’ was also being filmed. Somebody phoned and called me for an audition. I was told by the ADs that many actresses had tried for my role. I was pleased to learn that I was chosen after Kamal Haasan saw many other artistes. To me, being selected for the role in itself is a great achievement. And I have heard that Kamal Haasan is choosy about his cast.” She met Gauthami thereafter to choose her outfits and, “That’s when I got to know that I made it. Everything still looks surreal,” added Parvathy Nair.

“While shooting, Kamal Haasan always explained the idea behind every scene. I had the liberty to perform in my own way and I could also improvise when I delivered dialogues. That space to explore mattered a lot to me,” she said, when asked about her experience on set.

‘Uthama Villain’ will release first – Kamalhassan

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftamilbase.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F11%2FUttama-Villain.jpg&hash=ff0eb71bc81f7c4e72d5a8b866f91bd7bfda3896)

In a recent interview to a TV channel, Kamal encountered the million dollar question, of three movies, ‘Uthama Villain’, ‘Papanasam’, & ‘Viswaroopam 2’ which one will hit the screens? Kamal replied stating, “Under all probabilities and as per my guess, it will be ‘Uthama Villain’ first followed by ‘Papanasam’. Because, both these movies are wrapped up, and there is about 5 percent of work is pending to the sequel of Viswaroopam.”

He adds that, even though ‘Papanasam’ is a remake of ‘Drishyam’ it will be a different experience for Tamil audience. ‘Papanasam’ is directed by, Jeethu Joseph, who scripted the original and the music is taken care of Ghibran. Gauthami will be seen after 16 long years and she is paired opposite to Kamal in this drama thriller.

'Uttama Villain' is humourous & emotional says Kamal

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fodfl9Bigegfsi_small.jpg&hash=ce0e1579e76c0d56eaeffcdec4c9d05870242616)

Kamal Haasan is done with the shoot of his next release, Uttama Villain.  Ramesh Aravind is busy with the post-production of the movie.

Recently, Kamal opened up about Uttama Villain and talked about his character and the movie. He said, “Uttama Villain is a movie which will be both emotional and humorous in the likes of Veteran actor Nagesh’s Server Sundaram, Neer Kumizhi etc”.

In fact, Kamal kept the title “Bitter Chocolate” for the movie first. Since English titles are not eligible for Entertainment Tax exemption, he changed the title to Uttama Villain. He says Villain is not an English word – more a word play on the Tamil word – Arrow – One who is an expert in Bow and Arrow.

Kamal also brings Theyyam from Kerala and has mixed with Villu Paatu – a Tamil tradition in the movie for the first time. Uttama Villain is expected to release early next year.

Kamal reveals ‘Uthama Villain’s plot

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftamilbase.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2014%2F09%2Futhamavillan_kamal.jpg&hash=5401549b8de0515a31403b8406e2a70b222151f2)

Kamal had celebrated his 60th birthday last week with his fans and involved himself in the Swach Bharat campaign to clean the Madambakkam lake. A popular weekly has met Ulaganayagan and questioned his strategy to be a part of multiple films at the same time and triggered what’s ‘Uthama Villain’ is all about?

“Uthama Villain will speak the life of a star and I have experimented a lot since the character is a well known territory to me. There’s a term called ‘Double Bill’ to describe two stories in a movie, and I could say ‘UV’ belongs to that genre. I have tried something close to Woody Allen’s ‘Crimes & Misdemeanors’, where the movie will show a trail and an ardent lover of films who tries his best to make a movie. ‘UV’ to feature similar stuff, where the viewer will get to see an emotional side and a comic portion at the same time in two different timelines,” – Says Kamal.

Kamal Haasan’s Uttama Villain trailer begins with a voice over of the protagonist uttering it in the classic Tamil ‘ En Uthirathin Vithai… En Uyir Vithaitha Sathai… Veroruvanai Pagavan enna Poruthudivena’ which tells us that the film might be based on father – son relationship, also there are chances that film might be based on the ‘intellectual property theft’ say a plagiarism in the film industry but as we all know that Kamal will have plenty of surprises in stores, we have to wait little longer to know the real plot of the film.

Earlier, when we contacted Ghibran to convey our wishes for the amazing background score, the composer said that he is really overwhelmed with the response. The audio rights of Uttama Villain are with Sony Music.

Kamal Haasan's Uttama Villain audio will be launched in a grand manner on March 1. Now we hear that the album will have 17 tracks including 7 songs, 7 original soundtrack (background score) and 3 Karaoke.

'Uttama Villain' audio rocks - Review

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpc2n9Gccgjbee.jpg&hash=08d771aef45b4a079ecdbdcdf7d92fd855e383f9)

Cast: Kamal Hassan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea, K Balachander, K Vishwanath, Jayaram, Nassar, Parvathy Menon, Parvathi Nair, Urvashi, MS Bhaskar
Music: Ghibran
Editing:Vijay Shankar
Cinematography: Shyam Dutt
Direction: Ramesh Aravind

‘Uttama Villain’ marks the first association of Ghibran with Kamal Hassan.  The movie which has a portion based on Theyyam is supposed to be musically driven and let us see how Ghibran has delivered in this biggie:

Love’aa Love’aa
Singers: Kamal Hassan, Sharanya Gopinath, Anitha, Nivas
Lyrics: Viveka
Instant Chartbuster! ‘Love’aa Love’aa’ has a zingy attribute about it that is gonna make this number a crowd favorite. The female lead by Sharanya is Shirley Bassey-esque with a perfectly westernized rendition.  Kamal’s rendition is nothing short of peppy. The best part of the song has to be the rocking synthesizer ridden first interlude and the techno gibberish ‘Uthama Villain’ chants. The bass of the track reminds us of Kamal’s dance numbers from ‘Indian’. Total winner!

Kaadhalaam Kadavul Mun
Singers: Padmalatha
Lyrics: Kamal Hassan
Ghibran bring his total Hindustani range to display with ‘Kaadhalaam Kadavul Mun’. This semi-devotional track has traces of Ghibran’s sufi numbers from ‘Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah’. Relying only on the female vocals by Padmalatha, this track is shouldered by the dynamic lyrics of Kamal and the chorus bits that accompany the keys. Typical Ghibran Track!

Uttaman Arimugam
Vocals: Subbu Arumugam, Kamal Hassan
Lyrics: Subbu Arumugam
Now the album steps into the ‘Villupaatu’ zone! ‘Uttaman Arimugam’ opens up with Ghibran employing kunnakol & other ‘koothu’ related instruments.  For starters, this is something that’s on the lines of the ‘Natukkoru’ track from ‘Anbe Sivam’. Kamal delivers a pulsating rendition with the tune hitting some really high pitched portions as it traverses. With Subbu Arumugam’s lyrics, the character establishment is done through this track.

Saagavaram
Vocals: Kamal Hassan, Yazin Nizar, Ranjith Iyappan, Ghibran
Lyrics: Kamal Hassan
‘Saagavaram’ is the second Villupaatu track in the album which comes across more of a soulful track than the other majestic ones in the album. The chorus portions that accompany Kamal’s vocals work wonders in inducing many goosebumpy moments. The chord shifts in the “Arinthu Erindhum” segment of the track takes the cake.

Iraniyan Naadagam
Vocals: Kamal Hassan, Rukmini Ashok Kumar
Lyrics: Kamal Hassan
With ‘Iraniyan Naadagam’, the album moves to more of an audio book doing away with the conventional movie tracks. The majestic voice of Kamal opens with lines from the trailer and it is quite a rarity in listening to the Prahaladha’s story from Iraniyan’s perspective. Pretty sure that ‘MruthyunJayaho’ is gonna reverberate even after the song gets over. The grandeur in the symphonic arrangements is definitely there to see. The mood of the track shifts as soon as Narasimha emerges and instruments like kombu, chendai which are totally rare is used extensively. Terrific is the word!

Mutharasan Kadhai
Vocals: Kamal Hassan, Yazin Nizar, Ranjith Iyappan, Padmalatha
Written by Kamal Hassan
‘Mutharasan Kadhai’ covers one episode of the movie which needs to be experienced visually. The song has a touch of folk ground to it in addition to the several mood shifts throughout the song. The air blown fillers coupled with extensive arrangements ups the ante of the track which is totally going to get elevated when watched with the visuals.

Uttaman Kadhai
Vocals: Kamal Hassan, MS Bhaskar, Yazin Nizar, Ranjith Iyappan
Written by Kamal Hassan
Absolutely stunning track! ‘Uttaman Kadhai’ looks like the core of the movie where the story of Kamal’s character is narrated by Kamal himself.  Ghibran has conjured up a terrific amalgamation of spectacular arrangement of strings, keys & percussion. The fusion of symphony with folk has never been tried in contemporary Tamil music before & Ghibran-Kamal combination has pioneered in that genre with these tracks.

OST’s: The album also boasts of some of the background scores from the movie. Leading the pack is the ‘Uttama Villain Theme’ that has been the cynosure of the trailer & teasers so far. This theme music is a hot ringtone material and is certainly haunting with that eerie humming & terrific bass. The ‘Guru & Sishya’ theme music is the musical conveying of Kamal’s gratitude to KB dominated by piano & other key instruments. Ghibran delivers a total symphony overload with the ‘Father & Daughter’ theme music which plays out to his strengths. The ‘Uttaman & Karpagavalli’ theme has a fable aura to it by clubbing lots of chime arrangements to the symphony. The best among the lot – the ‘Father & Son’ theme has a fabulous female humming and a cello lead (surprising for a track that dwells on Father-Son bonding) & is touted to play a huge part in the scenes involving the aforementioned bonding. ‘Letter From & To Yamini’ is a slightly rehashed instrumental of the ‘Kadhellam Kadavul Mun’ track with parallel display of both strings & piano. A haunting female humming kicks in at the end of the track leaving a lasting impression. Ghibran ends the album with ‘Dr. Arpana’ – another bond establishment musical piece. The album also features the karoke versions of three tracks (Kadhalaam Kadavul Mun, Iraniyan Nadagam & Saagavaram)

Our Take:   Ghibran has grown leaps and bounds with this album and has indeed delivered his career best. All the songs seem majestic with the arrangements being on par with the likes of James Horner, John Williams. The audience should definitely approach the album with an open mind and they ought to sink-in the fact that most of the Villupaatu & Theyyam tracks are totally visual oriented and the presence of Kamal is bound to elevate the songs to the next level visually. Ghibran hasn’t made any compromises with the setting of the album and has used the symphony capaciously (Unlike an album like ‘Kaaviya Thalaivan’ which compromised on the time period of the tunes to make it more commercially viable). If anyone has any problems in recognizing the effort that has gone into this album, they need to get their musical buds examined. ‘Uttama Villain’ is an album to be cherished by film buffs and is not for the typical frontbenchers.

'Uttama Villain' has a neat audio launch

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpdck6Adggiejg_small.jpg&hash=ed1d171704256477a6728a6fb1f030a60ab54233)

The audio launch of Ulaganayagan’s 'Uttama Villain' is easily one of the best organized events in Tamil cinema. Unlike the usual audio launches that start late, here the programme started rolling on time.  Everything was rehearsed and planned and at the end of it, the function turned out to be a memorable one for everyone who attended it. Following are the few interesting moments that happened at the audio launch…

A touching AV for late K Balachandar, followed by Kamal’s stunning arrival:

When the makers aired an AV of late K Balachander’s letter to Kamal Haasan, the entire crowd turned emotional. He praised his sishya (Kamal Haasan) by saying that Marconi invented Radio, Alexander Graham Bell invented telephone similarly as a director he found the talent inside Kamal Haasan and explored it.

Soon after the AV, Kamal made his stunning entry and the entire stadium gave him a standing ovation and the actor was deeply moved.

If KB didn't introduce me, I wouldn't have been the same Kamal Haasan…

During his speech Kamal said “K Balachander introduced many actors including me and my brother Rajinikanth. The actor said “If KB sir didn't introduce me; I wouldn’t have been the same Kamal Haasan”.

Kamal added “My life would have been different and the game would have ended long ago but Rajinkanth’s case is different, he would have attained the same stardom through films like Murattu Kaalai”.

Kamal promised that he will continue K Balachander's work in Tamil cinema and pass on his experience to future generation.

Nassar’s touching story

When Kamal’s close friend and favorite actor Nassar arrived on stage, the event became even more emotional as he described about his son’s accident which happened during the shooting of Uttama Villain and ironically the accident took place near to the film’s set.

Nassar said “I have done nearly 500 films but Uttama Villain will stay in my heart forever as the whole journey was an emotional experience”.

Nassar added “I couldn't undergo the pain of having my son at the hospital and thought of diverting my concentration  but Kamal Haasan insisted me to take a break and even dismantled the sets where my portions used to be shot”.

“When I told him that I should start acting to forget the pain, Kamal immediately agreed. In one day, he erected the same set again. Kamal would’ve lost a lot of money but still he supported me in my tough times” said Nassar.

Nassar also said that Kamal insisted him to not see the gory accident picture of his son’s vehicle as it would have given him more pain and Nassar thanked Kamal for that.

When Nassar’s son was admitted at the hospital, the actor was stuck in traffic jam and it was Kamal who continuously updated everything that happened at the hospital and Naasar was deeply moved by Kamal’s humanity.

When Kamal found Urvashi’s pregnancy

When Kamal approached Urvashi for Uttama Villain, the actress was pregnant but she did not want to disclose out of fear that she might lose the opportunity to act with him. Later, during one of the shooting day Kamal himself asked whether she is pregnant and Urvashi was literally stunned.

Urvashi thanked Kamal and Gauthami as they looked after her with great care.

When Kamal and Parvathy sung Kanmani Anbodu

The highlight of the function was Parthiepan who hosted the show. And when he asked Parvathy Menon to sing a song as girls from Kerala are known for their good voice, she obliged. Though Parvathy didn't know the lyrics, she sung the vintage ‘Kanmani Anbodu..’ number and an excited Kamal joined her with his typical humming.

The entire crowd had a good grin on witnessing the adorable moment.

How Ghibran came on board

Kamal revealed that he listened to Vaagai Sooda Vaa songs and impressed by Ghibran’s brilliant work.Later Kamal roped him for Vishwaroopam-2 and then they got a excellent rapport that he signed him for Uttama Villain as well.

In his speech Ghibran said “ Without Kamal Haasan, this ambitious score wouldn't been possible and I really don’t know at what stage of my life I could have composed such a dream music"..

Ghibran also added “Kamal’s extra-ordinary music sense helped him in giving good music and just like a college student, I tried my best to impress a professor like Kamal Haasan”.

I would've got the same freedom only in Rajkamal films – Kamal Haasan on Thirrupathi brothers

Speaking about Thirrupathi brothers, Kamal said “ Lingusamy and his brothers gave me full freedom. Despite my insistence, they never asked me to show the rushes and still waiting to see the full edited version”.

Kamal added “I could have got such unconditional freedom only in my own production house Rajkamal films, guess I got another home banner through Thirrupathi brothers”.

An innovative way of launching audio

Kamal refused to go for traditional way of launching the audio by unveiling the CD instead the team has created a mobile app and uploaded the audio file successfully.

When Lingusamy insisted Kamal that an audio launch should have both giver and receiver, Kamal immediately called Shruthi Haasan and sent the audio file through Face time technology which proved that Kamal is way ahead than everyone one in Kollywood.

The making of Uttama Villain videos, a brand new trailer and visuals of three songs were shown.

In the second trailer of Uttama Villain, there is a shot in which music composer Ghibran, Villu Paatu artist Rama Subu and lyricist Snehan were seen.

Mean time, the audio of Uttama Villain has been well received by music aficionados and they are heaping praise on Ghibran's hard work in delivering an out of the box album and also Kamal for the wonderful lyrics.

Idham Porul Eval is touted to be a typical Seenu Ramasamy film which has Vijay Sethupathi and Vishnu Vishal in the lead roles.

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpdypgqfhaedbi_small.jpg&hash=f2c0bd5787ed17482c785be65f2ed94e25a6b051)

Today, Monday (March 24), Kamal Haasan met the media for the promotions of his upcoming film Uttama Villain.

Addressing the media, Ulaganayagan said that Uttama Villain is a film that does not have gravity defying stunts or violence as it doesn't demand such commercial elements.

Kamal recalled that he first approached K Balachander after Thevar Magan shooting and it is for a project called Pithamagan which is based on three protagonists Kamal Haasan, Sivaji Ganesan and K Balachander but the legendary director turned down the offer.

When Kamal Haasan approached K Balachander for Uttama Villain, the ace director again told him a reason that what if he passed away in the middle of the shoot but Kamal told him that he would change the script and got K Balachander's nod.

Following are the excerpts from the media meet...

On 'Vishwaroopam 2' delay
On Vishwaroopam2 's delay Kamal Haasan has said that release date of the film is entirely depends on Aascar Ravichandran. Uttama Villain is releasing before Vishwaroopam 2 because Ravichandran is delaying the film, if the film gets delayed further Kamal would start a new project.

Kamal says he is not having any difference of opinion with Aascar Ravichandran and he says the producer is also not having any financial shortcomings to delay the project.

On Marudhanayagam
On his ambitious project Marudhanayagam, Kamal has said that many of his friends want to produce the project but the film is universal which has to be shot in three different languages, French, English  and Tamil hence the film will start at the right time.

Three projects with Ghibran
I loved Ghibran's earlier works and roped him for Vishwaroopam 2, and we had a great rapport and he  was roped in for Uttama Villain. For Papanasam the producers insisted that be their music composer.

Claiming losses is unethical
Kamal Haasan has said claiming losses in film business is unethical, "My only fear is that what if audience starts claiming refund for a poorly made film?  I'm sure many of our films are not satisfying our audiences" said Kamal Haasan.

Shutting down film industry won't curb piracy
When asked about producers council's decision on shutting the film industry so that pirates will run away from the business, Kamal said pirates have many business and they are not only dependent on films. "When you restart the shooting, they will bounce back but artists like me only know cinema and it is my business" said Ulaganayagan at the press meet.

Regulating films is good but....
Kamal said regulating the releases is a welcome change in Kollywood and it is also being followed in Bollywood but you can't restrict big films' releases alone, people have to see the larger picture.

Director Ramesh Aravind speaks on 'Uttama Villain'

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpe2q9Sdehdgdc.jpg&hash=b18ee26bc18819f407e6bfcb1cd8c63eb4734b66)

Just imagine this—you are a fan of an actor and he is your inspiration to get into films, later you share screen space with him and become good friends. Years after, you are getting a chance to direct a script written by him and icing on the cake is that he is playing the lead role in it. Well, we are talking about Ramesh Aravind— who is on cloud nine as his most ambitious project Uttama Villain starring the one and only Kamal Haasan is all set to be released on May 1.
Here a brief chat with the director. Excerpts…

You acted with Kamal Haasan in Sathi Leelavathi… later you directed him in the Kannada version Rama Shama Bhama and now Uttama Villain. Tell us about your friendship…
Actually my relationship with Kamal sir started as a co-actor. When you do a film, you chat with the other actors on the sets and then you find people who are alike, who have same interest. Though you meet 60 actors in a film, some relationships continue beyond films.

Like the famous saying ‘Birds of a feather flock together’, we then collaborated in my first Kannada directorial in which Kamal sir acted and it was a big hit there. Now my first Tamil-Telugu directorial debut is Uttama Villain which is again with Kamal sir. So it’s been a rewarding friendship!

We are all amazed by Kamal Haasan’s detailed portrayal, there will be many underlying message in one scene and the great thing is it will be there in the visual format, though camera angles and coloring. Can we expect the same in Uttama Villain?
After seeing the trailer, people talk about the spectacle, grandeur in making and eye-catchy visuals.  Beyond all these things, what I personally liked about Uttama Villain or what you will like later is that it is a very heartwarming story.

When you go back home, you might ask yourself ‘Is this is the right way to lead your life?’ I think, that’s the best part of the movie.

Do you think, Uttama Villain is a rehearsal to Kamal Haasan on what he actually wants to make after 10 years like the great master Clint Eastwood? Because the trailer indicates that the film has zero heroism and no violence.
No comparisons! Clint Eastwood is a man who did cow boy kind of films and all of a sudden he directed some wonderful film like Million Dollar Baby, the kind of films he directed and the kind of films he acted are completely different but that happens to all of us. As an actor, you have some limitations but as a director you can do certain things which you couldn’t do as an actor, that’s what happened to me in Uttama Villain.

Coming to Kamal sir, he is not having any such limitations as he can do any role but the truth is that at different age, different kind of films will excite you. A love story which excited you at the age of twenty five might not excite you when you are forty, you want to say deeper things in your life and you have a lot of questions which might have probably induced the writer Kamal Haasan in Uttama Villain.

Kamal would have probably incorporated some real life problems what he has faced but definitely not an auto-biographical. In Uttama Villain, Kamal plays to his real-life age and he has a daughter, he has a son and their emotional bond in one side whereas you can also the typical entertainer Kamal Haasan in the other side.

So Uttama Villain is a drama?
Yes, it will begin as a family drama but also has a musical-folklore in it.

But these days our audiences have started liking fast paced movies. What you want to tell them... What kind of movie they are about to see?
They are about to see a heart touching film which is technically well made, which is also a huge spectacle, which is also a musical folklore but above all as an audience they are going to see a well narrated story.

So get ready for the story which is well told!

Is the 8th century portion in the film is a fantasy?
Yes, you are right!

The connecting point between the 8th century and the present portion..
That part has been done very smartly and I don’t want to leak it now. The transition is not only going to be in visuals or color tones alone but there is an emotional transition as well, so altogether it’s wonderful to watch it on screen.

Kamal has said that people have started calling every film as musical but Uttama Villain is indeed the real musical film. So tell us about Ghibran…
True,  Uttama Villain is  indeed a musical and about Ghibran, if somebody listen to the film’s music and then watch it along with the visuals, they might probably expect some seasoned music director who is in his late fifties. In reality Ghibran has done just done four films but the talent he has got is unbelievable.

Tell us about your experience of directing an actor like Kamal Haasan…
I think, it’s an absolute delight for any director to watch Kamal Haasan perform. I wish every director gets an actor like Kamal Haasan, the way he emotes, the way he carries the film on his shoulders and the commitment he put is unparalleled.
I’m sure every director secretly wishes to have an actor like Kamal Haasan in their film. At the end of the day, a director’s story could be well communicated only through an actor and in that case Kamal Haasan has reduced half of my job!

About the heroines…
Parvathy Menon – She has done a tremendous job and once the film gets released, I’m sure she will be the talk of the town
Pooja Kumar – She is a complete professional and  rehearse everything well before the shoot.
Andrea – I think she is very natural and that helps in her character in the film. In Uttama Villain, her character is very complex and she carried out it in a dignified fashion.
Urvashi – She is playing Kamal sir’s wife in the film. In Uttama Villain, here is a scene at nursing home and I would say any aspiring actress should go and watch her performance in that particular scene to learn how a good acting should be…

K Balachander has said many good things about both you and Kamal in the making video. He seemed to be impressed with the last shot to first shot shooting style of yours?
Actually, that strategy is very normal now as many people are doing it but what was fascinating is that he said ‘How the though process of me and Kamal sir are the same?’ We told him, sir we came from your school so what’s the big surprise?

Uttama Villain Movie Review

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpfbotFgcajchb.jpg&hash=97163f59a4ddf026d53e3da1183493eea001b569)

Director: Ramesh Aravind
Cast: Kamal Haasan,Urvasi,Pooja Kumar,Andrea,

First things first. We got the privilege of watching the uncut 172.50 minutes version of Kamal Haasan's ambitious film Uttama Villain and to be honest, the man stuns you with an extraordinary performance.  At this running time, it's no surprise that the film feels inordinately long and  has its own indulgent moments but on the whole,  it is a courageous film that  breaks away from being predictable, is gripping and emotional with few funny moments thrown in.

The sheer thrill of watching a film and not knowing what will happen next is one of the great pleasures offered by director Ramesh Aravind. Manoranjan ( Kamal Haasan) is a superstar with arrogance, insecurities and vices. People close to him are his Man Friday cum manager Chokkalingam, father in law Poornachandra Rao (K Viswanath) who produces his films, wife Varalakshmi (Urvasi) and his doctor Arpana (Andrea).

One day he suddenly decides to return the advance taken from a producer and instead do a comedy film with his mentor and guru Margadarsi (K Balachandar). This is big news that comes as a shock to everyone including his family and manager. But Manoranjan has a reason and how he goes about it forms the rest of the story.

An ensemble of fine actors is assembled to breathe life into the film's plot, and each is integral in their own way, despite the length of their parts. Andrea exudes confidence displaying range of emotion as Arpana, Pooja Kumar is adequate, Bhaskar is terrific as manager Chokku, Nasar is over-the-top as Mutharasan and in a small role with minimal dialogues Parvathi does a neat job.

We get a flesh-and-blood star wife in Varalakshmi played brilliantly by Urvasi.  Watch her in that hospital scene as she blurts out her frustrations and insecurities of being the wife of a superstar. Kamal Haasan is riveting, and he sinks his teeth into the role of a superstar. Late veteran director K Balachandar in his last film has a very apt role.

Ghibran's songs and background score is a major plus for the movie. On the whole, its shortcomings notwithstanding, Uttama Villain is a good example of an entertaining commercial film that didn't need to be lazy or senseless.

Uttama Villain-The battle between 'fantasy' and harsh 'reality'

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2FpcznPofehhbgc_small.jpg&hash=18ad1c893e5c69d02655169267e04425b9e89c63)

The title Uttama Villain (Uttaman- Good Samaritan, Villain – Baddie) itself is an amusing choice, rarely do we come across such contrasting words coined into a title and to those who don’t know—Kamal initially started the film with a working title—Bitter Chocolate which is again a coin of words with two contrasting qualities.

Not just the title, the entire film and its screenplay has been written in such a way that the transitions between the present portions of the Superstar Manoranjan who is battling with his life is conveyed. The make-believe ‘Mrithyunjayan’ Uttaman who cleverly or luckily escapes from all forms of deaths –Snake bite, stick blows, Tiger, Crocodiles, king’s sword and the nails of the disguised Narasiman in the climax are cleverly fabricated in a screenplay that has minute detailing with emotional transitions between these two worlds!

One such example – Aparna (Andrea) who plays as the dignified woman who falls for the married Manoranjan says she cares for his wife Varalaskshmi (Urvashi)who is her patient but she too wants a respectful life—Aparna asks the other two men, a doctor friend and the driver to keep the secret and then both Mano and Arpana hug each other—may be they moved to a ‘love’ state , cut to the next shot—we are shown ‘Kadhalam’ song with Pooja Kumar which sums up what has happened in the previous scene. These kinds of transitions were present throughout the movie.

In another scene Uttaman is kicked into the river with his hands and legs  folded, there is no way he could escape but a fisherman pulls him out with a net and there he is alive, now the film’s director K Balchander appears and ask the crane to pull over, here comes the Manoranjan Kamal who  is bleeding from his nose which indicates that he is slowly dying and the camera moves to a freshly caught fish which is about to die—such symbolic representations prove that this film is not your regular commercial cinema with eye candy songs and racy fight sequences—it demands all your attention!

Another wonderful shot in the film is when Manoranjan asks his biological daughter Manonmani (Parvathy Menon) to read the original letter which he had wrote to her mother Yamini. As Parvathy reads the letter, she slowly gets to know the truth that his father actually loved her mom so much and he is not the cruel person as she  thinks—in a symbolic representation Kamal removes his Theeyam make-up and now his clear innocent face appears in front of her daughter
(Wow, this particular scene was so much endearing that it will inspire many future filmmakers to conceive such poignant shots)

In the next shot, Kamal’s son Manohar asks whether Manonmani wants a hug as she is emotionally moved and she nods with her moist eyes—there comes Manohar’s girl friend Parvathy who does not believe that both Manohar and Manonmani are actual siblings. When Manohar asks his father to reveal the truth, he mischievously moves out of the room and When Jayaram (step dad of Manonmani) asks him what’s this all about—Kamal says ‘go inside and watch the fun’.

Apparently Kamal sees the whole site of Jayaram, Manonmani and Manohar through a glass window with a satisfying smile – there goes the dialogue “En Uthirathin Vithai… En Uyir Vithaitha Sathai… Veroruvanai Pagavan enna Poruthudivena” which conveys the meaning “ She is my daughter, she came from me, how on earth I would allow to call someone like you as her father” (Earlier in a scene, Parvathy tells Jayaram is her real father and not Kamal, as she always thought him as an opportunist who ran away from her mother).

The same phrase ‘En Uthirathin Vithai’ also comes as the opening line in the Iraniyan song which is about the demon Iraniyan who doesn’t want his son Prahalnathan to call Vishnu as lord.
Even the characterizations in the present and fantasy portions have some common factors, for example – in reality Kamal’s manager Chokku(MS Baskar) betrays him by not sending his letter to Yamini and also hides Yamini’s letter from him but in fantasy Uttaman or Cheran Senguttavan’s spy is very loyal to him that he keeps the secret until the climax where he says – “Engal Raja dhaan Uttaman aga nadithu ungal Mannaney kondrar”.

The screenplay writer Kamal Haasan maintained the logic in the fantasy portions as well—In a scene when the minister Gnanasampantham yells at the spy that whether his king is actually helping them and Uttaman immediately interferes ‘Rajavidam Amachair ippadi kettal enna solvathu enna ketu vanthrika vendama?’ and the spy humbly look down and tells him ‘Mannaridam naan ivalavu pesiyathey athigam’ –this is a lead for us to understand that Uttaman is the actual king.

The climax of Uttama Villain also ends up with the battle between the fantasy and harsh reality—in real life Kamal(Manoranjan) undergoes an operation to escape from brain tumor but he ends up dying. In fantasy, Nassar (Mutharasan) wants Narasiman’s role which was actually planned for Uttaman and he even placed the poisonous nails for the character, later they (Uttaman and Princess Pooja Kumar) throw honey bees at the king and when he starts scratching his own skin, he dies thus Uttaman’s ‘silly yet clever operation’ actually works out  in the fantasy world.

But in the last shot, both Uttaman and Villain ( Manoranjan)—in fact they have amalgamated into one as the dream film is released now and as an artist both have truly become ‘Mrithyunjayan(s)’, they are immortal through the applause of the audiences

Financial issues continue to plague 'Uttama Villain'

The financial issues between Eros and Thirrupathy Brothers continue to plague Uttama Villain, even after release. It looks like the financial issues between Eros and Thirrupathi brothers are yet to be sorted out.

Sources say that for the past two days, the payment for Eros has been paid on daily basis and they have issued the KDM (Key Delivery Message) every morning based on the settlement.

Today (May 7) morning, Eros stopped sending KDM and the morning shows got delayed in many theatres. Later after a temporary truce  EROS has issued the license but theatre owners are mighty pissed off as the delay is causing tension.

Most theatres outside of Tamil Nadu may not continue with the film in its second week, even though collections are ok. They feel it is a waste of time to run after KDM, just before the show starts.

PC Sreeram all in awe of 'Uttama Villain'

(https://friendstamilchat.in/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fstatic.sify.com%2Fcms%2Fimage%2Fpfik0vgbjjbfi.jpg&hash=b07e41cb81c18dd1b8149e93b42c9f40629f87a8)

PC Sreeram and Kamal Haasan share a great rapport right from Nayagan days. The duo also worked together in films like Apporva Sagothargal, Thevar Magan and in fact PC Sreeram directed Kamal Haasan’s widely acclaimed Kuruthipunal which was India’s official entry to academy awards under the Best Foreign Language film category.

PC Sreeram has watched Kamal Haasan’s recent release Uttama Villain and he is in complete awe of the film.

The cinematographer posted in his Twitter page “#Uttamavillain. It was an experience watching this saga. Watching it and not dissecting itself shows how much it's engrossing”.

PC Sreeram also said “Kamala Haasan stands out and his performance is mesmerizing .Experiencing it is the only way to appreciate or criticize”.
